I have the 270wi and a bunch of hand grinders. I love both. When I have to make espresso for more than just me and my wife, I use the Sette (the built in acaia functionality helps).
Kinu is probably the best when it comes to variety of brewing methods and can grind as fine as Turkish coffee which is why I chose it over the sette 270 plus I already have a baratza encore grinder for pour over so would be the better choice for me to get the m47
All I have (4) & all I would buy is a hand grinder. I grind with my left or right hand with no issues on my M47 or the others - so I don't get your concern. Using a hand grinder will future proof the purchase in that there is less to go wrong and you always need a good reason to keep your muscles moving. When you have guests - let them grind...
I definitely agree that the hand grinder is the best choice for longevity and not much can go wrong. However the kinu is hard to use for my wife. They both have pros and cons. I wont get rid of my kinu though.
This review answers a question that many noobs to the hobby have in no uncertain terms. One can spend hours watching the bigger coffee channel videos and get lots of wishy washy reviews meant to offend no one and drive sponsorship whether or not the reviews are sponsored individually. Much appreciate a definitive answer to the fact that the best hand grinders actually do beat mid tier electrics that are generally regarded as very good in the cup.
Thank you for the comparison- good and honest video. Im going to go with the kinu simplicity... But in canada at this point it is $389 :( but im justifying by the fact that i won't need another grinder for espresso for years to come....
Good luck with your new channel. I appreciate your very honest assessment of the 270 vs. M47 grind comparison. I am needing an entry-level home expresso solution and to that end have ordered a Flair Neo. I am now scouring the reviews to try and determine a suitable grinder for excellent expresso that will fit into my extremely limited SS budget. I would expect to grind 3 or 4 shots daily and want a fairly wide range of expresso grind adjustments for that if possible. I had hoped to find some grinder in the $200 range, but that does appear to severely limit the options available. Can you provide any suggestions?
Thanks for the review. I just got rid of my sette because I just couldn't take the noise anymore. Looks like a Kinu is in my future, hoping it's quiet enough not to wake anyone in the morning. I'm also kind of anti technology when, at bottom, it's all about the mechanics anyway. Good to hear that the Kinu is capable of producing a good espresso grind, as that is all I drink.. I'm also in the process of switching froma semi automatic espresso machine to a manual lever machine..any thoughts?
My two concerns with the kinu is I’ve had some magnets on the catch cup come off (I super glued them back so not an issue), and there is a lot of popcorning with the kinu. As for espresso what is your budget?
Im new to this whole thing, i bought a rancilio silvia eith a pid for 500 bucks and was quickly shocked to see i needed tl spend another 500 on a grinder 😅 i found a deal on a kinu like this and was debating between these 2. Happy i found it. Kinu will be here tuesday. I figured if i cant get the best powered grinder id look for the best manual grinder.. thabks for the video
I believe I was around 2.7 on the kinu. 18 grams in a vst basket with 36 out in about 30 seconds. Keep adjusting your grind setting until it takes about 30 secs. This is all subject to beans and grinders so grind settings aren’t necessarily transferable
You answered a question I have been having. electric vs manual. Baratza 270 vs Kinu M47. I think I will go with the Kinu M47 Phoenix. I know it is not as premium as the Classic, but I have seen in other reviews that the plastic bits don;t impact the grounds quality. Thanks !
Glad to help and you won’t be disappointed! There is a link to the classic in the description and the company also sells the Phoenix! Please use that link where I make a slight commission at no extra charge to you!
@5:14 You say: "This is the best hand grinder that you can get". What about the BPlus Apollo? It has the same exact burr set as the Kinu (italmil) but coated which makes them more aggressive hence grinds faster, you don't have to unscrew the top to calibrate the grind settings, is more accessible for cleaning and costs, I think, roughly $100 less. I guess the only drawback is the compartment screw fastening system. I feel the magnetic on the Kinu is superior. It will be nice if you can do a head to head comparison of them. :-)
It’s 50$ less the the kinu now. I’ve looked into. I do love the magnetic part on the kinu. It has its. Issues though. I, hoping to compare them sometime
How about Rok grinder GC? (not the old model), I can't find newest review even at the forum. It seem like rok is sinking, no one even buy that anymore. BTW do you have any trouble grinding light roast? I saw reviewer having trouble grinding it.
I blew a fuse in the sette grinding a light roast once. Both of these get the job done. I’ve never used the rok grinder and it’ll do a good job I bet. There are just better options out there that take up less space
For real it does! Its doesn't make sense but it is way better to grind if you are right handed. But I can still grind faster with my left so it leaves me frustrated.
Yes! I would buy the Kinu over the Sette any day. That is if I was willing to hand grind. That doesn't mean the Sette is a bad grinder. I would disagree with that. I just find the kinu produces a better shot. I haven't compared grinds side by side. I compared the quality of shot side by side.

The weight feature is super nice
Needed this exact comparison thank you!!
You’re welcome

I miss my kinu! It would be a great choice for espresso
I have a Turin DM47 and tempted to the idea of replacing its burr with Kinu
I wonder if that would work

@@CabeensCoffeeCorner Dude - my 10 year old uses my M47 - With Ease - all the time. She looks forward to it and she is just a skinny little thing.

1z espresso grinders are good but I’ve never used one

It will take some work to grinder but I did it for awhile with the kinu and a silvia! Great find with the pid!!
@@CabeensCoffeeCorner you think so? I have been dpubting my purchase as ive only gotten 1 shot out of like 3 bags of coffee
It takes some work dialing in but I used the kinu exclusively for 6 months on my silvia, and nuova simionelli heat exchanger.
@@CabeensCoffeeCorner what workes for you? What recipe

What about kinu 47 classic vs Timemore chestnut x?
Never used a timemore
Can you disconnect the arm for easy storage?
You can but You have to unscrew a bolt

Legit have wondered about this matchup
where did you get the silacone band for the M47
Prima coffee
Bro your videos are nice but please chill with the affiliate link stuff. Once is plenty
Did I mention it more than once in this video? I usually try and only do it once. Thanks for the feedback
Was expecting a grinding comparison at least
It’s very hard to get the grind details to show well enough on camera
A cylinder with a bump works different for left handed folks? … LOL
