Even my Gen 2 started having some reliability issues starting at around 10K rounds. Ejection issues and a lot of death jams (doublefeeds that are tightly wedged together). Yes, always new springs in the mags and ILWT recoil springs. I do clean the piston every 3K rounds or so. With my SP5 I use a Leesporting lower that lets me use AR controls with a Giessele trigger. Very. very nice. The SP5 has not had a single failure of any kind. Ever. Never. The MPX is infinitely more consistent to reload quickly on the clock where a second or two makes a huge difference. It does recoil lighter and quicker to me, but the SP5 is no slouch. Last round holdopen doesn't matter to me. I have marked mags downloaded to 25 so I can do closed bolt reloads. While to me the MPX is a riot to shoot out on the range, and is probably faster on a single stage if it runs, the absolute unwavering reliability of the SP5 makes it the one I would use for any major match and is the one that sits next to me here by my desk loaded with G9s for home applications. If you want to quicken the SP5's recoil impulse to match the MPX's, you can make a delrin spacer to fit in the rear of the receiver. This shortens the bolt travel and makes the gun cycle much quicker. I tried it in a select fire MP5 and ROF went up 50%. It made the SMG sound like an MG42 haha

@ Yeah but combat related PTSD comes across and hits different. This isn't blue-haired nose-ringed feminist on 30 medications because of micro-aggression from a stranger 20 years ago PTSD.
I have a Gen 2 MPX 8" with a 4.5" ILWT barrel, Radian charging handle, and a silencer recessed inside the handguard and love that little PCC. I also have an HK SP5 and a CMMG Banshee so I feel I have all my PCC bases covered. I hadn't shot my MPX in a while and just shot it last week. It shoots so soft that I had trouble knowing when the bolt locked back. lol Good timing on the video. @@slittcerslitt-sir7722 Like I said, I have all "my" pcc bases covered. I'd rather build a 6.5 CM bolt gun at this point (which I am) than buy another PCC. I also have about 15 AR15s but don't have a Knights but I think my bases are fairly well covered with my ADMs and LWRCs. 😉YMMV
@@snoop_lion Yes it is! I had a B&T APC9K and sold it for the SP5 when it came out and never looked back. Every collection needs one (or a clone of one).
How does your ILWT barrel group? I have a factory barrel that's also 4.5" and it can barely print 10" at 50 yards. Thinking about getting an ILWT but looking for feedback before I commit
I already did. I bought the 16” PCC but wanted something shorter. This week I SBR’ed it with a 6.5” In Lead We Trust barrel and a 10.5” Midwest Industries handguard. With my Dead Air Wolfman installed it has an overall length of less than 30”. Just waiting for my transfer now for engraving, then a range test.
Genuine question, why would i drop 500$ on a lower? SP5 trigger is fine stock. My only two issues are that grip is too thin (some tenis rocket handle wrap fixed that) and the selector is a tad annoying to operate (something i could fix by just changing the sector lever if it annoyed me enough, which it doesnt).
@@lieutenantcoloneltanyavond8273so you can get the best trigger on the market so you don’t have to tape your grip and so that you can have the best selector on the market you literally just answered your own question
Great breakdown of the Sig MPX! It’s a solid choice for a PCC, but the price and suppressor issues do make you think twice. Between the MPX and MP5, it’s a tough call. Anyone else experience the same challenges with suppressing the MPX?
I suppressed my mpx Silencerco omega 9k. No accuracy issues or failures yet. Probably close to 2k rounds. 147 grain federal fmj and 147 Speer gold dot ammo. Haven’t shot past 100 yards but it’s accurate that far at least.
13k rounds on my gen 2 almost entirely running an omega 9k. I have both sig 4 and 8 in barrels. Everything works. I broke a firing pin around 2300 rounds. Sig sent me an upgraded bcg and firing pin. 9k rounds later and maybe 2 ftf later I couldn’t be happier.
I had one from 7-8 years ago. Something in the bolt broke with less than 1000 rounds. Sig turned it around in less than a week but I sold it right after.
This review is spot on. I have a gen 3 mpx k with the same stock. Out of the box the gun is great and accuracy was not a problem. Added a tri lug adapter and a can and accuracy is out the window. 25 yards I’ll hold a 4-6 inch group. I really want it to work suppressed but don’t want to dump money into it without a for sure solution. This is my second my frustrating gun behind my P320 x carry legion that won’t cycle with a suppressor unless you buy the sig suppressor. Now a days theirs much lighter suppressors that probably work with it.
It’s hard to beat for competition or tactical use. But for the price, I’d love to hear how it compares to other PCC options like the CZ Scorpion or the Ruger PC Carbine.
Got to shoot this at the sig range in NH and it is so fun and easy to shoot. Was also able to use it to teach my fiancé who had never shot before the basic fundamentals of shooting.
