      "When we do what we do for good reasons, then we've got nothing to worry about. And there's no better reason than family."
      - Walter White
      I knew Walt was a criminal who was willing to cross some lines to protect himself and his family. But poisoning an innocent kid was something I was confident he would never do, especially since he's a father of two kids. So yeah, as you said, this reveal definitely was the most surprising to me. Not just of this episode and this season, but the most surprising moment of the entire show, to me.

    I forget which episode it is exactly, but if you go back a bit, the scene where Walt is spinning his revolver on the table in his backyard after Saul called the DEA, the gun keeps pointing at him every time he spins it, but the final time the gun actually points to the Lily of the Valley which is when he got the idea.

    • @jessesisson2955
      @jessesisson2955 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      I always saw it like Walt had already had the idea, and that's why he was sitting next to the plant with the gun. Like he went out there to just spin the revolver once and whatever fate decided would be that...but when fate said "It needs to be you", Walt would be like "Play again."

    • @severallemmings
      @severallemmings ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@jessesisson2955 that's interesting. I'm sure there's a lot to break down for that scene in general. My first thought is, if he were just playing spin the bottle between him and the plant, there's a lot of space between the two of them that the gun could point to; you wouldn't use a roulette wheel to choose between two numbers, you'd just flip a coin.
      From a writing perspective, though, I think it would be more impactful if he only thinks of the plan after seeing the gun point to the plant. If he's just spinning the gun idly, not expecting it to point to anything in particular, and it keeps pointing directly at him, I think that moment lands much more heavily for me as a viewer. The fact that the one time it doesn't point at him, it does point to the thing that saves him works as a metaphor; he keeps playing and getting bit in the ass but he finally manufactures his own solution with what's in front of him.
      Also keeping in mind that the audience doesn't know any of this at the time. I think this plays more to the desperation and uncertainty he's feeling in the moment, whereas if he were just trying to make a decision, that scene is more about his inner moral conflict, which changes the context of the scene a lot on rewatch instead of letting it act as a foreshadowing easter egg of sorts. Plus after all the chaos with Saul, the DEA, Skylar, and the money, I just don't think that's where Walt's head would've been at in that moment, unless we want to speculate that he had always had the plan to poison Brock in his pocket.
      that honestly turned out a lot longer than I anticipated, but just a few thoughts.

    We can all agree that just in general poisoning a kid is not a good thing to do. We do see that Walter didn't want him to die but he was willing to risk it for himself and his family. The specifiks of how Walter poisoned Brock arent as bad as you usualy think but just the fact that he did it is enough to question what else he is capabel of. Of course at this point Gus had to go he made it clear that no matter what he was going to put Hank in the ground and if he belived that Walter would try to stop him he would waste his entire family and considering what he did to Victor who was basically loyal for probably awhile we know he would do it.

    You guys should react to The Crow (1994) starring Brandon Lee, he is Bruce Lee son.
    Brandon Lee tragically got shot on the set of the movie due to a prop gun with a piece of left over blank bullet residue, the crew thought Brandon was playing joke when scene was over and when he was laying on the floor he wasn’t moving but when they got closer they saw it was serious and rushed Brandon Lee to the hospital, the doctors did everything they could but it was too late Brandon Lee passed away at the age of 28.
    Some scenes aren’t Brandon it’s his body double Chad Stahelski, Chad is the director of the John Wick franchise. The director of The Crow Alex Proyas had too cut and add new scenes for the movie because of happened to Brandon. They also CGI Brandon Lee face on too Chad face and the makeup artist made a face mask of Brandon face for chad to wear. All scenes were they don’t show Brandon Lee face it’s Chad
    Brandon was supposed get married to his fiancée Eliza Hutton after The Crow finished filming.
    After Brandon was supposed to get married Brandon was going to a sign a two-year deal to continue The Crow storyline. The Crow is comic book/graphic novel created by James O'Barr.
    Before entering the Marines, O'Barr's fiancée Beverly had been killed by a drunk driver.
    While living in Berlin in 1981, O'Barr began work on his comic The Crow as a means of dealing with his personal tragedy.
    O'Barr was further inspired by a Detroit newspaper account of the murder of a young couple over a $20 engagement ring.
    In The Crow, the protagonist, Eric and his fiancée Shelly are murdered by a gang of criminals. Eric then returns from the dead guided by a supernatural crow, to hunt their killers.
    After his discharge from the Marines O'Barr continued his painting and illustration as well as doing various odd jobs.
    The Crow sat on a shelf for seven years but at last he found a publisher with Gary Reed of Caliber Press.
    The first miniseries was published in 1989. The Crow has since sold more than 750,000 copies worldwide.
    This movie has the best soundtrack of all time according to Rolling Stones magazine, Revolver Magazine etc. and the movie score is amazing as well.

