I'm 65 and to the horror of my friends, keep away from the health clinic. It's the big 3 for me....mind, body and spirit. It takes guts to stand up to the mainstream western medicine system. I get on the average of one to two finger pointing messages/phone calls a week how I am endangering myself by not submitting to the typical "senior citizen" menu of tests, meds and winter vaccines. They are not impressed by my regime of fresh food, fresh herbs, walking the dog, tai chi and volunteering. Interesting that I get harassed for not needing a doctor in 7 years when all my friends who do all the "right things" are always ailing.

All the doctors I know are the weediest or fattest unhealthy specimens you'll ever see.
Went to hospital involuntary after car accident early 2020 and a slight injury, was put through all sorts of tests for free in Sydney Australia as they do and they found nothing, saw a doctor I knew to confirm that all was clear 4 months later when he asked will i take the Covid jabs when they are released...I said loudly NO and he just laughed.
Stayed away from doctors ever since.

    I would add:
    5. Vitamin D, preferably from the sun directly.
    6. Water
    7. Walking every day.
    8. Maintaining social connections.
Also, learning new things is good for warding off not only cognitive decline but also depression. Same for maintaining social connections. Depression can lead to not caring about one's physical health, or sometimes even one's life.

I just told my sister & a friend this exact thing. Im a very healthy 59 yr old. Most of my friends are a couple of yrs older, in terrible shape. Knee replacements, taking meds that are doing more harm than good. Im usually the 1 they'll ask to open a jar..i say ur 2 yrs older than me, why can't you do it?
Eitherway ive no desire to be around in 10 yrs. Im not depressed or su¡c¡d@l . I look @ our country & think i can't get out of here fast enough. There are no golden years. If you've done well, saved money, paid ur home off. You will still be taxed to death. I carry my key fob in a protective pouch so hopefully my vehicle won't be stolen or easily stolen. The nearest city is just minutes away. I no longer go to my favorite restaurants bc crime is off the charts. I don't want to caught in the middle of a shoot out on the expressway. They say life is what you make it but I say our lives are tolerating what others hv destroyed. Ive no desire to tolerate it much longer. Sad but true.

As a newly- minted senior, thank you, Dr. Dhand. I've already incorporated some of your wisdom into my diet (eg, fresh turmeric). Here's my tip, mostly for saving $$s; just turned 65 this year:
    1. spoke to the meat manager at the local supermarket, and asked her when she does the mark-downs. I shop 4-5 days a week for 50% off beef (which still has 2 days 'best before' shelf life), and that saves a lot. Legs of lamb, roasts, and osso buoco (sp?), oxtails, are all great for nutrients. I'm picky about my chicken, having had salmonella once, so I only buy Halal and fresh.
    2. If you're starting out light weights, fill a couple of water/soda bottles with sand; they make good dumb bells, albeit fairly light. Bands are awesome, and lots of videos online. Push-ups, or wall push-ups, are great. Squats if you can do them (I can't ... knees). Also, walking backwards will strengthen your knee muscles. True!
    3. Crosswords, or learn to paint/sculpt; write that poetry; journal; art supplies at the $$ store
    4. Blueberries, people! Wild blueberries, wholesome yogurt and cinnamon... ahhh. And ~5 grams of fresh, organic turmeric, squished with some fresh ground pepper and perhaps an apple to break the fast, and signal the brain that food is coming, prepare for digestion!
I achieved my goal of being pharma-free at 65, and wish the same for you all. Happy New Year!

Dr. Dhand, great advice that I would suggest people should start applying in their early 50s. Our body can heal if we give it the nutrients it needs. And starting earlier means you can stay healthy before things start “breaking down”. And don’t let a doctor tell you that everyone suffers from (insert disease). Chronic disease isn’t related to age, it IS related to nutrition. Stay healthy and enjoy life.

    • @ppmppm7010

I made a big fuss and insisted they provided blueberries every morning for my oatmeal (the only breakfast I could stand) and I had no problems. They weren't organic but better than what they wanted to put into me. Also, I have been weight lifting since my twenties. When I looked around at the other patients in physical therapy most of them over 65, I felt like Schwarzenegger and I was 70. Even the therapists said I was recovering much better than they usually saw.

