7 for when you have a player that should be in a different occupation. Basically, the team captain / coach didn't do their job appropriately and everyone suffers because one guy couldn't control his emotions.
Technically its both a 2 minute and a 5 minute penalty combined. Granted Ive never seen only one player get awarded a fighting major, especially when he didn’t drop the gloves. Kneeing is the act of a player making contact with an opponent where the knee is the principle point of contact. This may take the form of a player making contact with an opponent’s knee on an otherwise legal hit, leading into a hit with their knee, or deliberately extending their leg outwards to make contact with an opponent. A double Minor penalty will be assessed to any player who knees an opponent. At the discretion of the Referee, based on the degree of violence of the impact, the Referee may assess a Major penalty and Game Misconduct penalty for kneeing. If a player is injured, as the result of a kneeing infraction that would otherwise call for a double Minor penalty, a Major penalty and Game Misconduct penalty must be assessed. A Match penalty will be assessed to any player who deliberately attempts to injure an opponent by kneeing. No Misconduct penalty may be assessed for kneeing. A Game Misconduct penalty must be assessed any time a Major penalty is assessed for Kneeing, as detailed under Rule 7.8 (b).
Hopefully. I have nothing against defending teammates, but if you're gonna "fight" (or whatever that was), at least have the decency to drop the fkn gloves.

Would never happen to Matthews, that p.ssy face never goes in the kitchen just like Marner and Nylander.
Only a Habs fan would try comparing a weak Swede has-been trade acquisition to a top-scoring franchise player.
If Matthews ran his knee into a defender playing defense, I don't think the leafs would jump that defender, I think they would fight him but not jump him like a drunk bar fight. Don't defend that type of fighting in this sport cause that is exactly how real fighting is gonna get banned. Dumb Canadians that can't keep it professional.

Wait 7 minute powerplay? First time ever that I've seen this and this is coming from an European where fighting is an automatic game misconduct and where 5 minute powerplays are more common than in NHL. Is this something new? I really thought the maximum power play time was 5 minutes
Really that should be an Intent to Injure penalty and hence a major but it is the preseason so it doesn’t really matter. Though losing Laine will suck for MTL

We can’t only take action only when someone gets hurt. Personally, I think a 10 game suspension would be appropriate. Even though it’s hockey, you can’t just grab and start punching someone if they don’t agree to fight.

You'd think that these guys would be aware of what's happened in the past with similar actions. It could've gone oh-so-wrong again.
That will likely be a suspension for Xhekaj

I think the solution to incompetent refs is to allow players to beat them up when they fuck up a call instead of the player on the other team who should have been penalized.
Definitely should have been a penalty on the laine hit, like that xhekaj stood up for laine, though he should've given pare a chance to line up for a fight, punching the pare in the back of the head even with gloves is greasy

You realize that the commissioner is there to negotiate business deals for the league and has little interest in the way the game is played, right? How would "Lidstörm" solve anything?
You mean players will take matters into their own hands when refs don’t do their jobs? Unthinkable. Clearly Xhekaj is just a menace and needs to get suspended for 20 games.
