    He's always been one of my favorites, but I'd never seen him rock like this with black back-up singers. Wow, love it!

      Wow, he's so youthful looking here. The past few years I've been watching his most recent performances and got used to seeing him in his 70s. I haven't seen him in his 20s for years. LoL. What a beautiful soul back then and even more so today! Of the enormous amount of people I've known in my life either because of their celebrity or because they are family/friend/acquaintance/coworker/ neighbor, Donovan is literally the only person I have never gotten even a little mad at, annoyed with, disappointed in, suspicious of, or resentful of, and he's the only person I have never uttered a negative word about him. I feel like he is the most genuine human that ever lived. ❤✌️👍🙏

    Beautiful voice. The best singers always have a transcendent emotional authenticity that carries a listener to a special place. Donovan has had that in spades since the beginning. Great singer, songwriter and performer. Thanks for all.

    I haven't seen much of Donovan's 70's performance in band form. I especially like 7-tease and slow down world, essence to essence. This was the first time I saw a live performance of Donovan's rock and roll with me, which he released as a single in preparation for his expansion into the United States. Thank you for sharing great content. I am a japanese fan. I'm glad that Live in Japan was released on CD to commemorate the 50th anniversary.

    Donovan doing David Bowie's "When You Rock and Roll with Me" starting at 12:04. I'm totally blown away by this because this is a very obscure Bowie song. I'm a huge Bowie and Donovan fan, so this is quite a pleasant surprise to have discovered this.

    • @whitebirchtarot
      @whitebirchtarot ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I was really surprised to hear Donovan sing “rock ‘n’ roll with me” as well. Although he has a lovely voice, the comparison really shows how powerful Bowie‘s voice was. That song always gave me shivers.

    • @Zobin211
      @Zobin211 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@whitebirchtarot Totally agree. "Rock 'n' Roll with Me" is not a song that gets much attention, but I have always loved it.
      Bowie played most of the instruments on the Diamond Dogs album (my personal fave), so that is him playing the guitar solo in "Rock 'n' Roll with Me". As a guitar player myself I can say that it, technically, is not complex ... but it's one of the best solos I've ever heard. Sometimes less is more!
      I was curious about your name, so I clicked on it and saw that you have several Tarot card videos. I will check some of those out later tonight when I get home. I'm going through something right now and a few of your video titles already seem perfect for my situation.
      Have a great day!

    • @whitebirchtarot
      @whitebirchtarot ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Zobin211 I love diamond dogs as well - it’s probably my favorite of his albums also. The man who sold the world is a close second though. I also love Aladdin Sane. (Well, this could obviously go on all day!) I don’t think I ever realized that was Bowie on guitar, so I’m gonna have a listen so I can really enjoy it. Glad you found my channel and good to meet you!

    • @whitebirchtarot

      @@Zobin211 P. S. I love the song We Are the Dead. It’s even more brilliant now than it was all those years ago.

    • @Zobin211
      @Zobin211 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@whitebirchtarot "We Are The Dead" is one of my all-time favorites and an utterly unique song in Bowie's canon. The only song from the album that was not played live on his Diamond Dogs tour.
      I played basketball in grade school, and I would listen to "We Are the Dead" before going to my games and have it running through my head the entire time. You can only imagine the affect it had on my play! :)
      I break-down Bowie albums like this ... Greatest. Best. Favorite.
      For me, there is a distinction between "greatest" and "best". Greatest, to me, involves more than the actual songs and includes the impact that the album had on the artist's career. "Ziggy Stardust" is Bowie's "greatest" album because it blasted his career off into space and it allowed him to really get his career going on his terms.
      "Aladdin Sane" in my view is his "best" album. "Lady Grinning Soul" and "Cracked Actor" on the same LP? Are you kidding me? The depth and breadth of that album gives goosebumps just thinking about it.
      And then personal favorite is whatever you want it to be. "Diamond Dogs" is that album for me, but there are many others that are right up there including "The Man Who Sold the World", "Hunky Dory", "Station to Station", "Low", "Heroes", "Lodger", "Outside" and, remarkably, "Never Let Me Down" ... which, trust me, is a VERY long and strange story. At the core of it is that that album has been so reviled by most Bowie fans that it was a certainty that I would embrace it as I am a sucker for the underdog, or under-album, in this case.
      Now, as far as songs ... what would be some of your favorites?
      I always list "Sweet Thing" as #1, but I would have "Lady Grinning Soul", and "Weeping Wall" right up there ... and so many others.
      This will sound strange, but have you ever done a Tarot card reading of Bowie's albums or songs? I have no idea how that would work, but I would love to see what you would come up with.

    Saw him in concert and have many of his records but Barabajagal was his last good album and after that he went downhill quickly. These songs just don't rise to the level of his classics in his younger years and not surprisingly, the later albums never even charted.

    Hi! Can someone help me finding a Donovan's lost radio session tape that was here on y.t? I can’t remember the name of the radio station. It was recorded in real time and you can hear a false start of a song because he started it in the wrong tune…can’t remember which one…It was great and Donovan played songs such as: Josie, Catch the wind, Colours, To sing for you, Why do you treat me like you do…I think it was recorder on 1965/1966 or earlier. I think it has been removed from y.t.. I’d like to know if there’s a way to have that record.Thanks so much!
