I am really looking at the z1000 and This video helped me decide for sure, yea if I had the cash for the higher end bikes, it would be worth it, but I can get a good deal on a z1000 then its the best way to go, and since I don't push the bike to the top end of the performance spectrum, I wouldn't notice the differences anyway. Z1000 for me.
Wow! Good job guys! This was so much better than the last video, looks like they learned how to speak with enthusiasm and the pace of the video is top notch!
Been following you guys for a while now, maybe its my softspot for streetfighters showing… but I loved this review. You guys really nailed it on being light hearted but opinionated. Keep up the great work.
Wow some nice teasing info here, cant wait to find out the back to back info off the score cards. As always nice honest reviews. The guy on the far right who said the Kawasaki was the best looking and most comfortable, but complained after two minutes of riding it is not helping your channel and reviews. We don't like him. Thanks for taking the time, much appreciated nice work guys
Good question. Yes it is definitely in this class. However, it is unchanged and already lost this shootout two years ago in its current form. All the bikes you see here are new for 2014 and the top-two will be challenging the reigning king of this class (Aprilia Tuono) in a three-way battle to settle what the very best naked street-fighter is for 2014.
I'm glad yall are putting both bikes up against the Tuono! (still wish it was all of the bikes, but oh well) My vote would be that the Tuono is still the best with the S1000RR in 2nd & the KTM 3rd.
clauschristoffero Exactly. Plus, Aprilia and KTM dealer support in the US just sucks. I'd rather take the Ducati or the BMW because I can't afford to wait for a month while my part comes in.
Good god how much did Kawasaki pay to get these guys to say that it was a good looking bike. Not only was it hit by the ugly stick the whole bloody ugly tree fell on it.
Where did they say they were riding at when they were filming this review? I had a hard time hearing John Burns say where they were at. Looks like an awesome place to ride!!!
Thank you guys for posting this comparison reviews...Its such an important info for both potential and non potential buyers. Also what about Triumph Street triple/Speed triple. How come that was forgotten ??
Good review. I think MOTORCYCLE, MOTOUSA and MCN should get the help of the general public when it comes to the more subjective things about the bike like look and feel. The average person isn't swayed by performance figures and brand reputation. Someone did that a while back and showed that people thought the MV agusta F4 was the best looking bike. A good test to see how a bike makes someone who doesn't ride "feel".
I have a local dealer that sells KTM and Kawasaki (and Benelli but that's off topic). I was torn between the KTM 1290 and the Kawa Z1000R, so i went in the back to have a chat with the repair and maintenance mechanics working there. They advised to buy the Kawa.
IF I had tons of money, which I don't, I would buy the KTM or BMW. Throw in the fact that you can buy a leftover 2014 Kawasaki for $9,000 then that is the winner. The Kawasaki performs excellent. The KTM is not worth the extra $7000 unless you have money to burn. None are worth the extra money unless you have money to burn. I have a Ninja 1000 and love it and with the money I save I can go buy a good used KTM dirt bike. A poor mans point of view.
Another good one guys. One thing I'm really curious about that I didn't notice being mentioned is engine vibes getting through the chassis and into the rider. The only one of these bikes I've gotten a chance to test ride myself was the Z1000, and the engine vibes permeating through every part of the bike and into my body had me ready to get right back off the bike within about 15-20 minutes. I just couldn't stand that grating and uncomfortable buzz going into my body like that. I realize that some people are more sensitive to this than others, but an uncomfortable level of engine vibes getting to the rider on the Z1000 is a very common complaint, so it's definitely not "just" me. Are any of these other bikes like Z1000 in that regard? The bike I'm most personally interested in is the BMW btw. How is that one when it comes to engine vibes and when compared to the Z1000 in that regard?
good question. That's an important factor for me as well. I go for long trips on my bike and I'm a bit "sensitive" to the vibration of the engine. So I too would like an answer to this question!
