Definitely subbed. I'm starting to get back into the esl teaching and tutoring field. I was an esl private tutor back in 2006 for two years when I was am youngster. Although I had to leave due to visa issues I loved it. Korea here I come again lol.

ESL online interview. normally there is couple key point- 1. speak slowly 2. try to be outgoing 3. make example 4. leading talk but not always self talking

Anyone going to talk about how slightly nasty it is that your "bad interviewer" character is like slightly kitschy and hip-hop inspired while your "good interviewer" character is very waspy. You can be waspy and still bad at interviewing but whateves thanks for trying to put effort in

Thanks for bringing up these points, it did make me stop and think about the motivation behind this video.
I can see why you might feel the example of how not to interview might be hip-hop inspired, so let me explain my thought process behind the video. This character was based upon many teachers I have actually interviewed and is a reflection on the the ESL job market in China. In China, there are far too many jobs and not enough teachers. This makes it very easy for teachers to choose the company they would like to work for. As such, many teachers make no effort when interviewing and will literally turn up to interview in scruffy t-shirts and caps assuming that because they speak English, they will get the job. This particular character was based upon the many teachers like this that I have interviewed.
I totally agree that you can be waspy and still interview badly. Waspy-ness certainly won't get you a job! But, I hope that the video gave some useful information about how to answer some common interview questions and help build your confidence when interviewing.

Would you recommend a phone or computer for a WeChat interview? Also would you recommend earphones instead of using the speaker? Thanks!
Hi Daniel! I would recommend a computer, positioned at eye level so that the camera angle is more flattering. If you only have a phone that’s okay too, but set it up at eye level and hands free so you don’t need to hold it. I would suggest headphones if you’re not in a quiet place when you interview. Mooncake English The interview went well. Was quicker than I expected. I was asked to make a demonstration. My interviewer seemed very occupied with his child as they likely had off for the Lunar New Year 😅.
There should be a black/asian version of this. It's a very different interview.

Regarding working in China, it's currently a little tricky due to the recent world changing events. Currently foreigners are not able to enter China, so although there are plenty of teaching opportunities here, it's not possible to enter the country. For online teaching experience your best bet is to research some different online companies. There are lots of different requirements and pay depending on your experience and the country they provide lessons to. Be sure to do lots of research before signing up!

Hi.. thank you for your videos. They are realy great.. Today i have had an itnerview for teaching online. Previousely i have neither online teaching experience nor TEFL/TESOL even though i have masters degree in agricultural econimics (western structured curriculum) However, they wrote me that the roles they are currently hiring are not aligned to my experience and skill set, and asking for permission to keep close contact with me in order to reach out to me as soon as there will be a role suiting to my intetests and skill set. With your permission i would like to know your opinion related with the message. Thank you

I'm sorry your interview wasn't successful in this instance. Sometimes schools are looking for a teacher for a specific age group. So, if they think hat you are more suited to teach older students, but they're currently recruiting for a position with younger students, they may keep your details for future positions. I would keep applying to different. positions and try to find the right position for you.
