5:22 as a teenager who has lived in china for 5 years, having to submit your id and face scan is in part due to chinese kids playing too much, so they passed a law for the “实名认证” system that basically checks if you are 18+ or not. iirc the rule for non 18+ people is that you can play for one hour on friday evening and on holidays. THATS IT. many people bypassed it by simply asking parents to do the submission, or just side loading a game available internationally via a vpn or knowing where to look. also the government is probably using the data for more but whatever
It’s really interesting to see the Chinese versions of games, it’s like looking into an alternate reality. Though looking more into the Chinese version of Minecraft, it seems that Apocalypse Mode is actually from a mod that had a trailer made for it so English-speaking people thought it was official. From what I’ve seen it seems to be mostly similar to our Minecraft except free to play stuff.
Interesting, I saw a lot of different places saying it was a legit feature of Minecraft China so I guess that's on me for not doing better research. I did also read up on a few of the other features like a marketplace for texture packs/game patches, and having ads you could watch for Diamonds/Emeralds (which I assume is like minecoins or some kind of premium currency and not actual in-game items), but I didn't want to dwell too long on it as a passing example.

I assume people just saw the pretty well made trailer for it, assumed it was official since they couldn’t understand it, and the idea that Minecraft in China has an exclusive dimension with it’s own bosses passes around far better than the fact than it just being a mod. TheMisterEpic has a video that seems to be a pretty good breakdown of it.
I agree! One of my favorite games, Terraria, has almost all of its bosses completely redesigned to get passed censors. Some of them actually look very cool, and I wish I could change them to the default...

The marketplace you've mentioned is a microsoft feature itself, meaning it's worldwide, where you can sell maps, skins, texture packs, etc exclusively for minecraft bedrock. As someone who has published work on the minecraft marketplace, it's a money trap for both the consumer and the seller while microsoft enjoys taking their huge cut from each sale (up to 60% cut).

I used to play back in the day and had like 3 shinies of which my first one was a magnemite, and I just couldn’t get the accounts back so when I started a new one a couple of months ago I was expecting at least one… still waiting
The chinese version is what could've been. It makes me want to get back into the game and all but the global release doesn't have the complete pokedex and I don't think that'll be done for the foreseeable future which sucks.
Great to see Quest getting some love!! It was the first Pokémon game for Switch, it deserves it haha hope Pokémon Company see the potential the game has and bring more updates worldwide.. The chinese version looks really cool, loved the special themed Pokémon I'm right now trying to get the shiny starter trio, already got Venusaur and Charizard is next!
Been aware of the Chinese version of Pokémon Quest for quite some time and always been sad we never the expanded version over here, though I understand why it's a shame because I really enjoyed Quest and was hoping they'd do more with it.
Just a heads up, Pokémon from gold pots have a 300 stat boost, whereas Pokémon from the basic pot have no bonus. So using a Pokémon from a gold pot will make the dungeons way easier
I found it interesting that the local Asian grocery had Lego block blind boxes for this game; I have a few of them from there! Never got the Mewtwo one sadly, and they stopped selling them suddenly. Congrats on the wicked shiny though!
An unfortunate but fortunate at the same time of chinese versions of games is they will have some really cool stuff, however there is the issue of just that- can't help but feel sad about that. I enjoyed this video, might just get back into quest as I only got an hour or two into it the first time I played it.
Also can't help but feel weird/wild for the fact that is, those chinese video game companies are not only so big IN china, but they're invested/ own/apart/big investors in other companies and once you realize that you just see it everywhere you go lol
I think "pokemon quest chinese version for the nintendo 3ds" would be my favorite pokemon side game ever. Pokemon rumble world would be a close second though (I wish it had shinys but the 1/1k epic pokemon are cool too)

I started to play again because of this video and got a shiny Abra and Articuno. I really love this game and enjoyed shiny hunting again. I hope that we maybe get a chance to see some new updates and content for the global version. This year is the perfect opportunity to give the game some love especially since no main game is coming in 2024.

i will never forget the moment my stew that was supposed to give a blue pokemon gave me a ditto... and then i remembered what color ditto's shiny was right before seeing it. it was the first shiny i got from quest as well so i was shocked also not sure if the game is that smart about colors or if it was just luck but it was amazing either way

Back when the game released I was completing the Pokédex and some how when I got my first mew it appeared shiny I was extremely happy when I saw that blue cat!!
I would absolutely love Quest to be updated again to add more pokemon, or at least for the art style to be reused in a new game (on the switch 2 perhaps?). It sucks that the potential for what this game could’ve become is locked behind a firewall and that Nintendo shelved it entirely so soon after releasing it, because even though gameplay-wise it’s very lacklustre, being an auto battler and all, it was still super fun to hop on for half an hour or so and play out a few runs in the hopes of finding a shiny or rare pokemon from a dish.

I was gonna download it after seeing this video but found this in an article on a chinese oriented news site. What a shame that only a minority of people got to enjoy it while it was still here ❤
I actually have a pokemon oc based on my quest playthrough so this game has a Special Place in my heart. I haven't managed to beat it yet though because I'm bad at grinding lol

Unfortunately you cannot transfer from Quest to Home so (at least as of now) there is no reliable way to get shiny mew in a mainline game.
I got a shiny level 100 Meowth from cooking in Pokemon Quest and then lost my save because my phone broke and was unrecoverable.

Level 3 Mewtwo is crazy. Possibly the lowest level it can be found anywhere
I'm pretty sure it can go as low as level 1 when making those small meals - just a shame it can't be transferred to Home like that