I find it perfectly fine, maybe because of my whole childhood and teenage years riding dirtbike, and my first street riding experiences on a harley... It's a motorbike. A fair sized engine right underneath your balls, what do you expect? I love my z, and it's the only bike that truly put a huge smile on my face just by seeing it for the first time. I haven't ridden any of these other bikes, maybe some day, but I'm perfectly happy on my z1000.
I just love the BMW. Alot of people don't like the looks of it, but from all the naked bikes, this one looks the most like a true streetfighter (Supersport without the wind shield and front plastics and stuff). Also has the same engine as the s1000rr, but with a little bit more power in the lower revs instead of the highs.
I have to agree... most general users know shit about damping probably setting up The S1000R incorrectly by continiously toggling in the Nintendo Tetris menu's. The WP monoshock rear damping from KTM is beyond öhlins quality and the front damping allows rebound and compression to be set at the telescopic fork however there is absolutely no need for it because you are smart... but KTM engineers are smarter. Nevertheless if they are going to compary to a Tuono Factory the KTM and BMW will lose... only just. But it's never a disgrace to be runner up to the Tuono Factory... which isn't a real naked anyway.
Probably left the track settings on the suspension of the KTM because your own weight needs a stiffer suspension from the bike. Would a lighter rider like the suspension so stiff on the street?
I strongly believe that the MV should be higher in this rank... But I agree that it can't win the category for some reasons but over all, should be in the top 3
Great review, fun to watch. I don't see what's so "sexy" about plastic timing belt covers on one side and coolant hoses on the other. And yeah the Kwak is too close in $ to the BMW but you can deal with Big 4 dealers not so much with the uppity BMW ones who need to special order a base bike.
I'm confused in s1000rr and 1000r. I have never had any expirience of 1000cc, I have driven from 150-600cc bike. S1000rr is just like a dream, I have been saving and hopefully this spring I will buy one of these. But if I go for 1000r, I will save some money for after market upgrades to it. I am a responsible driver and wont be street racing, its the thrilling passion of owning and taming a monster. I guess from past 6-8months, there's hardly any video left about hp4,1000r and 1000rr. Can we get a detailed comparission of these three or two? Its more about the feel rather than racing. I am gonna marry the one I'll buy, take it on a swing at any odd time and any location. Will just live with it.. I am Sorry for the long post but its hard as I dont know what do I get in both the 1000cc bikes.
having ridden them both plenty i can tell you a few things. If you are going to be commuting and joy riding around town, the 1000r is the way to go. The RR is much more geared for the higher RPM, you will rarely see what the bike has to offer without blowing over the speed limit by 30+. And it just doesnt "feel" right in the twisty roads when you have the new explosion of other high powered naked bikes. The 1000r is still stupidly fast for the road and has a MUCH more comfy riding position. You can ride it all day long without any wrist pains and back pains. it also has more torque to come out of the corners on the road than the RR. If you will only ever be a weekend warrior and ride in the canyons and want a sportier bike, then you wont be disappointed with the RR. However, the RR is a race bike first and its meant for the straights. I personally think most people would be happier with the R over the RR unless they a) do track days mostly with it or b) want the look of a full fairing sportsbike.
Beneldor thanks :) I'm in Canada and winters are snowy, so I'd be riding it in spring and summer mostly. I have a passion towards bike than cars, I can't resist bike. Maybe on a long weekend I plan a longer ride but it'd be difficult on 1000R ( say 500km ). BTW I have already dropped the plan for 1000RR, moreover my budget is $15-18 some. I just don't think its a good investment as the bike. I would actually drive it to my job or on a ride on weekends only. I don't want be a racer boy, I just like to ride long and connect with the machine. Harleys are good for it but I want more aggression. anyways, thanks for your reply brother :)
Just a thought, when you guys do your reviews, could you abstain from saying "this" and "that"? I know it could be a pain but sometimes, the points can be vague and mentioning the bike name would be much clearer, especially for those more new to bikes :) Other than that, great job, very informative
You caught us. They are both that good. Really all five bikes (Including MV Brutale on-track) so far are absolutely fantastic. But yes, the BMW and KTM really shine in a way that previously was only available from the Tuono.