Also make sure to focus on lowering your carbs, avoiding snacking, and adding in some extended fasting if possible. Some benefits of doing occasional extended fasting: High blood pressure is lowered to normal levels very quickly while fasting. Fibrosis/scarring is reversed over time, including in the heart and lungs.
Fasting increases T cell production and regenerates the thymus. T cells are vital in fighting cancer, autoimmune disease and infections but as we age the thymus stops making as many of them. Fasting releases stem cells, which then can become new T cells. Fasting also releases growth hormone, which regenerates the thymus itself, which aids this process!
Fasting stimulates phagocytosis, the ingestion of bacteria, plaques and viruses by the immune system. This will also remove any spikes, whether natural or unnatural in origin!
Blood clotting is reduced and blood clots and arterial plaque are reabsorbed into the body.
Vitamin D plasma levels are increased as fasting improves metabolic health, and vitamin D in turn increases autophagy.
Fasting restores your circadian rhythm to normal over time.
    Fasting increases nitric oxide release.
Fasting restores NAD+ to healthy levels.
Reflexes and short term memory are increased.
Fasts from 36-96 h increase metabolic rate due to norepinephrine release!
Telomeres are lengthened and fasting also increases anti-aging Yamanaka factors.
After 72 hours or more fasted, your body recycles up to 1/3 of all immune bodies, rejuvenating your entire immune system. This helps prevent the onset of new autoimmune conditions, which develop through a leaky gut and damaged immune system.
Fasting can help with MS, Depression, BPD, Autism and seizures.
Thymus is regenerated, which suppresses aging and renews the immune system. The thymus also plays a vital role in fighting cancer.
Weight loss from daily caloric restriction has 1/4 to 1/3 of the weight lost as lean tissue while many studies show fat loss from 36 h fasts without losing any lean tissue!
The obese will lose extra tissue like loose skin while fasting, but the skinny or frail will have increased growth hormone release than the obese, which helps to make more lean tissue and reduce frailness.
When you move out of MTOR your body shuts down the building blocks of the cell required for viruses to replicate.
The hunger hormone ghrelin also lowers with extended fasting and rises from dieting.
What breaks a fast? Anything with protein or carbohydrates in it will break a fast. Most teas and herbs are OK. Most supplements and meds will either break ketosis directly or contain a filler that will. Many meds are dangerous to take while fasting.
Does fasting lower testosterone? No, it raises it when the fast is broken by increasing lutenizing hormone. Fasting also increases insulin sensitivity, which helps with muscle building.
Fasts of 36-96 will not affect short term female fertility or affect menstrual cycle.
Fasting reduces pain and anxiety by stimulating the endocannabinoid system in a similar way to CBD oil.
One day of fasting can cut your leptin levels in half and gets your immune system working properly again! This reduces leptin resistance, which impairs immune function.
Stomach acid is reduced over time while fasting and can allow for the healing of treatment resistant ulcers. Some patients may need continued acid reduction medication while fasting.
Does the body preferentially prefer glucose as a fuel? No. Except for brief periods of very intense exercise, your body mainly burns fats in the form of free fatty acids. Your brain also prefers to burn ketones at a rate of around 2.5 to 1 when they are available in equal quantity to glucose.
Fasting stimulates the AMPK complex and activates autophagy. Autophagy (literally self eating) will cause cells to recycle damaged proteins and foreign matter such as viruses. It will can kill cancerous and senescent cells
Lowering insulin via fasting virtually eliminates chronic inflammation in the body.
It increases mitochondrial function and repairs mitichondrial DNA, leading to improved ATP production and oxygen efficiency. Increased mitochondrial function also has the added benefit of increasing your metabolism, fighting infection and cancer prevention!
Fasting releases BDNF and NGF in the blood which stimulates new nerve and brain cell growth. This can help a great deal with diseases like MS, peripheral neuropathy and Alzheimers.
When not in ketosis, the brain can only burn carbohydrate, which produces a great deal of damaging ROS the brain has to deal with.
Fasting also increases telomere length, negating some of the effects of aging at a cellular level.
When you fast, this stimulates apoptosis in senescent or genetically damaged cells, destroying them. Senescent cells are responsible for many of the effects of aging and are a root cause of the development of cancer.
A fasting mimicking diet for 3-5 days in a row also provides many of the same benefits as water fasting. FMD usually has 200-800 calories, under 18 g of protein and extremely low carbs.
Exogenous ketones can aid with fasting, making it easier in healthy people and allowing some people with specific issues to fast in spite of them without worrying as much about hypoglycemia. They also help with dementia and many other issues even if you take them while not fasting!
Glycine and trimethylglycine can also be useful supplements while fasting that won't break ketosis and have many benefits.
Children, pregnant or nursing women should not fast for periods longer than 16 hours. People with pancreatic tumors or certain forms of hypoglycemia generally cannot fast at all. Type 1 diabetics can also fast but it is more complicated and should be approached with caution as it could lead to ketoacidosis. If you experience extreme symptoms of some kind, especially dizziness or tremors, then simply break the fast and seek advice.

