i have a twelve inch bsr camp dutch oven that i never would have recognized without your many excellent postings on identifying vintage cast iron and furthermore i made stewed chicken & rice with sweet onions just last night. love your channel, keep posting!!!!!!!!!!
I read a book a few years ago not by, but about The real Laura Engels Wilder. It was based in the writings of Laura Engels and It described in detail about the cooking the Engels Family did. It Spoke about when they lived out of the wagon and on the Move how they used a "Spider." And described it. It was the same as yours brand not withstanding. I believe it gave recipe's also. I'm sorry I can't give you more info on this very interesting book other than it is out there in the wild to be found. Great video! Lots of Fun! Best Wishes! M.H.
Awesome job on the cornbread and chicken and rice, the browning looked just right, I have two gatemarked spiders and my friend built me a heavy duty steel table to cook with my dutch ovens and skillets. I think all food taste better in cast iron, I guess it's from being from the south!
I have that same camp chef table! It really helps by raising my cookware off the ground - no stooping or squatting! Great video with lots of information, as always.
Excellent video!!! I love cooking outdoors and do it frequently. The quality of your meal was orders of magnitude above hamburgers and hotdogs others were cooking. Love the spider skillet. I've been searching for one myself.
I have a BR&S Company 12" Dutch Over and a 14" Dutch Oven. Haven't used neither yet, but am planning to. Too a long minute to identify BR&S Company though.
Hi Nice video! I was wondering how I can get one of those BSR catalogs. I have many pieces of BSR but no camp ovens or spiders. Thanks and keep up the good work.
Sounds like you got pretty bad for outdoor cooking. Welcome new comer!! It is a great hobby ( obsession ). The longer it takes, the better I like it. Pretty sooner you will get a lodge 14d and invite dozen people.
Think i have an old one. My friend died at age 85 and willed it to me. His wife said his mother cooked with it. Has 12IN on the handle no gate mark. Have you seen this?
@@castironchaos to the best of my knowledge the lid is original. It fits very tight. Lid has a 12, but no IN mark. And both are HEAVY! 😄 Also got a gate marked spider Dutch oven, #5 valrath skillet unmarked, and deep chicken frier with #8 lodge lid.
Nothing more satisfying than eating food that was cooked in cast iron

Nice job 😉👍👍🇺🇸
Cornbread looked fantastic, as did the bird & rice. Will have to try it with my spider sometime.
I'm so glad that you made a video of this! I saw the FB post a couple days ago and was hoping to see it.
I have a BSR spider skillet with the older style lid handle that I scored about 4 years ago.
I have that same camp chef table! It really helps by raising my cookware off the ground - no stooping or squatting!

look very good, loved the video.

very cool setup! Also i'm very hungry now lol
Looks yummy. All the best. 😎 Keep cooking with cast iron, nothing like it.
Wow...that looked great! Well done!
Just found a spider and though it was BS&R but it don't have the tab lid. Marked the same.
I loved your other chicken&rice video even cooked it. My question is would a can of beans work here or would they get to mushy?
It would depend on the beans, I think, since canned beans are pre-cooked.

I hope this helped. Those are great pieces to own and use.

The BS&R catalog was scanned and made available on the Facebook group for BS&R (and Lodge) collectors: facebook.com/groups/680139582087481/

Many spiders had 12 IN on the handle, but ones without a gate mark are less common. Even less common than that would be if it had the original lid.
