Hey I tried this fly and it was all jacked up the hair was uneven the lure was lopsided more hair on one side than the other still caught fish. I threw it over a couple bluegill spawning beds and they went apeshit on it
I'm brand new to fly fishing (always used baitcasters before this) and as I look at all the fly tying videos out there, it always seems like every fly requires unique materials. It's super refreshing to see someone making a variety of fish catching flies out of a minimum use of the same materials. This is huge and inspiring!!! Finally, someone gets the new guys/gals that want to tie, but don't have unlimited funds for a giant variety materials. Thank you and keep up the good work!
I've been a conventional tackle bass fisher my whole life but your vids have motivated me to take up fishing on the fly and tying some streamers myself. Thank you Alvin for all the content and info you've put out there.
That's what it's about man! Check out Bass Pro. They have classes for free and you don't need to bring anything. They will teach you nomenclature and the basics of casting. Good luck!
Great video, great fly! Good reminder too, to keep bass flies simple once you know the basics that they have to have. Some bulk for silhouette and water-pushing, some wiggle with the rabbit strip, easy tie so several colors are not a burden and matters less if you lose it - and generally weedless/tail tangleless! I'll have to get out my materials again. Thanks Alvin.
Breath of fresh air, sir. Just starting out with this stuff and it gets real stupid real fast on some videos. I’m much more the “I’m not getting out another tool” guy. Not the “arctic fox tail, home blended dubbing from spring polar bear belly undercoat and albatross chick hackle on a size 36 hook.” type a guy.
I really like this one! I’ll be tying some up after work today. I’ve been catching some nice bass recently on smaller, flies but wanting to target bigger quality instead of quantity and this will definitely be added to my box, (along with some Fat Baby’s, I already tied some Dedeaux Poppers) We were talking about you and your guide flys in our flyshop yesterday..All good stuff! Thanks a lot Alvin! 👍👌✌️🎣
I'm a huge fan of your tutorials! I was wondering what fly vice you are using and if you can recommend some tools or a kit to start tying flies. Thanks in advanced!
I tie my Muddler Minnows (marabou muddler and midnight muddler) with crappy, loose spun deer hair! It "catches" and pushes more water, creating more disturbance. It works! you don't have to be good at spinning to make effective flies! I have videos of those if you want to check them out.
🌴 Hey Alvin ,what’s your thoughts on fly line colors , do you think high visibility, neon yellow or glow orange do they chase fish away ? Or are dull colors that match water color work better, what about crystal clear water ,now with a long leader the fish might not see that bright line ? But people say a bright line let’s the fisherman see we’re his or her line is at in the direction of their fish , to me trying to make the most natural life like lure ,presentation , to trick the fish into biting is the goal 🤔
Great fly! Got a hit the first day using a version of this fly (I have different colors). I need to do better at letting the fish take the line, 5th bass I’ve lost after having it for about 5-10 sec smh
Hey Alvin I finally got to test my brand new 8wt yesterday. I tied on a version of your snake. Used lead eyes, long black estaz body and black zonker with sinking line. Saw a nice bass and on very first cast caught a 5+ pounder! 😀 Caught several other nice ones in 2-3 pound range, Then saw another big one and she grabbed it twice..I missed both times..swapped to a white version (Blane Chocklate body) and landed a 6+ pounder! My best day ever with a flyrod. Thank you so very much! Raining here this morning, I’m going to be tying up lots of snakes! Have a great and blessed weekend! 👍👍👌🎣

Glad you like them!
Really cool seeing fly tying videos where it's not all about UV Resin and 40 materials.
Ha ha, I almost put some UV resin on at the end, but then I realized I didn't have any on the flies in my box so I left it off. 😂
@@AlvinDedeauxFlyFishingMan, I just got some bone dry and it's game changing haha

Great idea for constructing a weed guard. Thanks, Alvin.
Not sure who showed me that one, wish I would have thought of it sooner.
Love tying vids! Thanks for the how to, I’ll give it a shot. Keep it up!

Just started fly fishing and most all my flys come from you thanks for the good vibes and cool flys.
Glad to hear it!
I used a Schick personal grooming razor for trimming. Worked like a champ
I liked the video. Good demo on a good looking fly. Thank you!

Cool, thanks
You might want to think about wearing a shirt that contrasts with the color of your flies. It would make it much easier to see the details. Good work.
Good point!

Nice fly Alvin. The White Mamba fly. A little sloppy, haha. Hope that all is well. When are you coming back to Colorado for a visit.
Not sure yet
Great videos Alvin!
What type of vice do you have?
It's a really old Abel vise.
Great fly! Got a hit the first day using a version of this fly (I have different colors). I need to do better at letting the fish take the line, 5th bass I’ve lost after having it for about 5-10 sec smh
Maybe try some heavier tippet.
Why do you tie the rabbit strip in off to the side in lieu of centering on the hook shank? I am definitely adding a handful of these to the box!
Meant to center it, but sometimes they twist once you start wrapping the thread. Doesn't seem to hurt the action though.
Nice fly! I wonder if alternating the deer hair color would make any difference? 🤷🏽♀️ I know you're trying to keep it simple though.
Oh yeah, you could tie it a bunch of different colors.
Like it a lot ,thanks!
Glad you like it!
Cool fly man! Thanks A

How do you like to fish this fly? Short twitches? Love your videos by the way.
Medium speed strips with lots of pauses.

what are some good fly boxes for bigger flies?
I use the Plano boxes
@@AlvinDedeauxFlyFishing i mean like fly boxes with foam
@@consolo1387I don't have any with foam. I have a couple of Cliff's boxes, but I don't use them anymore.
Love the guide fly videos Alvin noticed the Gerber Free hander what’s your take on that tool?
I have been using it for a couple of weeks now and so far so good. Cuts really well and I was surprised at how well the line holder works.

How do you keep the zonker strip from wrapping the hook shank?
It will wrap at times, but I think the weed guard helps a lot.
