Most underrated singer songwriter of his generation. Way ahead of of his time.

Bob Dylan, ask Donovan to sing some of his songs also. For some reason Bob just didnt think his voice would sound right & fit them. Its true.Donovan did write & sing most of his own tho.Its just him & Bob were really good friends so Donovan looked at it as favors. Bob still got all the credit & money, which was kool with Donovan. He was like a younger brother to Bob,they were tight!❤

I do notice that 'More & More' AN AWFUL lot of kids & teens Are running into what they're calling 'RETRO'! Which is really just like 70s,80,s 90,s exc the REAL music my generation grew up on,ya know....I'm soooo freakin glad, cause now they have a chance to hear what REAL MUSIC actually sounds like, thank god.I truly believe we had the absolute, hands down Best!!! I have a nice collection of All vinyl Albums of all the best.Theyve proved that no one has EVER been able to duplicate(where it sounds just as good,or the same)as the original vinyl albums or records,Ever!!! I'm never selling or givin them away,to nobody.Except my son when I pass on to the new world. He understands there true value and promises to keep them! They sound as good now,as they ever did,on my collectors stereo with diamond head needle!!!❤

I don’t think he’s underrated at all. His contributions have been well recognized. He had huge hits in the Sixties. Future generations will continue to mine the musical treasure trove that is Donovan’s legacy.

Oh Absolutely!!! Gordon Lightfoot had one of the most 'Timeless' voices of all time.Along with Donavan.Gordon's voice always sounded(to me)like he was from a time 'Long ago' almost like he was a time traveler.Soooo happy to have grown up listening to him!!!❤

Can any music like this get on today's radio? Have we fallen this far from freedom?

    • @rosettadeters8589
      @rosettadeters8589 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

The Answer is YES! But the music on the radio stations falls 'Directly' on the shoulders of the owners of All the stations('Clear Channel,Communications)they simply sell all air time to the highest bidder! No matter how horrible it is,like hip hop or rap crap(garbage)that's Evil and about Hate and totally disrespecting All women,in sooooo many ways! It should All be Illegal.Theyre to lazy to learn to play ANY instrument,or learn to sing, especially in correct grammer. They string 2 or 3 rhyming words together, then holler them at such fake terrible beat. And that justify gettin they're foot in the so-called music industry! Radio is Dead....the best you can do is look for as much 'Retro' that you can,go to oldies festivals,or look hard for as many old vinyl records you can get your hands on!That's the awful reality.....🤷‍♀️

He was a global superstar who sold out in hours every concert he ever performed. I saw Donovan in concert at Carnegie Hall in New York City in the 1980s. He was on the bill with Loudon Wainwright III.

I also truly enjoy 'all & any' original music. And just LOVE it when I can hear them! I do however believe. (unlike they use to) most radio stations dont give them 'Fair' air time! Before he died Don Henley of the eagles was spear-heading a really good suit against many of them(him & lots of others from many good musicians) unfortunately Don died before it came to pass..sadly 😥

Man,I was truly blessed.I went to public junior high school.Well in 8th grade I met a new girl(turned out to be besties)her father happed to be the promoter, who brought All the new bands to our Stadium! He'd give her our tickets & a bunch more to give out(to get word out they were comin)this was like 1973. Best years of my life! I saw every group that came to 'Cincinnati'! FOR FREE,plus backstage passes,😄👍! For that whole year, every weekend! It sucked that as a promoter, his company moved him to a new city, every year! But man,I swear I had the best year of my life. Even so,back then the floor tickets only ran like $7 or $8 dollars, and who stayed on the floor anyway,ha,ha. Needless to say,by time I got in high school, terribly 'The Who concert happened,😰! I rarely went till they built the 'Collisium' and I was older. I will ALWAYS have the memories of 1973 & part of 1974!!!!! Sooooo glad I do,❤

I am 80 next January and I turned 15 in 1960..There were many many great performers in late fifties when r&r was coming in strong. You imho should include the time lines to include that while you are at it. The 60's were my wheelhouse. Music rock and roll, girls, first car (s)
motown and did I say girls? And yes Donovan was great.

You've got that right! Nowadays with this stupid hip-hop & rap crap. All the new generations are being totally cheated outta real music.I also loved R&B,Blues, many black groups. Now these new kids just string together 2 or 3 words that rhyme and shout to an awful (fake)beat, and its accepted as so-called music,🤷‍♀️what the f#@k.Thats how they get they're foot in the music industry door, they're to lazy to learn to play instruments or learn to sing correctly!!! I just dont get it,its all such a RIP OFF, to the younger generation.I play THE real music to my grandkids & they just LOVE it,soooo much better! And none of it disrespects women in ANY way.As far as I'm concerned real music slowed waaayyy down in the 90,s ; THEN STOPPED!!!!

I've been going to Donovan concerts since the early 1970's, when I was still in high school. I last saw him in a intimate concert setting in a smallish venue in Monterey, California. The theater had a light perfume wafting through the indoor theatre in downtown Monterey. That was around 2010.
Was lucky to meet him once when he played at a small book shop in West Hollywood. He was there to introduce his new Sutras album (that had just been released), in the book shop. Just a short concert, maybe 1/2 hour or 45 minutes at the most. I had Donovan sign my poster I had brought with me from the HMS vinyl album, after the concert. Then saw him in other concerts over the years, all in California.
Oh yes, also saw Donovan at the Viper Room club in West Hollywood. I know the book store closed many years ago, not sure about the Viper Room.

I seem to be on a roll here! Last comment and I will leave this page! He seems to be a Bob Dylan type of songster. Thank You all for letting me post my comments. No offense intended to anyone and apologies if I stepped on anyone's toes here.

I know these are all fans to see Donovan at this concert but they ars kind of
rowdy and boisterous. I have seen Donovan many times over the years in different venues but audiences were not loud or shouting out requests.
More polite then this audience I'd have to say. Concerts were all in USA that I attended and not in Vienna.

Hi! Can someone help me finding a Donovan's lost radio session tape that was here on y.t? I can’t remember the name of the radio station. It was recorded in real time and you can hear a false start of a song because he started it in the wrong tune…can’t remember which one…It was great and Donovan played songs such as: Josie, Catch the wind, Colours, To sing for you, Why do you treat me like you do…I think it was recorder on 1965/1966 or earlier. I think it has been removed from y.t.. I’d like to know if there’s a way to have that record. Thanks so much!

He's definately One of the underrated singers for sure. But there definitely alot more.Especially nowadays, when you cant hear them much!(and certainly not on the ( so-called radio stations) Theyve sold out to the highest bidder for air time. Its no longer the best performers or who had the most record sales....Now they only play garbage( hip hop& rap crap) by non-performers!!!!😡
