I'm really surprised at how good the Saturn VI sounds. Being one of the "cheaper" Spaceman pedals, I wasn't expecting it to sound so sweet. Definitely one of the best low gain drives I've ever played.
it sounds a bit like the buzzaround fuzz used by king crimson on their legendary first record. like a transparent muff. it also had very interactive controls. it is very hard to come by. some companies make their own version of it (my fav is the arc effects crimson king) but i'm so surprised to see it's a totally underexplored circuit. i wonder if the engineers of this pedal had the buzzaround fuzz in mind
Amazing pedal. Huge Spaceman fan. Gemini IV is amazing as well. The Nebula is an often overlooked pedal. I really want to try the Rumblefuzz. I just don't feel like spending $350 on another fuzz. It's hard to justify when I already have at least 10 awesome fuzz pedals. I guess there's always room for one more.
@@PedalsandTea I've been trying to collect them all. It's an expensive habit. They just remade the first Spaceman pedal. Hopefully they will make another Voyager tremolo. The original is hard to find and pricey. I have an Orion Reverb which is cool because I always wanted to build an all analog pedalboard & there are hardly any analog reverb pedals. The Explorer is the best sounding phaser I've played. I haven't tried the Meridian or the flanger or the eq or compressor. I don't really have much interest in filters so the Polaris & Artemis didn't appeal to me.
I believe it's inspired by the green Russian muff. The older versions had all the controls labeled in Russian. It's funny that Robert Fripp has said that he's not into gear & that all dirt pedals sound the same.
@@PedalsandTea Spaceman fuzzes have their own unique feel. The scooped sounds kind of remind me of a muff. A lot of people seem to think there's some early Tonebender in the Sputnik's DNA. It's definitely not a Fuzz Face. I'm really not sure. It could be a totally unique circuit if that's even possible. I don't know much about circuits & technical stuff. I'm just a guy that loves to play & collect pedals. I always associate Sputnik with Russian Muffs because of the Russian name & its ability to Doom like no other. I use Sputnik to play songs that would usually call for a green Russian & it sounds amazing. I love it for Matt Pike stuff. I don't really use it to replicate a muff. I use it INSTEAD of a muff if that makes any sense. Whatever it is, it's an absolutely beautiful pedal & it's a lot of fun to play.
I don't know why everybody thinks every new Fuzz has to be 'inspired' by an old one. This doesn't sound a thing like a Muff, and I had two, one from 'Mother Russia' (that's how they were advertised 😂,) and one from the U-S-of-A. All the name dropping is for naught.
@@Da_Publick i don't think it's based on a muff either, but tbf, Holy Island MM is based on a Muff and can sound way different in a lot of settings. The circuit design can be similar but people usually tweak the hell out of classic circuits (which is why "based on" is a popular phrase) so that the sonic end result might not resemble the original at all. People feel differently, that's okay.
sounds super punk rock!
This is great. I had the Saturn VI for a while, which is a great boost with a tone control and a touch of drive
@@TheoAndHisPedals all of their stuff is super interesting. Would love to try out a Redstone as well:)

Doesn't feel Like a Muff to me at all, you sure about that? That would be very interesting how far they tweaked the circuit

@@nicholasrella6904 hey whatever works :) you can definitely get a lot of scoop and compression out of both

@@PedalsandTea You're right, it is Stone Age tech; but, hey, so's the Axe. 🤣
