We just spent two fantastic days in Tartu and we visited Kampus and got the burgers per your recommendation, they were incredible. Thank you so much for the suggestion!
Really fun to watch your unexpected prolonged stay in Estonia. I was born and lived in Tartu my first 20 years. Living in London, UK now for 17 years already. Your travel blog is fun and informative. Keep posting and great adventures to you two. Priit
Thank you so much Priit☺️ Tartu is a little gem, we loved it so much and definitely hope to visit again. We’re so glad you like our country too, although London must have felt so busy in comparison when you first moved there!
Well, it Seems like the list of beautiful & interesting places in Estonia, is endless! Want to visit them all! Loved all the attractive buildings & the ‘frames’ they add, great idea! Places Look so well kept & that cathedral!😲 ‘Resturant paradise’ too! Captured fab sunset as usual! Then National museum & upside down house & lake,Wow! Swing looked fab fun! Kirsty right not to risk it after her fall! Love the bloopers - ‘The Kirstyus’ statue 🤣& almost falling in the fountain 🤣always make us laugh! Great!👍
Good video. Spent a few years living between London and Estonia. Used to often fly from Tallinn to tartu on the old Estonian air. Only 35 mins ,compared to 2hrs30 on bus. I first went to tartu around 2002 .totally modernised since then. Only had around 8 hotels then, only a dozen or so bars with tables and chairs outside. I did prefer it in the old days before they built the shopping centre around 2008. Tartu has a great spirit and is one of the safest city's in the world. I never knew it had a old cathedral till I watched this video. Great memories of a lovely city.
Wow, can imagine without that big shopping centre Tartu would’ve felt very lovely and quaint. We definitely preferred the side after we parked and walked across the river. 😊
I love that they are working to reduce car traffic and improve air quality. I wish more places would do that. The Tartu University has a really high reputation among Universities around the world. Amazing. By the way I really love the music for this video. The horns and percussion has a great vibe. The Tartu Cathedral is lovely. I love the 13th century architecture. I also love the cobblestone streets you are walking along. This is my favorite type of street. I love the way they created the National Estonian Museum. We need reminders of the past even if the past that was painful. It teaches the next generations not to make the same mistakes. It's beautiful. Craig, that swing look like something made for giants. Wow! Safe travels!
Yeh it’s a great future plan they have in place 😊 We love cobbled streets and the fact they turned the airbase into something so positive whilst teaching younger generations of the past. As you say, so important for them to prevent the same from happening again.
13:25 That is the monument to Karl Ernst von Baer, an alumn of and a professor at the Tartu University, the founder of scientific discipline of embryology. As a part of their annual spring reveleries the students ceremonially wash the statue's head with Champagne on the First of May.
It's never too early for wine! Your burgers at lunch looked so delicious...I have never had a salted caramel burger before. I can see the genuine joy in your faces when you talked about lunch. The swing is really cool! Good choice to not try it after the concussion. Hope everything is ok!
Lunch was so good, student places have great lunch spots I guess😅 yeh all good, just slipped and fell down the stairs (from the top🤦🏼♀️) and hit my head on the corner of a wall at the bottom. We took a few days off after being in hospital, but yeh thought a swing might not be best!😬
Ah my home town... As I am living in the UK at the moment, I discovered your videos and they made me really homesick!! Thank you for showing my lovely country in all it's glory. But the questions you had in your video (don't know if someone already commented..). In the city centre, the screen you saw. It's for our annual romantic movie festival TARTUFF. They screen different movies during those days and it's free to attend. And the place where you had your lunch...All together it's called Kampus but it consists of three different restaurants - Kauss (a poke place), Uulits (a burger place) and Peakoka nurk.
Thank you, we’re so pleased you like them! We really want to visit Tartu again and spend a little more time seeing some things we missed, we didn’t realise there were 3 restaurants in one place, makes sense now 😊
There is so much to do in Tartu! Did you say burger with salted caramel?! That is my kind of burger 😆 I really like that the city has some great goals to work toward in the future. The Estonia National Museum building is quite impressive. I enjoyed seeing the drone footage and hearing about the history.
