The problem with most reviews (be it video or written) is that people don't actually know how to review. They give their opinion and experience with whatever it is they review but they rarely present facts, explain important topics or functions and often are not prepared with info and say things like "I think it weights this much but I'm not sure". These are never problems with the Urban Prepper. Always great reviews giving the facts and experiences. Thank you!
Wow! Thank you so much for the compliment. I really appreciate it, as I try hard to provide very detailed reviews that are driven by data and facts to help viewers make a more educated purchase decision. I am so happy that you enjoy this presentation style.
Yup effort shows, a lot of people are just paid shills by companies to give their thoughts on a item X company sent them, and they use it for an hour. This is a primer on how a review should be done. Big fan of this light for an edc, can carry deep and just disappears in the pocket on my denim, (fairly slim raw denim as well for reference). I also own the M2R warrior and love it, little too big for me as an edc HOWEVER, unlike the others and M2R warrior pro, it's not a proprietary battery which rocks and what I'm interested in for a more prepping oriented light. I already own a stockpile of Samsung 30Q's etc. M2R warrior is a fantastic light in a prepping sense for me.
Jumped on this myself! Just wish I'd thought to add a couple spare charging cables to my order, since shipping was covered... Wanted an extra battery but the lady I spoke with said it wasn't listed yet!
I agree with the other folks commenting, that your reviews are exceptionally well done and thorough. I bought the Javelot R20 a few years ago after watching your review. I particularly liked the explanation on measuring light output. This light looks like a winner, too.
After buying this and watching all the videos out there on this light. I have mine in my possession. In order to get all the details on how to do all the functions on this light I had to refer back to this video. Not a single other video on this light (and I watched at least 10) talked about everything such as the locking feature. Your video was about the product and not trying to sell the product. You covered more than everyone else trying to sell the product for their own gain. Your video (IMO) will be viable and stand the test of time compared to other's for the flash sale. This is a testament to you classiness and why I see your videos on product sites and review sites. You are in a class of your own. Kudos.
Wow! Thank you SO much. I really appreciate that. Yeah, I really try to make these videos to stand the test the time here on TH-cam and just provide data to the viewers to help them with their purchase decision. I really appreciate the kind words.
I'm an Olight fan. Used them for everyday tasks and on the job firefighting/rescue. Fantastic product. This is an awesome review and exactly covers the key points that would be of issue after weeks / months of use.
I caught a brief portion of this review a few months back, but it wasn't until today that I referred back and watched the entire video. Even before the end, I knew your channel was worthy of a subscribe, which I've just done. Very professional, concise, and more detail than most could ever hope to obtain. The one detail that I was surprised wasn't explicitly stated, was the color temperature. While you did mention, "CW" as part of the model of the LED, the average person probably won't recognize that as a "cool white" LED which, I believe, is the whitest LED available from Olight? That is actually one frustrating part about Olight's website, is that it's not always easy to determine the color temperature of a particular model, UNLESS they're all CW, unless specifically stated?? I know with the recent S1RII Ti Baton series in the seasonal colors, some were cool, some neutral, and the Winter version was actually a WW, or warm white LED. I definitely prefer CW in almost every situation, which is another reason I'm consdering the S2R Baton II as my next EDC. Thanks for such an excellent review.
Great review, Cliff! I'm always blown away at how much detail you use when describing specs and features. I'm excited to get one soon!! I recently lost my new S1R II Baton so I was pretty bummed until I saw they were updating this one! Thanks to you and Olight for the giveaway.
Nice review! I have an S1A that I love carrying with me everyday. The ability to use a single AA battery to power a pretty powerful light is a big plus. I can see the S2R being a good supplement or even car light if necessary.
I agree about the charging cable. I like the idea of the magnetic cap to charge. But it would also be nice to have just a common used method so you didn’t have to keep up with one extra cord. But I do enjoy the o light products. And I love you reviews! You are very detailed and fair. Keep up the great work!
Good review! I can only add that it is not a standard 18650 battery, it has ring plate around the positive terminal so it can be charged by contacts at one end. Normal 18650's will fit and run but will not charge with the supplied magnetic charger. Hope that helps, Jong.
What the heck! The "Technical Details" tab on the product page says 18650 only! I hope someone gets fired for that blunder!! (lmao thanks for clarifying)
This light is a beast for EDC imo best size and performance, I'm a M2R Warrior guy myself, (not pro proprietary batteries no go and 18650's are essential for my grid down planning for me anyways) but I've always wanted to pick one these up.
I always feel bad about my own videos when I see how much effort you put into yours. Fantastic video and I liked the Distance Measuring. Really fantastic. Work. Always go immediately to your video when I spot it on my subscriptions page.
That is a pretty nice flashlight, but the price is pretty steep. I am still rocking my Fenix E05 from 6 years ago! It has gone through the washer multiple times and still works great!
Thank you for confirming that this can be charged by USB. Amazon wasn’t so transparent. As an Australian looking to purchase an EDC torch from outside the country compatible batteries/outlet adapters are a real concern.