As a 10 year vegan over 55, my experience has been that eating whole plant-based foods, and eliminating eggs, meat, fish and dairy, has greatly enhanced my quality of life and hopefully my longevity. The egg, dairy and meat industries are unbelievably cruel, environmentally unsustainable, and full of disease causing elements. Some plant proteins have more protein and nutrients than a piece of meat or an egg. The world’s strongest man, Patrick Baboumian, is vegan and so are many international bodybuilders and athletes such as Fiona Oakes and MMA fighter King Bau.

Ah, yes, those 'statins'. Biggest lie ever hoisted onto the Boomer generation.
Back in the mid 1980s a 300 cholesterol count was labelled as 'high normal'. Then they 'changed the math', and anything over 200 was suddenly just 'high cholesterol' and millions, over night, suddenly had 'high cholesterol' and were put on statins....a huge money maker for them. I, like you, went off my two meds - for cholesterol and thyroid - and I've never felt better. I did it after my doctor told me that "perhaps my thyroid was raising my cholesterol ! " So WHY am I on statins, again, for YEARS, then ?!! Cholesterol makes up much of your brain and is required in EVERY cell of your body to make it 'run properly'. Anyhow the 'battle between the meds' was over, and I am currently on NO meds at all, as a senior. Highly unusual, if you ask around... Like I said, I've never felt better. Statins also have a shopping list as long as your arm of the bad side effects that can develop over the years like diabetes, muscle loss and/or weakness, joint pain, brain fog and even dementia can develop after long term use - another reason why I got off of them. Many doctor videos out here, on these topics. This is just what I did, but do your own research, everyone.

Thank you so much Dr Dhand for the great information. On a side note you hit the nail on the head about the establishment not wanting elderly people to be around too long. You’re the best thank you for making others aware.

I was in a nursing home after a car wreck. The sweet older lady that was my roommate had a huge family all ready to take care of her. She'd had a stroke. I watched the therapist work with her on her swallowing and she was doing very well. But they kept giving her really poor quality high carb food and then telling her she couldn't go home because her blood sugar kept spiking. Longer stay, more money. You don't have to be House MD to diagnose what was going on. It's not that they wanted to end your father but they like zombie patients who don't demand proper care. Sorry for what they did to him.

For neurological issues I recommend you look into the Heavy Metal Detox Smoothie recipe from the Medical Medium book series by Anthony William. The books can give you more info on what foods to eat regularly to help your specific conditions.

When my mother lost her teeth she began depending on the protein supplements like Ensure. She went downhill with dementia pretty fast. Her house was always dark with a lamp to read and she had a small CO1 leak. I had no say in her life, being cut off but I cared and hated to see it happen.
If teeth are missing and you can't afford a dentist (USA) it's easy to use a blender for veggies and Spam with breakfast eggs. Oatmeal is highest in protein of grains and easy to eat. Being of Scots descent I took to it!! The advice here is excellent, thank you!
Some want a pet but say they can't afford one...the corporate pet agenda is full of lies. I have a rescue English pointer who keeps me, at 76, up and going! We share the same food a lot and I keep kibble on hand. He has only one vaxx....for rabies...plus heartworm ivermectin monthly. That's it. Also there are resources to help if you ask your local govt. shelter....not charities, but the county. They will do anything to place a stray and help with food. The charities like Humane Society claim to be no-kill BUT instead turn over extra dogs to the county for killing.....please beware of such claims. Animal stuff can be as crooked as human stuff!!! Blessed New Year to all...may the UK have some relief and encouragement.