Explorcation yes that burger was so so good! We love the cities plans to reduce car emissions, seeing and hearing things like this as we travel gives us hope for the planet 🌍
Tartu has been destroyed, almost razed to the ground so many times. Yet it has always managed to resurrect itself. I have known many friendships in this city, for which I am forever grateful.
Love the sculpture of kissing students! The sweet potato fries are my favorite, seems like you enjoyed with the burger. Tartu Cathedral is looking magnificent and impressive, great drone shots as always! There are many upside down houses in Turkey too!
Yeh we feel like upside down houses started popping up everywhere the last few years. We have one near us back in England too. Still haven’t been inside one though😄
Since Tartu is a university town it gets a lot busier in September, at least on normal years :) Summer is rather quiet in Tartu since it isn't a very popular tourist destination, at least compared to Tallinn, and most students leave town for Summer. Edit: you mentioned that later in the video :)
I don't agree with you. Tartu was a quiet place in the summer 15 years ago, but not anymore. Tartu is full of events in the summer, I will give some examples. Rally Estonia brings 50,000 people to Tartu and southern Estonia. Last summer, Metallica brought more than 60,000 people here, and the Tartu Hanseatic Days bring thousands of people to the Old Town every July! Tartu Love Film Festival, Emajõe Days and so on, I could continue this list for a long time :)
@@armanduibos3195 think it was just quiet the weekend we visited back in August as that was when a ‘spike’ in Covid cases got reported in Tartu so it went a little quiet but even then it got busier due to the festival in the square😊
Tartu looks incredible and the way you captured your experience, we felt we were with you every step of the way. Those burgers looked sooooo good and we could see how you were both so excited to get tucked in, so glad they lived up to your expectations. Its fantastic to hear what they are hoping to achieve by 2024, as it would be great if more countries and cities were trying to achieve the same. It looked like Craig had a blast on the swing and the smile said it all. Keep safe guys and enjoy every moment. ONE LOVE
Such a charming city, but seems to have plenty of modern shops. Those fries looked perfect! The cathedral looks stunning and so historic. Looks like a great city to explore by foot. That sunset you caught was lovely and I thought it was too funny that Craig was embracing his inner child on the swing.
Such a great video ❤️. Absolutely loved your narrative you guys have an excellent voice which makes this Vlog extra fun😀. Keep it up guys, well done👍🏻.
You guys always do such a good job sharing history and information about the places you visit and stop by :) love the national museum it looks so long and sleek. Great drone shots. Also, we love biking and could easily get behind the idea or reducing traffic and air pollution. Seems like they set up more realistic expectations with the timeframe for success. Cool cathedral and center of town too
Tartu got city rights in the middle of 13th century, but it was totally destroyed after Russia conquered it from Sweden in the Great Northern War, in 1704. According to the treaty Russia had with their ally, Poland, these areas were meant to go to Poland after the war. As Russia always had interesting relations with their allies, they were blowing up every building in the city, and all the remaining citizens of Tartu were deported to Russia. Later, as Sweden managed to knock Poland out from the war, Russia succeeded to keep the territory, but they introduced a ban to build any stone houses except in the new capital, St. Petersburg, and so, Tartu was rebuilt as a wooden town, and most of the town burnt in 1775. As the result, very few buildings are older than that, and from the medieval times, only the churches, and some fragments of city walls remained.
The best restaurant in town is Balkan. Truly lovely food all cooked fresh. Highly recommend. Good service and friendly staff. Thank you Balkan friends! 👌❤🍀💯
Tartu has also two wery distinct boroughs with very distinct identities: Karlova to the East may look a lot like Kalamaja in Tallinn but it is far grander with its Art Nouveau, Art Deco and Functionalist wooden and stone buildings. Supilinn in the West side is something entirely different. Until the end of the 1990s it was considered to be the working class slum of Tartu. With the street names like Potato Street, Pea Street, Melon Street and Bean Street it really makes up the Soup City as its Estonian name suggest. Now, however, it is becoming more and more gentrified.
