So good to see Jim McLean on your channel Eric. I've been a big fan of his coaching and communication style for many years. It's refreshing to see he has a number of options for swinging the club as I for one am not interested in undergoing a whole swing change at this point in my life. I'd rather work with my tendencies and use match ups to play as good as I can. Great work Eric.
This swing got me on my colleges golf team back in the day. Very consistent and natural flow. Try this if you really want to understand “pure” contact. Looks funky but it works.
Jim McLean perhaps knows the golf swing better than anyone and I want to hear more of his observations. It is great he is sharing with the next generation of great teachers too. Thanks Eric.
Omg i just went to a local pro and I bring the club inside but I keep the face down, good body turn , face pointing behind me at the top but I start down with my hands and get over the top but muscle it back online, he wants to change my entire swing but I have issues with shoulder turn so this works for me coming inside. I am so glad to see this video as I know I don't need to change everything, I wish I could get u my swing
I have been taking the club way inside up and kicking the clubhead slightly over into the slot on the downswing with great success. It is not pretty but it works for me. Thx Jim McLean. For years i have been trying the more classic move but always go back to old faithful. No more
Hey Eric, So I like the club face turned down great idea for me. Anyway correct me if I’m wrong, as you reach the top of your back swing and start the transition downward your knees flex downward and your body lowers and your pushing with your legs the club should start to transition into the slot. I’m not the expert but I’m glad you are. Another great vid Eric.
The loop swing into the slot in and of its self adds speed. Gets the butt of the club further away from the ball at the top of the back swing. One reason Freddie’s swing looks so effortless.
Wouldn’t mind hearing you get a little deeper into the weeds with this topic. Any shot shape issues, Bruce was a cutter if my memory serves me right, Peete was pretty straight and Sneed could go either way. How about physical issues that might make one better for shoulder issues like Peetes arm etc. I really enjoyed your discussion,
Great video, Was hitting driver awful went to range after this video trying to keep club head behind hands and was hitting very solid little more left to right then I wanted but think I just have to release better…. have any drills to practice club head behind hands correctly was a little inconsistent on the course when I did it correctly felt great. Thx.
Mr. McLean reference players (Lietzke/Stadler)whose prime were 40 years ago and perhaps his students' age profile might identify with those players. If someone really wants to understand the golf swing, look up the Malaska series on Eric's channel. Pure gold!
Is it a good idea to think about a one plane swing, even if it doesn’t happen, as long a you hit the slot in the downswing? Great video, I have several of Jim’s books.
Anyone want to try my forth option to get into the slot? Simply start your downswing with your upper trail arm nudging against your trail side rib cage. This pushing action of the trail upper arms against the trail side rib cage will guarantee you into the slot as it simultaneously activates your lower body turning as well. It will also prevents going over the top as it silent your trail shoulder and becomes impossible for you to roll over your trail forearm at the top of your swing. Cheers
Eric, off topic from the lesson on the video, but is there anyway you can host instructional one on one’s on your web site without needing Facebook as a requirement? I want to take lessons badly, but will not now, nor ever create an ID on Facebook (not a political decision...its a data control issue for me). I think there are others that are in the same boat.
Hey Chris! Yes...absolutely. We have received a lot of similar messages. So we are building out a portion where we can do this right on www.cogornogolf.com without Facebook....we are looking to have that ready for April!
But most amateurs get it wrong and get too steep though into the ball. But what I like is that he is basing his ideas on what he have seen on video or live playing or analysing great players. Not some theory.

Fantastic video. I really enjoyed how Eric demonstrated all 3 examples. Takes a lot of talent to pull that off. More slotting please.
:) Thanks, Anthony!

Hey John!
Thats correct!
Love to see more like this.
Thanks, Peter!

Lots of ways to do it!

McClean is about the only teacher who acknowledges the “chopping” swing (inside then over), but it’s almost universal for the amateur...

AS~
Take a shot every time they say "slot".
Lol
Great Video
Thank you!
