- A few weeks ago, this little gadget from Wish popped up in my Facebook news feed. It caught my attention so I posted a screenshot up on my TH-cam community page with a challenge to reach 500 likes and I would buy one, along with an Xbox One Controller to put it to the test.
You guys delivered, and the goods arrived today, so lets put it to the test in iRacing and Project Cars 2 to see whether these things are actually any good!

Surprise surprise, it can't compete with a full-motion sim rig :D
In all fairness, this test is a bit like a dude who normally drives a Ferrari trying out a Morris Marina and declaring the Ferrari to be the superior car around a track...who would've thought!
The comparison should be exclusively with the basic joypad setup...and it does look like this contraption kinda mitigates one of the biggest issues, steering sensitivity; As a matter of fact, in the video is clear that it's not the steering that you have most issues with on the pad, it's the braking due to the extremely short throw of the triggers.
Obviously the main point is that it broke after a short while, which is a big one...but the basic idea is actually quite good - a mechanism that extends the range of motions of the little dinky thumbsticks which allow little to no precision - not just for driving games but in general. If someone was to modify this to be sturdier, while keeping the price down, it could be a funny little gadget to make a few 8-years-old "sim drivers" happy - or an amusing project for someone with access to a 3D printer.

Best thing to do when shifting on a controller is use R1 and L1 it's much more intuitive.I used to shift with the buttons but i scratched that over time and just used the top buttons and it improved my times when i race on a controller.
I think that gadget is meant more as an assist in arcade like games such as forza horizon or the crew, where an actual steering wheel don't work better than the joystick
Bullshit because I play Forza Horizon with a G920 and it works just fine

With just the pad, hold the left joystick up the whole time and turn by rotating it left and right and then manually rotating it back to up and center for the straights. It's much smoother than just letting it sit in the center and turning by flicking left/right and then letting it return to center on the straights on its own. Kind of complicated to try and explain through text.
yea thats how its supposed to be done...but this addon doesnt push the left stick up....

There was one handy capped guy who raced with a controller. He was just as fast as anyone else but he was nicknamed Twitchy because his car would twitch due to the controller inputs

ali bell lol... doing that right now.. mine hits the right stick tho making the camera turn backwards and then if I’m using my left thumb only while switching gears it hits the arm and causes me to stop turning. I’m thinking the 3D printed ones would be better.
im so sad this didnt turn out to be a hidden gem, like its from wish expectations where low, but the hope was so very high
Haha. I think you could learn to be fast with it in simcade titles. It definitely smooths our the inputs significantly. But yeah not when it breaks in the first 12 seconds of use. Lol
@@boostedmedia I wish there was a budget wheel for Xbox and PC that was like really cheap but good. I'm currently on a Hori for my potato pc and whilst it's good, it would be better if I could make it work on Xbox too. Imagine a new GT-Sport style forza game releasing and then the new xbox shipping with that and a cheap non-ffb wheel, it would help a lot of people move over.

I actually played iRacing for a couple of months with an Xbox controller. I was able to achieve a several 2nd place finishes on both oval and road courses in the rookie class. Using one is doable, but less than ideal. I found that hardest part of using the controller was holding a straight line on large ovals. The backstretch at Charlotte was tricky and anywhere at Daytona was impossible.
2 years later but now that world of outlaws is back on console that’s the only problem I have… keeping the car straight on the back and front straights so I don’t lose time.. currently watching the video hopefully this will help out even if it’s just a little bit that’s all I need.. ain’t tryin to have a whole steering wheel and rig right now..😂😂 not enough room haha.
I feel if he put up shift and down shift as the lb and rb buttons than it would work better

I think OP said somewhere in this comments section that this thing works OK on simcade titles like Gran Turismo, Forza etc. so maybe give it a try

But it works better than the game pad alone. As you showed. So it is a good product. It broke as you used one thumb only when changing gears. So if you use this as an automatic only from the start then it is very than the game pad. And it's only cheap. So good overall if you can't afford a wheel.
Nice video. having used a PS2 and PS3 Controller a lot back in the days i do think part of why it broke is, because you shifted with one thump, putting sideways pressure on it, No real surprise there. But on the controlability, i think the moton rig only made your movements worse, since you shook your whole body around, precise controlls with the fingers are much easier when you sitt completely still. Like if i had sitten on that rig, being thrown around, that would be rather more disturbing my presision. I mean they are two setups you mix that in reality aren't really are ment to be used together.
Would have liked to see you test it without the motionrig enabled, as it does look genuinely interesting.

I race pretty good on Gtsport with a controller....Im no world beater but faster and cleaner than plenty of guys on wheels but I cant imagine iRacing....totally different animal

I tried to play with a Logitech wireless controller....the experience compelled me to buy 2 wheel/pedals/shifter setups. 😂
I actually use this for NASCAR Heat 4. It's really good for turning left with a lil bit of practice. :D
To be fair....iracing support for pads is pretty much zero. Other sims handle them much better, raceroom for example

Yep. I reviewed both a while back. Don't bother with the damper. It makes basically 0 difference when you already have the performance kit.

I was pretty good with the controller before I got my steering wheel . Then one day i was having problem with my steering wheel and pedals not working so I went to use my game controller to race with and i was a complete embarrassment to my self . My stick shift and console navigation buttons is dead so i have to use game controller for some of the navigation controls other than that the buttons on my steering wheel , and paddle shifts and pedals are working .
I bought the Race Room controller, it seems like a decent idea - but mine was broken upon shipping, and on top of that, any marginal amount of pressure is def enough to crack it.
the main problem with a paddle is that the thumbstick looks to bridge the gap between analogue input (left and right) and 900° of rotation. this means, obviously, that the thumbstick fails to be as sensitive as it needs to be while also reaching full steering lock too quickly, due to the whole...not-being-able-to-rotate-a-bunch thing. this little contraption doesn't really...solve that problem.
if you're an individual who plays with a paddle, watch TRL Limitless' "is a controller OP on f1 2020"--the way he holds the thumbstick is perfect for how you want to control the car in-game

This is how I test overlay stuff when my Goblin's asleep. I don't want him waking up to get some water and seeing me in the full sim rig, and then he would want to stay up and play.

@@pentilex4338 Yeah.. Don't you have a Goblin? Mines 7 years old and autistic. If he wakes up and catches me with the full sim rig connected to the computer, he will demand to stay up and drive too. So I do all my testing of overlays and paints with a dodgy gamepad. All I need to do is drive out of the pits . And sometimes that in itself if hard.

test a gun type RC controller next! I personally have made that one using my 3d printer albeit that one is a lot sturdier and a friend has it now and is quite smooth with rfactor.

Except better: this one doesn't use the pressure sensitive buttons... (i have one.. it's great but the triggers are awfull!)
I've just beaten you and bought something even cheaper unless you already have the controller, a Microsoft Sidewinder Precision racing wheel with force feedback, it might be daft getting a 20+ year old steering wheel but it still looks better than that!
It's probably been 15 years since I last did any kind of sim racing and I want to see if I am going to enjoy it again and if so then I'll probably get a Fanatec dd wheel but for £35 the old sidewinder will do for a starter.

you know all you have to do is connect the controller via bluetooth to your xbox/ pc you didnt need to buy the dongle

raceroom had one comtroller with a mini wheel....too bad its dated and no support after windows 8....it looks like a ps2 controller....
The bearing is not supposed to jump you probably broke yours or got a defective product
