      Entertaining, yes. But the sport is lost in the "goonery". Glad the NHL has evolved from this. Is there any other sport that tolerates as much roughing and violence outside of the game itself?

    Greatest era for hockey. There was high scoring and a sense of danger at the same time. Hockey was rising fast in ratings because of this era, but it didn't last with the upcoming dead puck era 😢. Also Cole and Neal had such amazing presence in their broadcast.

    This a perfect example of how good hockey was back then. There were so many characters and that includes coaches and referees etc.
    the top teams had a great collection of skaters, shooters, tough D men and skilled D men. Outstanding goalies!
    I still think I prefers today’s game with a lot less goonery and a high degree of speed and skill. Bure was one of the best ever but so was Wendell Clark!
    And such completely different players, you could build a franchise around either one.
    This Canuck v Leafs matchup was a Hall of Fame Classic. Or it should have been.

    I was at this game & the next 3 games ( the Canucks won it 4-2) with my then Busty Stripper GF, were sitting 16 rows up behind the Canucks bench, aisle seats. I had designed a sign that read " We dowsed the Flames, Shot Down The Stars, & Now We'll Burn The Leafs . . . Onto The Stanley Cup Finals " .... 1 CBC Hockey Night in Canada Producers & Canucks Promotions Manager came up to us during Van Hellamund's decision to send both teams to their dressing rooms. They told me they loved my sign, & the Canuck's Staffer also told me Arthur Griffiths & wife ( then owner, saw it & loved it ), & asked me if I'd come to the rest of the Canucks home playoff games, they'd supply 2 tickets for me & my then GF. I told them sure, but with an unlimited food & beer/drink vouchers during each game. They agreed, then the CBC Producer asked if my GF could wear the similar different bikini top & similar tight jean shorts to each game, stand up, hold up the sign & jump up & down while moving the sign from left to right during line changes & before face-offs. She told them it wasn't a problem, she could do that. . . Which she did the next 5 home games. . . During the Finals we'd been invited to meet Arthur Griffiths son's & wife in their private suite & enjoy a pregame buffet. It was nice to meet him & have several topical conversations with him. I ended up getting 25% discount on Season's Tickets. I continued as a season tickets holder for the next few years. Then I moved my 1 business venture to Asia, part of my business conversations with Mr. Griffiths. The Canucks didn't make another Cup Finals run for 16 yrs. . . Most of us saw or where there & still recollect that terrible forever sore eye of an incident to haunt Vancouver. . . . Hopefully next time it'll be a happier celebration.

As nice as he was I despise him for turning on Grapes who bled and still bleed's Canada Blood. Who advocated and still to this day stands for Canadian's. And he is right You live in Canada you wear a Poppy because if we went to your Country Your custom's and tradition's come first or else!!! Hockey is shit to me now. @jasonjansen9831 funny, but somehow this season has the same feel to it as 94. There is a lot of chippy play around the league right now. Players are taking things into their own hands again as the refs either miss too much or are not doing a good enough job of keeping things contained on the ice.

    • @dougmaclean3660
      @dougmaclean3660 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @hugomikaelsson4055 for 94 yeah that was considered a clean hit. It would be a minor in today's NHL but it was fun to watch how such a minor incident set off such a melee. Hunters hands were up, and he left his feet a bit but that was a tame hit for the era and for that series in particular.

    the next time clark squares up with a legit heavyweight will still be the first time. always picked his spots with lightweights & non-fighters or jumped the actual tough guys.

    I'd start watching again if this is what hockey looked like again. Now they're a bunch of figure skaters running around goalies wearing equipment that takes up the whole net.

    Disgraceful display by Van Hellemond. Call the hold on Gilmour before he got the puck and the rest doesn’t happen. He gives Clark 2 minutes for a punch with his left, his right, then dropping his gloves? Sends the teams to the dressing room with 3 minutes left in the game. Completely overwhelmed. League had to go to two refs because guys like Andy couldn’t manage the game.

      You're obviously a Leaf fan. Pearson should have been kicked out for the series and Gilmour was one of the dirtiest pricks to ever play

    This reminds me why I only watch playoffs. Even that's a yawn compared to this. Not to mention pacific coliseum when liquor was affordable ad not every second asshole has their phone out

    Wendy should wear a skirt. He sucker punched Mcsorley in the playoffs then got his bell wrung the next season when they had a fair fight.

    Another great example of the refs doing nothing till the game gets out of control then they try to be big time heros to this day they do not know how to read a rule book and call a game as it should and until bettman is gone nothing will change.