Yet another great review thanks. What I don't understand is they have the MR2 Warrior with the same charging cable and facilty that charges any 18650 battery why have they gone backwards to a more expensive propiatry battery system again does not make sense plus I would like to see the clip as long as the one on the MR2 Warrior.
Thanks for the very comprehensive review of this light! It looks like a light that would work great for me, and I'll probably be purchasing one after payday. Keep the videos coming!
I EDC the S1R - great flashlight!. I've been carrying it for quite some time now. Note that you have to use their OLight battery to use turbo mode, so if you want to have a second battery on hand, you'll want to buy the specific battery sold for the specific model and model year of flashlight. They upgrade their flashlights from time to time, but don't change the model numbers.
I have several olights all have the magnetic charger I did make thechoice to keep them all the same so theres pl3nty of charges and the proprietary custom battery
Do you think i could wear this flashlight on my keychain? … both in size, as well as would the hole for the lanyard fit some sort of ring so that it would go on my keyring?
@@TheUrbanPrepper I take it the S1R takes AAA batteries? … which would basically make it a Maglite Solitair? … hoping to get away from AAA and go full on AA, just hoping to find the smallest and thinnest AA flashlight there is for on my keychain. hence i inquire ;)
I've been EDC carrying the original S2 Baton since it was launched & consider it ESSENTIAL, ever present pocket contents, nearly perfect in concept. Looking forward to this much improved descendant especially for the new TIR lens & softened edges. Several of my britches have worn holes from the sharp edges of the base cap!
The magnetic charging cable that is shown in the video is not the newer one that comes with the light. At the moment it does not appear that the new MCC II is even listed as a separate accessory for purchase. The newer one would charge the light faster. As noted on an olightstore page, "The S1R II also comes with an upgraded MCC2 magnetic USB charging cable that Is more compact and offers a faster 1A charge rate." Yes, I know that statement is from the smaller light, but I did not see it worded that way for the S2R II. They both come with the same thinner, rounded edge, magnetic charging cable. Olight apparently don't yet have extra MCC2 or MCC II charging cables, the batteries with the higher C rating, or they just have not listed them yet as far as I know. You might want to ask to exchange it. The good news for owners of multiple rechargeable Olights is that their charging cables are generally interchangeable except for the much larger R50 Pro and the specialized PL MINI. As for pricing Olights are premium lights AND generally include everything you need. I compared one light that appeared much less until one took into account the pricey 18650 battery that the other brand did not include and then the cost was virtually identical. If price is an issue, and it generally is for me, try to make at least some of your purchases when there is a flash or similar sale. My Olight SR2 II is currently charging, but so far my only con is that the CCI 7500 is cooler than I like. I prefer a neutral white. The SR1 II is a cool white too, but it is marked as CCI 6500 and is definitely a bit warmer. There may be brightness, sourcing, efficiency, or cost issues which affect the color temperature availability.
Yes, I mentioned in the video that I lost the MCC2 a few days after receiving the flashlight, so I needed to use the previous MCC for charging. One of the cons of having a proprietary charging cable, IMO. Thanks for the extra information on the ordering of the MCC2!
I did hear you mention that cable loss and when it is difficult to even replace the MCC2 with an identical one it proves your point, I did see you had a picture of the MCC2. Hopefully Olight will get the supply issue taken care of. I also hope your MCC2 turns up somewhere, perhaps magnetically stuck to something. One good thing about having more than one rechargeable Olight is also having spare charging cables to use to mitigate the issue that it is specialized. That makes the convenience especially worthwhile. I also have the S1R Baton II so now have two of the newer cables. I keep the various cables stuck to the side of my filing cabinet for easy access. I also have the Olight Charging Dock S Series next to my desk, and don't know if they plan on updating that or not. Perhaps after your illuminating the issue I'll just leave the prior MCC in my electronics go bag for now and keep the MCC2 for home! ;-) Thanks for you thorough video review. When I received my S1R Baton II, I thought Olight had taken the best features of the Baton and mini-Baton, combined them and added some new ones. I really appreciate the new light. I liked the prior S1 and S1R Baton, but love the newer "II" version. I only received the S2R Baton today and so far it seems that it will also be a worthy companion.
I asked Olight Australia when they will be bringing out a Neutral White LED model. Olight are one of the few Chinese brands to have a solid presence in Oz. They said there might be a few limited runs available in future. I respect that...but given their NW options in other lights...I think they could have straight up offered it in this model and it would've been already in my order list. I couldn't care less about the reduced lumens...for a small non tac edc I prefer better colour rendition. A larger tac light I like a bezel and tint just needs to be a nice true white white...not green or purple or blue. Cheers for the extensive testing.
Can this light be charged at anytime? Like for example, the medium mode has a run time of 14 hours. If, when fully charged, I use it on medium for like 2 or 3 hours and the battery indicator is still green, can I just throw it on the charger? I have been waiting for it to turn yellow or red before I charge it. Whereas only using around 2 hours and just using it again the next night without charging, I'd be afraid if I really had to push it on like high, that the battery would be used from the 2 hours the night before, and therefore not be as charged.