They kept saying how the base BMW was a little over $13k when talking cost, but never mentioned that the base Ducati is also a little over $13k as well. Most people don't need the hi-performance suspension/brakes on either bike. I've been trying to decide which to get myself, and I'm leaning toward the Ducati. I really liked my Monster 1000 S2R,and the 1200 should be better, although I will miss the air-cooled S2R's 70ish lb weight advantage over the water-cooled 1200/
They never bring up the maintenance costs of these bikes. BMW and Ducati Don't have a large aftermarket selection so most replacement bits will be straight from the dealer which requires body parts to pay for. I can't speak for KTM though I suspect it isn't much different. The z1000r is cheaper out the door AND to maintain or buy aftermarket parts for. This being said, I'm a sucker for both the BMW and KTM in looks and performance.
+Ricardo Paul Hernández Martínez depends on how you ride. you sit more up right and comfortable. suspension is a little stiff but it handles well. of course what sports type bike isn't hard on suspension. I ridden all over with mine from city traffic to highway to canyon to distance trips and haven't had an issue yet. but that's me
+Ricardo Paul Hernández Martínez the 800 is more practical for average riding. anything in upwards of 1000cc is a little much for the regular roads. i rarely see 6th gear unless cruising at 70 or higher. just remember with MV comes cost. it's like a Porsche. temperamental and minor adjustments are common but there are great bikes if you can tweek the small stuff. same with KTM same with BMW same with Ducati same with Moto Guzzi. that's how they are. 600s are nice but scream on the highway. one of the best I'd like to see in a naked is the gsxr 750 class. 700 to 900 class is a good class for typical usage.
"that bike, this bike, that bike"....
How about referring to them by name so we have some idea of what bike you're talking about?
Great review. This channel has been getting better every year but only recently i would say it has become entertaining as well as informative.
Man, you guys are getting really good at reviews! Thanks for another great video!
Great review not like some other paid advertisements! Keep up the good work guys
That final test in Ktm, Bmw, Aprilia sound awesome..Cannot wait to see that
I am really looking at the z1000 and This video helped me decide for sure, yea if I had the cash for the higher end bikes, it would be worth it, but I can get a good deal on a z1000 then its the best way to go, and since I don't push the bike to the top end of the performance spectrum, I wouldn't notice the differences anyway.
Z1000 for me.
Wow! Good job guys! This was so much better than the last video, looks like they learned how to speak with enthusiasm and the pace of the video is top notch!
Comparing the Monster 1200 to the other bikes is like comparing Margot Robbie with a group of female weightlifters...
What do you mean "We" paleface!
Please only speak for yourself, I love diverse opinion.
I don't mind the geezer. Can't wheelie for toffee, mind.
What do you mean by "we"? I'm sure you meant "I". Don't speak for everybody else.
What a privilege to ride on those roads!
Awesome vid. I have to replay!
Ducati monster bike 821/1200 models are just fucking awesome badass looking bikes...my money on the DUCATI!!!
I agree. I really want the monster 1200s. Good looking bike with lots but useable power. And that exhaust sound.........
This vid came out GREAT...nice work, gents...!
Very Kool...ROCK ON!!!
Great review guys
These guys do great reviews, particularly compared to some English reviews I've seen. Great work.
What is the name of an intro song? It's awesome!
I've Googled the lyrics and sound hounded and can't find it at all...and nobody has responded on here either lol. Let me know if you find it.
+mitsu3kgto The song in the intro is Audio-ology - Roar of a Lion.
Thank you sir!
2017 Naked Street Brawl?
oh my... XD
Is the Triumph Speed Triple not considered in this class?
Good question. Yes it is definitely in this class. However, it is unchanged and already lost this shootout two years ago in its current form. All the bikes you see here are new for 2014 and the top-two will be challenging the reigning king of this class (Aprilia Tuono) in a three-way battle to settle what the very best naked street-fighter is for 2014.