Thank you again, Suneel, for your tireless commitment to people’s health rather than the tireless disease mongering manufactured by the marketplace. I am a scientist clinician who also makes health promotion the priority.
An update on the protein issue. There is more evidence now supporting that those in the industrialized countries consume excessive rather than too little protein (kwashiorkor remains rare even in those over 65 years, in fact, in my practice of almost 50 years, I have never seen it or its biomarkers, or remotely as a health issue. Over the past 70-80 years, this excess protein has been linked to more health issues, than any deficiency, is industrialized countries, including elders. Certainly adequate protein, preferably from plant sources (which is wholly underestimated), is crucial at any age. When it comes to elders, yes they do lose muscle mass with advancing years, but building/maintaining their muscle mass is mostly from loading muscle through being regularly physically active and exercise, is key.
Another point, which is singularly important, is the ‘belief’ that animal-sourced foods are ideal sources of protein for humans (as illustrated by all but one of your examples being animal-sourced). This belief, which corporate/political interests and we in the medical establishment , is simply not true. It comes as a big surprise to many including health professionals due to our firmly-held beliefs, that humans are actually ‘vegan-by-design’. And, this is based on irrefutable evidence, which is largely suppressed given extensive corporate in investment in promoting meat, dairy, and eggs. The more plant-based our diets are, the healthier we are, and the longer and happier living, we are. The more we digress from this eating pattern the sicker, we are.
Appreciating that you are committed to the evidence, Suneel, I will not cite all the literature here, as this is not the place, but the best evidence based sources for you are Dr. Michael Greger’s non-profit website (and his evidence-based books) nutritionfacts.org and Dr. Neal Barnard’s non-profit site PCRM.org (Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine).
Thank you again. I hope these resources are useful to you in your in-going quest to translate the evidence and knowledge, in a valid manner.
Ever in pursuit of healthier people and healthier planet,
    Professor-Elizabeth

Virtually all you videos are great. I'm 72 now and happy to say that I do all these things, except maybe the strength stuff although I do occasionally break out the exercise bands, but then I live in the country and regularly do stuff like cutting brush and have no problem shooting baskets are playing tennis,. Heck, I hung in for a full hour a couple years ago with a grand daughter who was playing on her high school tennis team. She called it quits when I started actually returning the balls with authority. She shouldn't have started hitting to my backhand and making me run so much. So I don't think I'm being too bad by not doing regular strength exercise.
I know my mental faculties have declined some but still enjoy leaning new songs to play on my guitar and now learning to code in a new language, python. I plan, and hope I go out like my maternal grand father. He died from his first heart attack, at the age of 92. He was still going to dances and chasing women. My wife tells me she'll kill me if I start the last part so ????
Funny thing. When you were talking about protein I grabbed my calculator to see how much I should consume. Did the pound to KG conversion and got my answer right when you gave me the answer, 75 kg. (I log all my foods in the fitbit app and looked at the macro nutrients I had consumed for the day. I was 4 grams short but this had been one of my lower protein days.

I am 66. At 60 I realized retirement is a full-time job. I don't own a car anymore and bicycle, hike or kayak to my destination. I weight train for upper body during the cycling months and eat only organic/natural foods that I prepare myself from scratch. So, riding a bike about 7000 miles a year, hiking 1000, and weight training upper body 3 times a week, I have been able to hold muscle mass and energy for 6-hour continuous bicycle rides in the extremes of the mountains, and hike. A performing musician in solo piano keeps the mind sharp because my program is memorized and do not use sheet music. Plus, I am also an orchestrator of synth instruments which means keeping up with recording techniques, diving deep into synthesizers complex operating systems. Plus, I work my business part time which includes design for print/radio/TV/video/websites. Writing code, photography, videography, illustrations, animations, computer repair and maintenance keep the mind going. I call this life a "Pure Lifestyle" making all the good decisions about health for a strong mind, body, heart, soul, energy. God the Creator is recognized to balance spirit with body (heart, body, soul) and perform music of my own compositions for others that are positive energy giving beautiful things that God would love.

I found it exhaustive just reading all the things you do. You are wonderful, magnificent. My dear old dad died May the first of this year at 106 and he would laugh at people who ran around or rode
Bikes to get exercise. He kept busy everyday working on something that required brain power muscle power ingenuity or a combination of all of them. He had an inquisitive mind and read books each day thanks to reading books even though he went blind. He ate real food up until he had his meals prepared at an independent living facility. It’s all about the bottom line in those places. He enjoyed people and would seek out company and conversation. He was still cognitively sharp at 100, and went to Sweden for the first time to meet relatives. I was blessed to have him as my dad even though we had some difficult years. Stay away from Doctors. He just simply ran out of gas. Love❤ 🙏

@@Danielle-xg8cu I'm happy for you. I love blueberries. I tried growing them but it didn't work.
Even when I was in France I didn't buy them that often. So expensive 3/4 euros for a punnet of 125grams.
Occasionally you can get a similar deal in the big supermarkets in Italy but I live a long way from the towns. A man with a freezer van used to sell frozen ones - perhaps it was 300g for 6 euros! - it was dear anyway.
In England for about £3 you can get a punnet of 250g with a two-for-one deal.
They should be called blue pearls but America is the land of plenty.