Thank you for making this video. I learned several things that I did not know. I have owned an MPX SBR since October of 2016. I don’t know why, but it is one of my most treasured guns despite being one of my least used. My MPX is a Gen 2 with the 8” barrel. I am encouraged by the fact that you were able to get an 8” barrel from Sig. Sig has said that they aren’t going to make anymore 8” barreled MPXs, so I had some concern that if something happened to mine whether or not I would be able to get a new barrel for it. I am at a loss to understand why Sig gave up the 8” barrel gun and created the MPX Copperhead, which to me is nothing but a gimmick gun. It serves no purpose that can’t be better filled with the MPX-K or a good pistol, depending on what you need the gun to do. To me it is a stupid gun. The 13.5x1mm left-handed thread pitch is a European thing. If you can get your hands on a German H&K MP5 and you remove the three-lug adapter I am pretty sure you will find that it has a 13.5x1mm left-handed thread pitch. The new versions of the MPX do have the ½”x28 right-handed thread pitch. You mentioned the trigger. My Gen 2 had a horrible trigger. It felt like a 12 lbs New York Glock Trigger. I am currently running a TriggerTech drop-in Adaptable 3.5 to 6 lbs flat face trigger and it is awesome. Concerning the charging handle, I went with the Geissele Super charging handle. You definitely need to clean the piston. If you shoot more than about 100 rds with it suppressed it is going to fail and getting the piston out to clean it is a real pain. You are correct about it not being a good gun to run suppressed. I occasionally run mine suppressed and it gets really dirty quickly. Furthermore, you are definitely going to have a point of impact shift in a different direction every time you put the suppressor on with a three-lug mount. Again, thank you for the video. It was extremely informative.
yeah i have no idea why they mostly discontinued the 8" models, stupid decision on their part. i'm assuming of the SBR/pistol variants it probably sold the least but still! at least the barrel and handguard are super easy to change out and plenty of aftermarket options available for both.
Become a Chad, get your own MPX today. In all seriousness its my favorite gun I own, here is my build. 8" barrel, Timmney flat face trigger, Trijicon MRO, NLA ambi charging handle, Surefire light with the pad and a SB Tactical telescoping brace.
Numerous issues with MPXk factory Tim trigger model. Started with light primer strikes followed by Firing pin failure. Fit and finish is garbage. Lower receiver was replaced by Sig after initial purchase. The finish doesn’t hold up after minimal handling at range benches and travel. Currently in a shipping box and headed back to Sig for failure to fire. Not to mention accuracy Is horrendous compared to my scorpion k and APC9k. Buy something else’s if you’re looking. Thrill mags are definitely better than the lancers but the whole system sucks compared to equally priced 9mm PCCs.
I agree with the cheap finish. You look at this thing wrong and it has a blemish. I have a gen 3 and it had random feed issues for the first 200 rounds but runs like a sewing machine after that. It's always been very accurate and has become my favorite gun. The factory charging handle is trash and it should have been better for the asking price. The upper and lower fitment is not tight but is a non issue unless you run a laser like GT mentioned.
I love my MPX Competition 16" barrel. Only FMJ projectiles, no coated bullets. Clean gas tappet every 1000 rounds, and I prefer the +25% springs from ILWT. Runs great! Change both overhead action springs for bolt carrier group every 8k rounds. My MPX is just over 18,000 rounds.
This is definitely my favorite channel on the youtubes. I dont miss Charles or weird al's kid. John is a great addition and the current camera dude is seamless. Nice work fellas.
Have an MPX, my only complaint is that when you put on the shorter barrels, it doesn't play well with suppressors. Groups turn into shotgun patterns with certain cans. Doesn't seem to be an issue wit the 8" barrel though.
@@dennylemieux5910 If you buy the barrels without the adjustable gas block, they won't cycle typical subsonic loads. The gas port is too small. Couldn't cycle loads the same length factory barrel could. He said he did that so that it wouldn't damage the gun with hot ammo. The text that explained port size that was burrier on the product page at the time of my purchase. It didn't explicitly say it wouldn't work with subs, it just listed the port sizes. Seriously, who is buying a barrel with tri-lug and 1/2-28 thread that wouldn't want to run subs? All that was needed to fix this was to enlarge the gas port. He wanted to charge me $60 (on top of the $500 already paid for the barrel - 2 days after the purchase) to do that. I said it should be done for free since it's absurd this wasn't highlighted. He said the customer is just supposed to know the implication of the various port sizes. He refused to fix it without charging $60 and wouldn't take the barrel a return. I just mailed the barrel back to him and had my CC company reverse the charge. He put all of the gas port info at the beginning of the page afterwards (anyone with a brain would updated further with big red text that says "this barrel won't work with subsonic loads"). He isn't very bright business-wise and provides dog shit customer service if something is wrong. So, roll the dice and pray that your barrel works perfectly if you order one without the adjustable gas block.