Cool light, I had been considering the mini. Just from initial thoughts I had the same one downside as you was the charging station, though cool and easy with the magnetic base a micro USB is more universal and chances are already have those in your kits. Good review as always.
Great review and a great flashlight. I love Olight flashlights, I have the S1R and the SR mini intimidator. This would be the perfect compliment to my collection!
Great review, well designed and executed. To be picky, I’d love to have seen the turbo mode one your distance measure, but just out of curiosity. I’d also love to see you do a comparison to the original S2R as well. I have the original and was going to buy the new one, but the comparison is not straightforward. There are pros and cons to each and they’re both still available. I’ve subscribed, just in case you do!
Thanks for the comment! I have some more flashlight reviews in the works. There are a lot of other reviews on the S2R, so I'd have to figure out a way of covering it without reinventing the wheel. Turbo is hard to test accurately because it steps down so quickly in illumination. Thanks for subscribing!
I liked your thoroughness and objectivity. What bothered me was this model came out and was vaunted as the greatest thing since sliced bread, but comparing the stats on their website it’s far from clear it’s an improvement. Ie more lumins in turbo, but for less time and fewer candelas. A shorter throw too - lens related I’d guess. Your objective data would certainly add clarity. Might not impress Olight I’d expect and they’ll sell out of the first iteration soon. Maybe I should snap one up next time they have a sale?
Great review, I EDC the S1R in Pocket, and the S2R in the EDC bag (same charger for each) Hmmm I like this S2r II though -- how can I justify it??---- Oh maybe 'cause of the sale???
I do like olight, but im not a real fan of their charging capabilities, and i dont like using their proprietary battery, but overall, i like their lights. And i surely love to have this one on my EDC.

I love that magnetic charging dock. Still don't understand the point of a 2 minute 1100 lumen mode.
Haha... Me either. It's basically a 400 lumen flashlight. Nothing wrong with that. I find that I don't use turbo too often for EDC purposes.
Totally cool looking light and an informative review for sure! That flashlight looks incredibly useful and versatile in its uses too.

Great review and a great flashlight. I love Olight flashlights, I have the S1R and the SR mini intimidator. This would be the perfect compliment to my collection!
As always, great and very thorough review. Excellent job!👍🏽
Best review on a light I’ve seen. Great work man.
Thank you so much, Bill!
Great review as always! Thanks for sharing!
Very cool light. Thanks for the video
You're very welcome. Thanks for watching and commenting, Mickey!
Can this light work on 2 123a batteries?
Great Review like always! Not in to prepping too much, but I love your EDC and product reviews.
Thank you, Brandon! It's nice to have a well rounded mix of viewers with different interests.
Nice little flash light but it is problematic when you lose a proprietary charger. Thx
Thanks for commenting, Susan. Yeah, proprietary items are always tricky.
Love the flashlight. Great review. I hope you’re enjoying the Manhattan Portage coin purses!
The Manhatter Portage coin purses are AWESOME! Thank you so much for the recommendation. You've upgraded my EDC, Sean!
Looks like a great little light to keep it in your pocket!
Groovy light but for my EDC torch is my night lite with a rechargeable lithium battery the size of a key!
Wow you really torn into this review. Thanks so much.
How does it do in freezing cold temps? That’s when I seem to need it the most when I have a brake down on my vehicle(s)
Really thorough review, thanks
Great review! Looks like an awesome little light
Olight makes top quality flashlights. Thanks for a great review.
I agree. They sure do. Thanks for the comment.
Survival Ruthie says "Your flashlight reviews are the best!"
WOW! Thank you so much!
That look like a neat flashlight. Love the small size
Thanks for the detailed video! Unboxed mine to your video and now I can skip reading the directions!
Awesome review...thank you.
Great review!!! How would you rate it against the S1R Baton II?
Great review, I EDC the S1R in Pocket, and the S2R in the EDC bag (same charger for each)
Hmmm I like this S2r II though -- how can I justify it??---- Oh maybe 'cause of the sale???
Thorough review.
Thanks Donny!
Great review, very thorough and informative. I'm very interested in this flashlight.
I'm glad you enjoyed it, Christian!
That's super nice, def gotta add one to my EDC
I think you would be happy with it as part of your EDC.
Good review Cliff! Keep 'em coming!
How long to charge?
I do like olight, but im not a real fan of their charging capabilities, and i dont like using their proprietary battery, but overall, i like their lights. And i surely love to have this one on my EDC.
Great review. You are simply the best.
Thank you so much, Brian! I really appreciate it.
Nice review as always. But i have one question, can i get replacement batteries for it. Or does it work wit other 18650 batteries.
Thanks Johan! It will work with other 18650 batteries (except Turbo mode, I believe).
@@TheUrbanPrepper Thank you.
Oh man I loved that flash light! I want one! 😮
It's a nice one!
Nice review. I have recently become a flashaholic, with Olight turning out to be my favourite brand.
This is a nice edc option!
I agree. Thanks Arthur!
Excellent info on this man!
Thanks a bunch!
