    Can you go over setting ranges for the different types of coffees.

    Thanks for a good review. A minor question: the thumb stop on the original and the rubber ring on the phoenix, is there any difference in terms of holding and effects on grinding motion?

    • @primacoffeeequipment
      @primacoffeeequipment  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We feel that depends on your hands and how you prefer to hold the grinder. Steve prefers to hold the original with the thumb stop tucked into a finger joint, and says the Phoenix is very comfortable to hold, but others prefer the feel of the thumb stop versus the silicone ring.

    Having the Kinu M47 Pheonix for a few months now, I must say that there is a significant difference compared to the metal one (M47). The plastic will eventually crack and the blades will not align properly anymore. Also, just after 2 weeks, some alignment was lost since the 0 point was not lining up anymore.

      I think its not possible....noone have this experience. I will buy Phoenix, stabilization pieces has 5 axis plastic, I hope that can"t brake

      I eventually got through to Kinu, and they told me to go to a hardware store & buy rubber bands to hold it together. I’m not exaggerating, and I wasn’t rude to them.

    Nice video! I was thinking of gifting this grinder to my brother who brews coffee with a french press and AeroPress. However, since this seems better for espresso, which hand grinder would you recommend? It should not be more expensive than the Phoenix :)

    • @primacoffeeequipment
      @primacoffeeequipment  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You are right to think the Kinu is not suitable for your brother's needs. The Kinu burrs are made to grind espresso and are thus not as effective for pour over and French Press. We recommend the Timemore Plus line of grinders for AeroPress through French Press (and even espresso, if you choose a Timemore Plus grinder).

    • @RasenRambo23
      @RasenRambo23 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Kinu's supposed struggle with pour over brews is a myth. Plenty of owners of both a Commandante C40 and the M47 say there is no appreciable difference after the burrs have ground about 250 g.

    Halooo, Im from Indonesia, and may I ask. Kinu somehow makes coffee taste sweeter and not much complex compare to timemore and comandante? Do you also feel the same from your testing ?

      We have a whole review blog with comparisons between most of the high end hand grinders on the market! In general the differences are subtle, but we feel the Kinu burrs are better for espresso and the Comandante burrs are better for filter. The phoenix grinds efficiently, consistently, and produces great coffee/espresso at first. Unfortunately the catch cup design is a huge flaw. I've replaced the catch cup and O-rings several times, and the phoenix m47 just can't hold more than 3 beans anymore.
    I've reached out to Kinu 5 times without response.
    So purchased another hand grinder a few weeks ago, and enjoy making coffee again.
    The Kinu was great for a year, and now it's unusable. I do not recommend.
    ***update****
    I kept bugging them, and they eventually got back to me, had me make videos of the grinder failing, and eventually told me to go to a hardware store and buy rubber bands to hold it together. This conversation took a month, and I’m even more disappointed now.
    ***update***
    Kinu said they would replace it. In the end they helped me, but damn that was a lot of work.

    • @primacoffeeequipment

      @@primacoffeeequipment I ordered the phoenix from you guys, and you guys sent me some catch cups too. I told Kinu that I give up and I was just going to get rid of it. Then they sent me a replacement.

    I have a Kinu that was gifted to me. The only thing positive I can say is that it grinds coffee well. The design is a FAIL, though. Theres no cover so it allows dust to fall inside, and the beans bounce out easily as the method of adding them is.... not thought out. Its unnecessarily heavy, is top heavy, falls over easily, comes out of adjustment with use, and gets coffee grinds EVERYWHERE when you pull the bottom off to get the ground coffee out. All around this grinder is just NOT well thought out, and the designers should have to use it for a year as punishment for doing a shitty job. The only reason to but one is if you have more money than sense, and you want some inconvenience with your morning cup. If it wasnt a gift I'd have returned it. Take a look at a Hario Skeleton, MUCH better design. Kinu? You're a fail.
