Tomorrow's the last day of my basic BSL course and your videos have been so helpful for me to practice and remind myself between lessons. Especially as I'm in Brighton and you use most of the same signs my teacher uses. Videos like the hearing aid one etc. are really interesting too. Thank you for doing these.

i've been watching a lot of these sign videos recently and one thing I've wondered is; how do you convey sarcasm in sign?

That's a really good question! I find its all in the face. I made a signed song video for Justin Bieber's Love Yourself (th-cam.com/video/97ZO6RgMr4c/w-d-xo.html) which has A LOT of sarcasm so I tried a furrowed brow and head wiggles!

I got super excited seeing that you had one of these videos and then promptly got sad when I realized this is BSL and I'm trying to learn ASL. You're still amazing tho! Very interesting to see the differences, mainly Excited and love (as those are the ones I know)

Why is it every bsl video has different signs for the same words?? The only constant word seems to be (ironically) 'confused'

Each area of Britain has a different way of showing through sign - So the sign for nervous in London can be different to the sign in Manchester or Dorset :D

yeah they seem as varied as accents in spoken language. i guess the thing is that you only need to say one, but you ideally want to understand them all, just like understanding slang and accent words in english even if you never say them.

Hi can you help me..? i cannot find what heirarcial space refers to in BSL, yes I know topograhy and syntactic but not heirarchy??? please help!1 also affirmation and negation language.. does this refer to yes ans no quite simply or is there something more to the language. Thank you sooo much