My Gen 2 MPX K is my favorite gun to shoot suppressed. Im running an OCL Lithium on a Rearden Atlas, and have had zero issues with accuracy or overgassing. The pnly drawback of the platform is how dirty it gets after a few hundred rounds: it absolutely needs regular lube if you’re putting a ton of rounds through it or you will get FTE/FTF malfunctions once the internals get caked in carbon.
I wish Sig sold the MPX with an 8" barrel from the factory. I have been shooting my MPX-K in PCC division for several years. I prefer the 8" barrel for more dwell time using light competition loads and more hand space on the rail. Great video!
Damn, there’s a lot of hate for Sig in these comments. I think they make some good stuff. I own a P238 SAS, an M11-A1, and a P210 Target, and they’re all really nice guns that function well.
Their new polymer pistols have had countless safety issues and sig repetitively lies and say that its not true, this does not denounce the fact that they have made good guns in the past
@@slick4415 Ahh, ok that explains the critical opinions. I don’t really follow gun news so I wasn’t aware. Plus my Sig guns aren’t particularly new offerings and are also all-metal as well, so I haven’t had any experience with both their latest products or the polymer stuff.
@@jimmylarge1148 I originally wanted the standard version, but the price put me off. I hesitated, and then they went and discontinued it. Got the Target model so I could at least own one. It’s really nice though, so no regrets.
I bought the second Gen. it failed. The tip of the firing pin broke off at the range. It took FOREVER for SIG to get me the replacement parts. My PSA ARV has performed flawlessly with no breakdowns.
I have had my gen 2 for 8 years. Originally a carbine, I had the barrel cut to 6.5 inches and threaded in the proper direction. No issues running a Dead Air Wolfman, and the Geissele trigger and Radian Raptor result in a great, flat shooting system. Any lack of accuracy I attribute to myself.
Love the mp5 and loved using in service, but too long to reload in a CQB quick response team scenario. Rack, lock, drop, insert, slap Vs Drop, insert, press bolt release
You know, I would have bought SIG products before, but as of recently, I learned of all the things SIG has done and while I enjoyed the video a lot, I don't think I could buy a SIG product in good consciousness. Before, I thought they were a company that had minor hiccups with products like other companies, but then I learned it was so. much. worse.
My mpx was horrible. Literally the worst gun I’ve ever owned. It was also one of the first “expensive” gun purchases I ever made. Probably 6 years ago maybe more it was a gen 1.5 supposedly. Sold it and bought a mp5 I now have 4 mp5s zero mpx. I did all the research was sold on it and sold on the caliber changes that Sig never followed through with. And the gun just didn’t run. I sent it to Sig multiple times with no success. Basically to make them reliable you have to buy a whole bunch of parts from ILWT especially if your gonna run a suppressor. Spend almost the cost of the gun again. I wasn’t happy. The mcx however is a gem the mpx save your Pennies.
Nice firearm no doubt. I have 2 palmetto 9mm ars. 10k rounds between the 2. Never one malfunction. I did replace some minor parts and tune the with quarters. Yes quarters. An ar buffer tube takes quarters.
I was at the range in Colorado today in 20 degree temps. Shooting with 3 other shooters all of us running PCCs. An Mp5, a CMMG Banshee, and two 9mm MPX PCCs. Not only did the MPX continuously have failures, but so did the Sig pistols on the range. MP5 and banshee and Glocks… zero failures. They were shooting S&B, Winchester, and Blazer brass in 115, 124, 140, and 147 grain. I think these guys were using aftermarket parts in their MPXs, but I was still shocked that all the Sig pistols and these PCCs had so many problems. I know it is a sample size of one, but I was underwhelmed by Sig products.
Im a sig hater after spend huge sums of money and getting piss poor QC products and customer service. My RDS damages the rail, my MCX took 800 rounds to break in and lock open on empty mag, its gassy as hell with a traditional style .30 cal can.... its heavy af, barrel can flex... oh what else... I saw a police shooting where 3-4 mcx rifles went out of service once they got into a gunfight with a cartel member using a FA ump.... Dont get me started on their pistols.... I DONT trust a sig product anymore!
The American: Buys a gun and bevor taking it to the Range, replaces EVERY original Part by 3rd Manufactereur „tuning“ Parts and then says: Gun ist not working.
I've never had any issues with all of my SIG pistols and rifles. Thousands of rounds over 20 years. P226, P229, P239, 522LR, and 5.56 Tread. Maybe your friends don't know how to choose/clean/fire/lubricate their guns.

