    You are becoming the "Go To" guy for all things Alexa (Smart Home). You were the first to put out an Awesome Google Skill Tutorial. Then a well detailed Tutorial on Alexa with Kodi and now this!! The Hibbert Security Monitoring System. HSMS/DIY

    can't wait for the tutorial. I didn't think Alexa could be used as an output device like how Sonos.

    I am really looking forward to your tutorial. I don't know if I will be able to find the time to do this but I still want to see how it is done. Thanks.

      +4daluvofnikki I've almost finished the first part of this tutorial. I've broken it into 3 bits (enabling the alarm, frightening the burglar, and disabling the alarm) so maybe you'll find the time :)

    Hi Paul, love the videos, I may be missing something so just want to clarify, in the videos it is not Alexa that the wav files are played through, these are always through the tablet, is that right ?

    Great stuff 😎 if it can trigger an alarm siren box outside (using another sonoff switch) sorted!.. Obviously for a predetermined time.

      Deffo! Its a shame the insurance companies wouldn't accept this solution as adequate because its actually bloody excellent! It works REALLY well! :)

    hi. would you mind always placing on your description above the FIRMWARES you are using of each program? the rm tasker, the broadlink unit, android firmware, etc? this would help us a lot to make sure we are following you correctly. thank you kindly.

    • @paulhibbert
      @paulhibbert  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Yara Brandao hi :)
      Always use the latest firmware if you're not sure. None of my guides require specific firmware. I'm using really old firmware on my Broadlink, but I know many of my subscribers are on the latest firmware.
      My Android device is really old and has a cyanogenmod rom on it from years ago, but I've done the same things with various Android devices and all of them have worked OK so you should be fine with pretty much any Android device.
      Hope that helps.

    Wow awesome... I have been wondering how to trigger a voice alarm with alexa! Right now I am using IFTTT to turn on my lights when my Nest Cam detects motion. Will I be able to use the maker channel to make Alexa talk when my nest cam detects motion?

    • @paulhibbert
      @paulhibbert  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Joshua Timothy Hi Joshua, that bit is a little fiddly and I ended up cheating somewhat. I recorded Alexa's voice by outputting her to my PC and she actually isn't the one doing the speaking!
      I used Eventghost to play a wave file through my PC speakers. Eventghost is triggered by IFTTT using HTTP. My next video will show you how if you're interested.
      Thanks,
      -P

      Paul Hibbert well, good to know! Good idea... I'm going to try to set up my raspberry pi to play a recording of Alexa...Its too bad we can't send messages to Alexa!

    Hello Simon here from Denmark
    I was wondrind if you can show me how you make the videos ,i mean on what program and how you make the efekts
    very sorry about the spelling but i hope you get the point , realy love the videos you are making keep up the good work

    • @paulhibbert
      @paulhibbert  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Simon Thorsted Hi Simon. I'm using Adobe Premiere pro. The effects are mostly just done with the motion section where you can just place markers for where you want things to move. It's awkward to begin with but you get used to it.
      You'd probably be better off with Adobe's After effects software though if you're specifically looking to create animations. Premiere pro is designed for video editing really.
      Thanks,
      -P

    Does the tablet screen remain on while it is recording or is it relatively stealthy by remaining off yet still recording and sending video to the cloud? Appreciate your help mate! Cheers

    • @paulhibbert
      @paulhibbert  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It dims the screen I think dude. It's free for just one camera I think, so give it a go as they may have made improvements.

    That's the stuff I am looking for. Many of the available IFTTT recipes for Alexa are not that much of a help.

      Mario Köstring took me a while to figure out how to do the HTTP requests with auth, but it was plain sailing once I'd got the syntax right. The tutorial will open up a lot of possibilities for people once they get their head around it :)

      Are you controlling the web and Alexa with Home Assistant? I have been trying to learn Home Assistant for a couple of days. It is a little bit confusing, but I think I'm getting the hang of it.
