    The irony of saying Santa Claus is fake as a kid just to convert to Orthodoxy as an adult and asking Saint Nicholas to intercede on my behalf. 😂

      See I was a pagan when i left protestantism, so I never quite said as much, but coming full circle to orthodoxy has actually kinda.... pulled the whole holiday season together for me.

    my daughter is now getting old enough to start asking what this Santa business is. We've taken to explaining that Saint Nicholas was so generous that, every year, people dress up and give gifts in honor of him, and that "Santa" is what we call someone who does that. Here's hoping that, as she gets older, we can help her differentiate between the Wonderworker and The Santa Clause without too much frustration.

      I believe Santa in northern Europe means saint. Claus is short for Nicholas (Niclause)

    In Serbia, I think we are very fortunate that more than half of us have him as our patron saint. Though, we ought to know him better, honestly. Especially us younger people.

    Amen! The number three seems to surround St Nicholas... 3 women, 3 bags of gold and 3 marriages. Seems fitting for the Saint who defended the orthodox faith and confession that there is one undivided God in three persons: Father, +Son, and Holy Spirit.

    I would like to know how this real, historical middle-eastern Bishop morphed into the mythological, fantasy figure we have today, from the Arctic and riding a sleigh pulled by flying reindeer. The real Nicholas is unlikely to have known that the Arctic region exists and he would never have seen a reindeer, not even the normal non-flying variety.
    One version of the story you mentioned when he rescued a family from slavery was that he threw a bag of gold coins down their chimney and that they were caught in a stocking hung in front of the fire to dry. This explains the connection with chimneys and stockings, and also the tradition of giving bags of [fake] gold coins at Christmas. Probably many of those reading this will have either given or received a bag of chocolate coins covered in gold coloured foil at Christmas.

    A slap can be way more forceful, over a wider area, and cause more pain than a punch.

    • @Belive7heHype
      @Belive7heHype ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unless you slapping them as hard as slap boxing usually slaps will generate much less force

    It’s interesting that the term Xmas actually has links to the Chi Ro symbol which means Christ the ever living King so a lot more religious than most people realise.

    In Scandinavia we don't have Santa we have Jultomten, he is based on Oden and the mythical creatures name Tomtar

    • @Patristix
      @Patristix  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Tomtar are interesting little fellows! There's a similar version in Slavic countries but they all get names for where they happen to live. "Domovoi" is the one that lives in the house (dom=house). Like the Tomte they also vary in whether they are good or mischievous.

      @alanhope8971 I agree I am wrong, I know I said that wrong. Its The One True Holy Apostolic Catholic Church.* And of course I quicklyy learnt that Patristix is an Orthodox TH-camr lol. Truth is Only Christ, as you know of course. Just worded that way because of reasons as you may know but not on yt. I am still wrong but hope you know my intentions although no better.
