  • Here's a video I made for my buddy Mr David since he is selling the truck. This is the final run in the backwoods of Louisiana before the truck gets picked up. He still has a knack for the two sticks even after his recent brain surgery a little over 5 months ago.

    My dad was a trucker, we never got along, the dude scared the hell out of me, and he was not too fond of me, but one summer during my summer break and part of the fall, he needed some extra help, so he put me to work and taking me with him on his wood/log hauling trips.4:30 am - 6 or so every evening, 5 days a week, we never bonded, and that fall I moved out ...but my dad drove truck all through my youth and some into my adulthood, spring summer fall and the hell of those freezing cold Canadian winters. I realized how hard he worked and how lonely it got for him out on the road, before he took me along with him, he had a huge stuffed animal , and put it in the passenger seat and that was his company. The man worked long hard hours to put a roof over our heads, food on the table and clothes on the back. The older I get the more I reflect and think back to that time with dad in the truck, and the love and respect I now have for him and all he did.

    Thanks to everyone who has watched, enjoyed and commented on this video. Alex is my "Outlaw-in Training" we spend not nearly enough time playing with the old iron. I didn't know he was going to post this on youtube, but it has really made me proud of him and his dedication to trucks. I made my debut in the left seat at 14 years old, then my dad was sleeping behind me at the age of 15, in a L-190 International pulling a flatbed on a narrow 2-lane highway. I'm only 71 years old now, I had to sell the KW due to a stroke and a brain tumor. Now we are building a 1950 International LD-405 like the yellow one seen in the video. (that one went to Florida). The 50 has a Big-Cam I Cummins, 7&4. Hopefully it will be going soon, we will make a video!Keep on loving old trucks!David McNeill

      @Victorseafog 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      no power sterring. I drove a 1987 freighliner coe it had ac but no power steering I hit a bump my head hit the roof. It was harsh. My first ride over I-40 heading towards Kingman AZ I smoked the brakes with 44000 lb of Levis I can believe I didn't wreck. Jake brake nah no such thing .,
      There was no air ride. In 1989 my company gave me a single bunk COE witha set back axle it was a lot better and it had ps. In 1990 I got a new double wide bunk freightliner bus with a cat engine I thought I was in heaven. I got pulled over at brownstown TN DOT and the nasty prick made me lift up the bunk and there was the owners manual and he said what is that and I said I don't know looks like a owners manual he made me take it out. Big deal then he shut my truck down for some lose bolt on the trailer
      I want to add that I worked for this horseshit company called KLLM for 3 months it was with qualcom early computer. This company was the worst, well I worked for worse. KLLM in 1990 did not have fuel guage in the truck you had to check the fuel with a yard stick and KLLM didn't have a heater in the tank if you ran into frigid weather your fuel would jelly if you didn't buy something, KLLM made me sleep in a bunk house at the terminal in Jackson MS it was the worst company ... I made it 4 months. This is not the company I am talking about above hauling Levis from Waco to Henderson that was triplce crown.

    My Dad used to drive back in the day, Lord rest his soul. Nothing I loved more than when Dad would let me take quick hops with him when I was a kid. I have a special place in my heart for Kenworth. Before my Dad passed, all he wanted was for me to try my best be the first in our family to go to college. Dad, I found a good home for your Kenworth and it helped get me through college. Did one better for you, got my masters degree as well. I held on to a couple grand from the sale of your Kenworth over the years, invested it, and now that extra cash is going towards your Grandson's college fund. He's a good boy Dad, but you know that already. The sound of this ol' Kenworth brings back great memories. 👍

    I loved this- I will always remember traveling down old Hwy 99 before the interstates in my dad's KW Bullnose with the Cummins pulling a Brown trailer. My mom & I would ride with him once or twice during the summer for his weekly run from Seattle to Los Angeles hauling shingles & shakes. Like Mr. David said, no power steering, no air conditioning, and a great loud sounding engine. I sure was a lucky little girl. I used to sit on the cover between the seats and check out the road. Thank you so much for sharing this.

    My respect goes out to this film. I raise a cold beer-up high and tip my hat to Mr.David! He and his kind built this great country of ours, we must not-“forget”, and endeavor to walk with his kind. As always, thanks’ for taking the time to make this video!

    I remember watching smokey and the bandit, and Convoy, and enjoyed seeing that grunt power of diesel, heavy American Steel trucks rolling down the highway. Seeing your buddy Mr. David reminds me of the classic times of Truckin'. Thank you to yourself and Mr. David.

    My first memory of my dad driving was going to a cubing plant in Sacramento or Stockton don’t remember which now. It was a cab over Freightliner I think but was a twin stick. That was the most amazing thing I had ever seen. Watching him go through the gears, both hands shifting and his arm going through the steering wheel at the right moment, listening to the Jake slowing us down. Thank you for this memory.

    I love watching videos like this. They take me back to the 80's when I learned to drive our farm truck. We had an old Mack with twin sticks. Dad told me if I could drive that then I could drive anything. It took me a few tries to figure it out but I got it. I wouldn't wants to run it every day but it was a great learning experience. I'll take my Freightliner with just 1 stick for every day but I still see the old Mack every now n then hauling grain. I'd love to jump in and find out if he remembers me!

    Thank you for sharing that...it is forgotten too often of how far we have progressed in 100 years. my dad drove truck, like his dad, and being a driver myself...well damn. there are somethings you cant say with words...thank you for reminding everyone that heard the message... what message? That old way of doing things come to go, as did the way before. memories are made and connections are strengthened, and that togetherness is becoming endangered by our own fear of the inevitable. 2 years of caution has given what results today? the facts are available to all, but its easier to have it spoon fed to us by some stranger on tv. be with those you call family, and as this world breaks into the dawn of war again...memories are bulletproof and cant be taken. thank you for rattling my memories a little...and the chance to live to make more...

    I drove an R model mack from the 70s when I was a kid for a farmer up the road from me. it had two sticks and I remember you had the one next to you in low, than shifted the the far stick 1-2, than you slapped the first one in high and the far shifter back to 1 and than 2-3-4-5. and reverse was on the first stick so you had 5 speeds in reverse! fun times for a 16 year old kid and once you did it for a few straight weeks you could shift without looking at the levers lol.