Tartu looks awesome! The burger looks amazing, I love sweet potato fries 😊 epic drone shots! Also love the swing 😁 A spike in Covid cases...but only 6 new cases 🙈 we still have over a thousand cases every day ☹️ nice that the city was so quiet though!
The food and swing were definitely highlights for Craig😅 when we hear there’s a spike in cases in Estonia we tend to know that the word ‘spike’ is all relevant to the number of people, smaller population = smaller number infected so a ‘spike’ is not so scary especially as everyone gives you space here compared with other places around the world.
Nice video you two! We love hearing that they are trying to improve air quality and general global impact ☺️ that makes me happy. The yellow frame for pics was cute and your lunch looked great! I’ve never heard of a salted Carmel burger - would love to try that 😍

We went inside a few days later to enjoy the history without focusing on videoing and carrying all our equipment around a museum is exhausting especially as we’d already filmed it here☺️
@@TideKnotTravellers I see. I hope you liked it there. My personal favourite is the portion called the Uralic Echoes. It's about Finno-Ugric indigenous peoples.
Rainer Vilumaa we absolutely loved it, we did a tiny bit of filming but only with our phones so it only made it to Instagram (footage quality isn’t quite good enough for the final video cut😉) we switched off and enjoyed our day there.
I have lived in Bournemouth for 3 years, but I’m Estonian. I love to see you two in my hometown and how much you loved it. So cool video and so well done! All the best for you two! 🙏❤️
19:50 A swing like that is known as a "village swing". Every major village or settlement had one. Young people from around the rural area met there, so-called swing songs were sung and the first romantic liaisons formed.
Well, you went over the Angel's Bridge but it seems you missed the opposite one- Devil's Bridge, didn't you?Might be becouse you thought that it was too early for wine?😉🍷
I have fallen in love with you guys! You two are Super cute. I couldn't stop smiling when I was watching your video. Right now also I am in the middle of watching your vlog, but couldn't wait to write to you, hence, I have paused the video to comment. The smile is still there!! Keep vlogging!
Brad Grassforest yes we extended our stay in Tartu and spent hours inside the museum, the history of the building and the museum itself was fascinating!
Uni Tartu is my alma mater :) As a proud Tallinner myself, I never understood the "beef" between Tallinn and Tartu (one being full of posh pr*cks and another on being a countryside village haha). I spent some of my best years while studying in Tartu and that's why I really appreciate the video. Best of luck in Greece guys :) !
We didn’t realise there was ‘beef’ between the two cities, but it makes sense, happens everywhere with people having links and preferences to their city. We’re glad to have brought back some memories for you, Tartu must’ve been a great place to be a student🙂
We went to a few vegan/veggie vendors inside the Balti Jaam and also a vegan street food van in Telliskivi. My favourite vegan food place in Tallinn was Vegan Inspiratioon in the Old Town on Lai street. Did see another place too but didn’t manage to get there, yet! 🙂
Oh wow, that’s a big question. There is a huge difference between each and each has such an intricate/heartbreaking history. Russia is an intriguing place and we loved getting to know some locals there, the people are lovely but the country’s history/politics is well... not so lovely! Lithuania was such a sweet little country and although there is less money there, the architecture and pride in their country really shows, same for Latvia and the nature in all the Baltic states amazed us. Estonia feels like a real mix between a Baltic state and a Scandinavian country which makes it a very unique place, it’s part of it’s charm mixed with it’s own fascinating history and medieval old town. That’s the shortest version answer😅
Thank you, we are always tweaking the volume in our videos (this one is an earlier video) may I ask which device you watched it on as it can sometimes sound ok on say a smartphone but not on a TV.
Burgers? is there no Estonian food available that you could share as evidence of Estonian food culture? Sad. I think its a generational thing! I will be travelling to Estonia soon and I wont be eating McDonalds, drinking Starbucks or eating Dunkin Donuts. Eating local cuisine to experience the local culture is a part of "being" there and "experiencing" why I travel.
