I tried it through various things: Victory V40 (fully clean, quite neutral, no way to get break up), Orange Super Crush (also clean), and Kuro T120 pedal (emulating the preamp of a Matamp GT120, not clean at all). In the last case it gets kind of crazy, but the character of the pedal kinda disappears in the Matamp-y sound.

@fulguroblastor5594 yeah I know what you mean with the t120. I Had one years ago but was too inexperienced to dial it in properly. Now I regret selling it. With Fender style amps (which the V40 IS as far as I know) there's a squishy thing happening in the low mids that's sometimes weird with Muffs in my experience. Played a Deluxe Reverb on a few tours...it doesn't like Muffs. I made a video about Fender vs Marshall input channels that shows that dynamic a little bit. You can try adding a few more mids and cutting some bass and see how that works. Another great visual aid is the tone stack calculator website (just google "tsc in the web") :) Hope that helps!

@@justinreynoldscomposer Hey, appreciate the interest. It's quite dynamic and responds to your pick attack and volume knob, so there's plenty of grit to be had at lower gain settings. I feel like the drive knob from 10 o'clock to 1 o'clock is where that kind of thing lives. It turns into more of a distortion past 2 and is more of a dirty boost before 10.

Also the too loud for modern stages is about where I ran my Hiwatt live in the late 2010’s. it was loud but it was a stoner/doom band. That stuff played at quieter volumes has zero impact live. The volume is part of the impact of that music.

I always ran a dimed Matamp with my band for stoner/doom and only heard positive things about the live tones….i think part of it is that some amps really excel and sound their best cranked up but it’s a big, warm tone. Not harsh or grating so it doesn’t have the perceived loudness on the ears, it’s more of a vibrate your viscera kinda thing which is much more enjoyable for people to stand in front of. The grit from the phase inverter and power tubes being pushed is like a hug from Bigfoot, warm and fuzzy.

@@louderthangod My bands all play loud stage volume. That being said, I do know people who like the pushed Hiwatt tones but would absolutely need an attenuator for their gigs. Let's be real, for the Indiefolk/Pop/Americana gigs I play, I bring a smaller amp that I can push a bit. Lugging this thing there would a) make me look like a self-indulging douche and b) inconvenience everybody else due to size, weight and volume. Just overkill in those situations. That's why I put that sentence there. There's a right tool for the right job. :) With the HC/Shoegaze projects...yeah this one rips. And one of my favourite shows to see was also the loudest. Slift.