I dont think you can buy anything Sig after seeing the interview tfbtv did with the ceo. When asked what he thought of people saying that they test their new products on buyers, he effectively said that's a risk they should take when buying "operator level" products. That being said, i do want a p226 elite. Or the p210. But that's it
I just picked up a Ronin Arms Integrally suppressed MPX and it is the most fun and quiet gun I have (next to subsonic 22lr). All I shoot is standard 115 grain ammo and it is unbelievably quiet because @roninarms conversion/ported barrel makes it all Subsonic ! Very Accurate and the gen 3 trigger is absolutely magical. Thanks for your content. Glad to hear harsh criticism and honest reviews. The Ronin Arms MPX-SD is worth every penny!
Is there even a guarantee that sig is going to support the MPX a day after this video? Doesn't matter how good the gun is, if you can't even get basic survival parts its a moot point. (Looking at you too CZ)

With the new mag pouches and plate carrier from your Daddy Haley, a new generation of belts with the Ferro concepts Bison and GBRS belts, the Blue Force gear CHLK/GRID and the Axl Eclipse belt, DM Mech belt and HRT ARC belt, the market has changed a lot since your old reviews. Also plate carriers from DFNDR to Agilite, UHMWPE plates from Dayton to ShotStop Duritium, even helmets like the new Avon ULW and Ceradyne IHPS. Pants and combat tops by UF Pro vs Crye, shooting glasses by Oakley vs Gatorz vs HuntersHD.
Got rid of it. Had one of the first ones and had feeding issues from their overpriced mags. Learned my lesson to never buy anything first version from Sig. And that is for multiple Sig platforms owned. No more sig for me or others that I know.
I bought an early gen 2 one. Still had too many quirks and issues. Still way overgassed. Lots of nice PCC options out there now that won't gas you out and cost similar or less. And sig has done like 5 different silent revisions of the gen2, so replacement parts are annoying to find. Definitely would not recommend.
This video brought back memories. Counting rounds, trigger pins walking, broken charging handles, and a non adjustable blood pressure cuff brace.😂 2015 mpx was an interesting firearm. The trigger pins would walk and it would randomly burst 3 or 4 rounds. I ended up selling it and buying a scorpion and the scorpion is boring. It fires when you pull the trigger.
How many parts are made in india, china, and isreal on that thing? Didn't they get busted for violations of ITAR by giving china files on the mpx? SIG is being investigated by every federal agency for violations of damn near everything including overcharging for their weapons
Good to see some PCC stuff again. I think they’re fun. I have a form 1 can for my scorpion I made a while back. And I reload. It’s a blast with the 147gr. As low as 900 fps no problem
I purchased my MPX new and it came with a broken timney trigger. Gun dry fired fine, but the trigger would randomly lock and not unlock unless you took out the whole cassette. Called sig about it, told them the issue, and was informed I would have to pay for a warranty since I rockset my ASR mount on it. Fixed it and sold it. Never buying sig products again.

