Oh wow, that’s my hometown! 😍 I’ve been living in Spain for over a year now so it’s really lovely to see all the familiar places again! Beautiful vlog! ❤️
Janette Marie you have a beautiful hometown! As you can tell from this vlog just one afternoon here and we decided to stay rather than carry on for so many reasons but the main one simply that it’s a great city! So glad you liked the vlog and hope you’re staying safe in Spain! ☺️
Too bad you don’t get to experience everything that this city has to offer due to the lockdown but hopefully you still have fun and find other things to do! Stay safe! ❤️
Kinda wild how Covid locked you in a strange new land but simultaneously so cool that the opportunity arose to just spontaneously start living in a whole different country. What a story to tell, and judging by the rest of your videos you surely made the best of your time in Estonia. Thanks for sharing!
It was so crazy, but at the time we called our embassy and they just said you can stay or come home. We knew in that moment we were standing in a beautiful peaceful country and decided to stay put and explore where we were!
Love Tallinn and if you have to hole up somewhere, why not there. If you run across the Schnitzelhaus (old town) would love to see a pic and see if it's still operating. Ate most of our meals there when we visited a few years back.
Soviets were against religions and destroyed churches (and other religious buildings) so it's definitely not a Soviet style :D Russian style is probably the word you want to use. During Soviet Union times that spesific church was empty and not in use, it was renovated back to old glory after Estonia got independent again.
We just woke up and have not deleted anything. Sometimes TH-cam does it automatically, we’ve had some comments in the past and tried to reply but the comment has gone, it’s annoying when that happens.
The aleksander nevski cathedral was not built in soviet times and is not soviet architecture. It was built 1894-1900 part of Russian Empires russification of thee baltics. Ever since its been a monument of oppression in the eyes of estonian. It was going to be demolished in 1924 but for lack of funds was canceled.
StenKilla we have since spent almost six months in Estonia and know for sure it’s from the Russian Empire as Soviets didn’t allow religion at all... which we knew🙃 we also know that although it still stands and is a striking building, it is not really loved by the locals (understandably)
You must have a pretty special bond to Estonia since you got to live there for so long during the pandemic? 🙂I am a swede thats studying estonianstudies and ive watched all of your videos from Estonia 😇 Edit: Its an orthodox cathedral so there is nothing Soviet about it as religion was banned during the Soviet-era 🙂
We really do love Estonia, it’s a super special place for us and we look forward to coming back to visit again in future. Yes, I think we pinned a comment about the Cathedral as we meant to say ‘Russian’ but said ‘Soviet’ instead even though we know that the Soviet Union were against all religious choices (we visited the Hill of Crosses in Lithuania shortly before this), slip of the tongue. That’s very cool that you’re doing Estonian studies, fascinating place! ☺️
@@TideKnotTravellers Thanks for the response, That's really cool! Do you think you guys could consider living there again? 🙂 As a swede especially, there used to be the phenomenon of the 'estonianswedes' that mostly lived on the islands and cities around Haapsalu. So, i really enjoyed your video from there 😅 I saw that you made videos from eastern Estonia, that you guys visited Narva, but did you managed to pay Sillamäe a visit? Alhough maybe you guys prefered the non-russian influenced parts of Estonia, but Sillamäe is a city i definitely would have liked to visit as well.
4:50 meant to say Russian not Soviet 🤦🏼♀️ we know Soviets were very opposed to religion.

We will take a look and definitely give it a try if it’s open too!

tihk89 yes, we even knew this from visiting other places and knowing religion was oppressed by the Soviets. You’re right, it has a Russian style! 😊
that orthodox church was built in the 1890s.
What's with the deleting posts ?

UK is lost to immigrants now so we need to move as Anglo Saxon to a new place like this