And of course it was all done for the dramatic effect of having Gus realise what was happening.

    You mentioned that the bell sounded different and that blew my mind. I never noticed that before. It’s obviously not likely to ring perfectly if it’s rigged to a pipe bomb. It’s muffled, as if the interior of the bell had wiring in it.

    This is why Gus didn't take his car at the end of the last episode. Brock was poisoned but Gus knew he didn't do it... Walt doing it was the only thing that made sense. And he left his car unguarded, it wouldn't be safe. That's also why he had Jesse kidnapped as soon as the police released him. If Hector hadn't distracted him, he would have told Jesse.

    What a phenomenal send-off to our boy Gustavo Fring. I'm so happy you got to see this and I wish I could experience this for the first time all over again!
    We are in for a wild ride coming up though...

    It’s weird because the first few seasons you’re really cheering for Walt you want him to succeed and bad things just happen to him. As it keeps going Walt slowly becomes this bad guy and it’s hard to continue cheering for him.

    A couple days before the series finale aired on television, I went to see a panel discussion with Vince Gilligan (creator of Breaking Bad) for the Vancouver Film Festival. Before the interview for the panel started, they played this episode on a big screen on stage for the whole audience. Watching this episode with a big crowd was such a great experience. And then getting to hear Vince talk about the show at length right after was fascinating to listen to as well.

    Fun fact they had the makeup artist from the walking dead to make the half blown up face of gus and it shows that gus was a 2 face the side blown up was gus fring drug lord and the half of his face that was there when he walked out of the room adjusting his tie was gustavo fring business man.

    It's so easy to feel for Gus cause you always get these hints and flashbacks that he is still human. He had a heart, he had love, he had emotion, and it all froze up with the reality of his work. You gotta become a monster to stay alive or another monster will end you. That's what he did to Don Eladio, and now... it's what Walt did to him. Walt won, but he had to lie, manipulate, kill, and hurt and innocent child to do so. Both Gus and Hector saw family and/or friends brutaly taken away from them. They died hating each other and wanting to kill each other. At that point it wasn't about business for any of them, just revenge.
    This is my favorite season of the whole show. I have some issues with S5 personally but it's got some of the best episodes of the series within it and reaches level of darkness so far it will make the first two seasons feel like a different show entirely. Cause now we've seen what it means to be at the top and now it's Walt's turn.

    The moment Gus prioritize his feelings towards Hector more than this rational decisions, was the moment he looses with Walt. Tyrus told him that he should do it and he didn´t listen. Amazing Character from the show. Seems like the show finale, but season 5 is the better of all

    The end of Gustavo Fring. As Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould explained, Gus is logical and levelheaded, but his weakness is his constant need to make Hector suffer and to be the one to kill him.
    Last episode at the hospital, as Gus was walking to his car, the gears in his head were turning, thinking about what Jesse said. He didn’t know the car was rigged but he knew something was off.
    His mistake of wanting to kill Hector and need for revenge made him let his guard down and he didn’t realise until it was too late.
    I understand you feeling conflicted about Gus’ death. He was a unique character and even though he was the villain to Walt, a lot of fans like him, some prefer Gus over Walt.

    • @MLennholm
      @MLennholm ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Vince Gilligan said he hates when the villain mastermind loses because they suddenly become stupid. They figured out a brilliant way to avoid that while taking him out.

    • @JordanWylde_
      @JordanWylde_ ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@MLennholm precisely. Gus wasn’t stupid, his need for revenge clouded his judgment. That’s why they showed Gus not going to the car after thinking about it and later walk into Walt’s and Hector’s trap.

    • @JordanWylde_
      @JordanWylde_ ปีที่แล้ว

      @@samuelclayhills3298 you’re right, that’s what I meant. He made a foolish mistake but it fits. That’s why they juxtaposed with the car and Hector. If gears were turning with Hector he’d realise from talking to Jesse before the car and thinking Hector was a rat, he’d remember he took Jesse to meet Hector.

    When I first saw Gus walk out for a second I thought he was okay and then I saw the horrified look on the nurse's face and knew that he only looked okay from his left profile. When he straightened his tie it reminded me of Kill Bill when Bill knew he was dead but wanted to know how he looked.