I understand where you’re coming from but after 6 months in Estonia we have tried plenty, however it is difficult as most Estonian dishes are meat based and one of us is vegetarian so to find a place that offers vegetarian food is great! You’re right you won’t be eating or drinking at Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts anywhere in Estonia because they aren’t there. There is a McDonald’s in Tallinn but we never went there because there was no vegetarian option there and Tallinn is full of great food spots too, enjoy! Head to Telliskivi for some great local cuisine, we have a video showing all the lovely street food there.

I have lived in Bournemouth for 3 years, but I’m Estonian. I love to see you two in my hometown and how much you loved it. So cool video and so well done! All the best for you two! 🙏❤️
Thank you so much! We loved Tartu😊 Bournemouth is a lovely place too!
I have lived in Eastbourne Sussex for three weeks. ☺
19:50 A swing like that is known as a "village swing". Every major village or settlement had one. Young people from around the rural area met there, so-called swing songs were sung and the first romantic liaisons formed.
They sound as romantic and fun as they look 😊

I like what you do!!
Thank you 😊
I am from Tartu and very proud of the fact 🙂
It is a really cool city, we really want to visit in the winter to see the square covered in ice!
Well, you went over the Angel's Bridge but it seems you missed the opposite one- Devil's Bridge, didn't you?Might be becouse you thought that it was too early for wine?😉🍷
Yes, only made it over the angels bridge, next time we’ll have to drink wine and head over the devils bridge too!😄🍷😈
I have fallen in love with you guys! You two are Super cute. I couldn't stop smiling when I was watching your video. Right now also I am in the middle of watching your vlog, but couldn't wait to write to you, hence, I have paused the video to comment. The smile is still there!! Keep vlogging!
Thank you so much! 😊 it’s lovely to know our adventures make people smile! Thank you for watching☺️
Did you visit the museum ? It's amazing inside and I hate museums usually
Brad Grassforest yes we extended our stay in Tartu and spent hours inside the museum, the history of the building and the museum itself was fascinating!
Fantastic :) but I want to see more food there heheh please share more videos
Thank you☺ we have lots more videos to come!
@@TideKnotTravellers me waiting :) thank you :)
This is only the second of your videos I’ve watched, but I really appreciate your great videography. Beautiful work. I’m a new fan. Thanks
Thanks for watching! 😊
hello i live in estonia go to the AHHAA center and back to the house in Tartu
These places are very intense
Uni Tartu is my alma mater :) As a proud Tallinner myself, I never understood the "beef" between Tallinn and Tartu (one being full of posh pr*cks and another on being a countryside village haha). I spent some of my best years while studying in Tartu and that's why I really appreciate the video. Best of luck in Greece guys :) !
We didn’t realise there was ‘beef’ between the two cities, but it makes sense, happens everywhere with people having links and preferences to their city. We’re glad to have brought back some memories for you, Tartu must’ve been a great place to be a student🙂
7:50 Are you guys sure you didn't have any wine? It must be 6 o'clock somewhere.
😄
The National Geographic frames are mostly in Southeastern Estonia.
You’re right, in fact they all are, all 21 of them☺️
I CANT FIND YOU....WHERE ARE YOU NOW 2023.
We filmed this video (Tartu) in 2020. You can follow where we are more closely on Instagram as we update it faster than we can edit content for YT 😊
Kirsty, have you been to the Vegan restaurant in Tallinn? I think you might have liked it.
@@TideKnotTravellers there's also a nice little place called V on Rataskaevu, 12 (that's in the Old Town as well).

Al Ex will have to head there next time!😋
I hope behaved well that's my home city.
We had a lovely time visiting your home city ☺️
Such a nice couple. Are you guys British?
Thank you, yes we are British.
Somehow I think you really mean "Tied Knot Travellers".
It is ‘Tide’ because we love the sea and tied the knot on the beach ☺️
What's the difference between Estonia and its neihgbours Latvia, Lithuania and Russia? What do you feel about it?
Where are the people?
hello 👋
Hi! 👋🏼
@@TideKnotTravellers 😍😍😍🙅
Hi I'm Estonia work parmit konfam I'm finger konfam I'm go to tallin
Annoying music inbetween, louder than other ambience/speech. Other than that good video!