Not only are his military accomplishments jaw dropping, he was raised without a silver spoon in his mouth and came from a lean life in the southern Appalachian mountains where your word is your bond as a man. I am very proud of him.

Always ran it with the vert grip and holosight. Freaking laser beam especially before sig updated the recoil.
Sig has been teasing a 10mm version for several years. But, then again, they also said they were going to make conversions for 357 Sig & 40 S&W.

All that being said, I feel like the SP5 is my favorite to shoot and always a crowd/family favorite at the range.
The sp5 is just too damn iconic, now if only they updated it to have a bolt hold open on last round...id have for sure bought one.
Eh. To say you have your PCC bases covered and not mention the king of all PCCs = JP5

John is awesome, bro. I love the new lineup
MP5 with Lee Sporting Lower is probably the best PCC currently on the market.
they are quite good
@ I’m loving mine!
What's up with it?
Ilwt barrel , qd cat mobster, no accuracy issues at all
This is what I needed. Garrand Thumb starting a video throwing down some serious hate with a bad ass weapon. Love the new slo mo camera.
It's more than twice the value of a Scorpion, makes the Scorpion look like a rough shooting, cheap plastic gun, cuz it is.
I would not put either the scorpion or pc carbine as direct competition with the MPX.
Yes.
And, I’m glad Charlie and Micah are doing well in their new homes. 😊

Just put a minefield around your property and call it a day

I wish they still sold the OG MPX like whats in this video. Now all they make in pistol form is the Copperhead and MPX-K
They also have the copperhead k its a blast to shoot i love it id say its kinda in-between the copperhead and mpx k
They still sell the 8” but it’s LEO model with mlok.
yeah i have no idea why they mostly discontinued the 8" models, stupid decision on their part. i'm assuming of the SBR/pistol variants it probably sold the least but still! at least the barrel and handguard are super easy to change out and plenty of aftermarket options available for both.
@@Fadaar the 8" model is the iconic one that I'd think most people would want.
I bought a mpx in like 2018 and boy I was blown away by the accuracy!

In all seriousness its my favorite gun I own, here is my build. 8" barrel, Timmney flat face trigger, Trijicon MRO, NLA ambi charging handle, Surefire light with the pad and a SB Tactical telescoping brace.
John, the proud boy shirt made my day!
I miss your mom
Shot one a couple years ago, it has incredibly light recoil, can just stack them in one ragged hole.
Have an MPX, my only complaint is that when you put on the shorter barrels, it doesn't play well with suppressors. Groups turn into shotgun patterns with certain cans. Doesn't seem to be an issue wit the 8" barrel though.
I’ve heard the solution is a barrel from In Lead We Trust. Lots of feedback on their site of improved accuracy.
@Yoda052 Tried that, didn't help. And I will never deal with that guy again.

Im 2:45 into the video and I had to pause to come and say John I love the shirt .
You know, I would have bought SIG products before, but as of recently, I learned of all the things SIG has done and while I enjoyed the video a lot, I don't think I could buy a SIG product in good consciousness. Before, I thought they were a company that had minor hiccups with products like other companies, but then I learned it was so. much. worse.
Can someone tell me the exact kind of sig mpx that is ?
I'd love to have the MPX. With a short barrel and suppressor, ideal PDW for my backpack

I have a Gen 3 with 2,500 rds through it. Cleaned 1X. Using it in Eastern Idaho in 20deg temps- no problems. Quite happy with it.
Modern sig is trash

I just picked up a Ronin Arms Integrally suppressed MPX and it is the most fun and quiet gun I have (next to subsonic 22lr). All I shoot is standard 115 grain ammo and it is unbelievably quiet because @roninarms conversion/ported barrel makes it all Subsonic ! Very Accurate and the gen 3 trigger is absolutely magical.

I bought the Beretta apx not long ago and its fantastic. Super quiet suppressed with subs and ergos are fantastic. Best PCC I've tried.
The apx? I thought that was the pistol