Ah. Noted. =) Thanks for the explanation!
Great review! KTM all the way for me, even the looks.
Excellent vi!
What kind of helmet is that at 0:28. It looks badass.
i would just get the monster i like the looks of it and honestly it has enough power for anyone
Exactly.
I'm glad yall are putting both bikes up against the Tuono! (still wish it was all of the bikes, but oh well) My vote would be that the Tuono is still the best with the S1000RR in 2nd & the KTM 3rd.
The Tuono will be ahead until it has to stop at the gas station or bleed it's rear brake :-)
clauschristoffero Exactly. Plus, Aprilia and KTM dealer support in the US just sucks. I'd rather take the Ducati or the BMW because I can't afford to wait for a month while my part comes in.
Streetfighter S (1098 cc) is still my favourite
Great video. Why cant i ever be up the crest when u guys are?
I used to hate you guys for those canyon roads. Good thing I moved to Switzerland now :)
what do you call a ktm that isn't leaking oil???
empty
Stop trolling
+Krevin Grard Truth hurts bro.
Chris Doms The truth that ktms are great bikes.
Kari Greyd They fucking break down a lot that's the truth I've had two of them never again
I love this channel, can you guys do a review on suzuki sfv 650 gladius???
Good god how much did Kawasaki pay to get these guys to say that it was a good looking bike. Not only was it hit by the ugly stick the whole bloody ugly tree fell on it.
So where is the Speed Triple? The bike that started it all? A Kawasaki and no Triumph? FAIL!
What part of ACH is that at the 5:00 and 7:00 marks?
excellent vid
Whats the song at the beginning?
Ved Jitesh Nope shazam isnt even working
Murkle Man6 watch?v=7F-TIMZTCe0
ScratchN Sniff Thanks so much
Where did they say they were riding at when they were filming this review? I had a hard time hearing John Burns say where they were at. Looks like an awesome place to ride!!!
Can you do a shootout of buell xb12s?
whats d title of the intro song?
Kevin, what is your height and weight? To compare the bike measurement?
Great song at the start.. What's the name of it?
The song is "A Roar of a Lion" by my friend's LA based band Audio-ology. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Thank you guys for posting this comparison reviews...Its such an important info for both potential and non potential buyers.
Also what about Triumph Street triple/Speed triple. How come that was forgotten ??
was an awesome road test! too bad there isn't a new 1199 ducati streetfighter out yet! it would have fit in well in this video! :D
I'd be surprised if we don't see such a bike debut this fall....
KTM Torque Beast in my book is my winner. :)
what's the name of the song that plays at the beginning of this video?
where are they riding?
Where was this filmed? I want to ride these roads.
No Brutale?
I have not seen all of your videos, but what happened with Triumph? Street or Speed Triple?
Good review. I think MOTORCYCLE, MOTOUSA and MCN should get the help of the general public when it comes to the more subjective things about the bike like look and feel. The average person isn't swayed by performance figures and brand reputation. Someone did that a while back and showed that people thought the MV agusta F4 was the best looking bike. What song opens this video? I can't find it.
Love them all! And how can anyone say the z1000n is ugly lol, it's beautiful! Aggressive! A work of art. Like a transformer or a praying mantis.
it's a streetfighter man.. :)
Could you please let me know the name of the song used in the intro...thanks
what the title of the music in first video?
Can't wait for the review with the tuono, I can't see the other two dethroning it
For what i want a naked bike to do and need i think i would take the duke?
Plz the song of the beginning of the video. Who knows?
In time, for me KTM.
The song is "A Roar of a Lion" by my friend's LA based band Audio-ology. Glad you enjoyed the video.
PS - you can hear more of their stuff in the 2013 World Cruiser Shootout video as well.
seanrmatic
Thank you! Great song, for sure. Perfect for the exiting atmosphere of the video beginning. A pitty it was too short.
does anyone else think they sold the ducati short i mean from what they where saying it sounds like it has the most immersive riding experience.
Anyone know what the song at the beginning is?
name of song!!!!! I need
The Kawasaki looks good... The KTM looks kinda ugly.
The monster is kinda aggressive and fit for the streets...the BMW is fair.
How can you do a test like this and leave out the Honda C90 ..
Very disappointing you don't have the MV....
Who sings the intro song?
I love streetfighter bikes!
"The song is 'A Roar of a Lion' by my friend's LA based band Audio-ology. Glad you enjoyed the video. " seanrmatic answered in the older comments
Need to compare the big Duc Streetfighter here instead of the Monster.
What you should have learned is that Triumph is the best of the bunch!
fivefootsixtriumph
It's old now
I have a local dealer that sells KTM and Kawasaki (and Benelli but that's off topic). I was torn between the KTM 1290 and the Kawa Z1000R, so i went in the back to have a chat with the repair and maintenance mechanics working there. They advised to buy the Kawa.

just buy a 390 duke
Speed triple , still the best
lol

The Speed Triple hasn't been the best in years.
Striple 765 all the way
Why no Speed Triple in this shootout?
Another good one guys. One thing I'm really curious about that I didn't notice being mentioned is engine vibes getting through the chassis and into the rider. good question. That's an important factor for me as well. I go for long trips on my bike and I'm a bit "sensitive" to the vibration of the engine. So I too would like an answer to this question!

They answered me here at the linked article page itself, www.motorcycle.com/shoot-outs/2014-super-naked-street-brawl-video
cool, thanks!

How can this test be called the Super Naked Street Brawl without the Aprilia Tuono, the KING of nakeds, not being included....
Anybody know the wind protection on these bikes on the highway (or 70-80mph)?
Yeh, there is none.
The Superduke, for some inexplicable reason, offers very good wind protection.
Wind protection zero on any of these bikes 100 mph is no fun
I'm confused in s1000rr and 1000r.

first song?
Where is the triumph speed triple?
Street fighter v4 doesn’t it look like the the Kawasaki? Maybe the camera man is right?
Just a thought, when you guys do your reviews, could you abstain from saying "this" and "that"? I know it could be a pain but sometimes, the points can be vague and mentioning the bike name would be much clearer, especially for those more new to bikes :)
Other than that, great job, very informative
There are some important opponents missing in your test guys.
"well BMW and KTM your not getting your bikes back for awhile" totally just an excuse to keep riding them lol
You caught us. They are both that good. Really all five bikes (Including MV Brutale on-track) so far are absolutely fantastic. But yes, the BMW and KTM really shine in a way that previously was only available from the Tuono.

wheres the aprilia tuono v4?!?!
Man I love John burns, smooth talker 👍🏾💯🇬🇧
They never bring up the maintenance costs of these bikes. The monster will always be the king of nakeds. The Superduke being a very close second. In my honest opinion.
Aprilia Tuono V4 R beats them all.Why did you not test against the best?
Yup.. that KTM is totally Kick ass!!
Where is Speed triple?????
Where is the Aprilia Tuono?
KTM, BMW and Ducati you pay a high price for your status symbol. For the price and performance you can't beat the Kawasaki. Bar none!
Why not test all the Nakeds together? Speed Triple R, Aprillia Tuono, etc...
I choose the MV 1078 Brutale because of the comfort on the street. Nakeds are great for a fast fun bike without the comfort issues
Very true ... I've had. 2 z1000 then switched to a gsxr 750 ....probably going back to a z very soon .
I know MV brutales are fucking beautiful, but how good are they for an urban ride?
+Ricardo Paul Hernández Martínez depends on how you ride. you sit more up right and comfortable. suspension is a little stiff but it handles well. of course what sports type bike isn't hard on suspension. +Colby Butler very well, what do you think about the MV brutale 800 rr?
The guy in the red standing next to the BMW reminds me of Carl Segan, only the way he talks
