In fact the reason I had to wait to watch your video is because I drove straight from DFW to Indianapolis today and I stopped in St Louis for dinner (the whole drive was 13 hours which is probably light-work for you but is by far the longest I’ve ever driven in one day lol). St. Louis is such a great driving town. Lots of interesting freeways and expressways to explore. Some day I need to get back and drive the Musial Bridge.
    The westbound stretch of I-64 is so much nicer now than it was when I lived in the St. Louis Metro 20 years ago. They shut it down for a couple years and completely rebuilt it from dirt. Before that, it was pretty much as-built as US 40. (Do people in St. Louis still call it "Highway 40"? They did when I was there.)

    I feel mixed about the director's commentary, to be honest...
    On one hand (under the perspective of a recreational listener), I frequently watch your videos on loop for the purpose of listening to songs I'd never encounter on my own. Having director's commentary at the end of the video makes it a little bit harder for me to want to loop the 2019 videos if commentary's going to be a consistent thing.
    However, it's also nice to know a little behind the scenes about each road video as well as your personal thoughts on them. I was originally going to comment on the admittedly irritating darkness that intruded half your video... but after hearing today's commentary, pointing out what you're already aware of seemed rather redundant. I appreciate your effort to make this video work, though.
    Have a wonderful rest of your day, Jim. ^^

    • @Freewayjim
      @Freewayjim  5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Thank you, it's OK, nothing I do will please 100% of the people who watch and I accept that. Yeah, I can't control the skies, gotta make the best of what Mother Nature presents us sometimes. I had a few other reasons for doing the commentary, one reason was to add some things that would have been too wordy or details for the annotations in the video, the purpose is to watch a video, not ready my comments, another is that I did this in the freewayjim facebook group (they went on for an hour with Q&A) and the general feedback was that people enjoyed them. Another reason, nobody else does it so it's something fresh and new, another is it makes people watch the 8 seconds of closing credits so I won't have to answer questions about my car, camera and other equipment that's posted there for everyone to see. This was the first doing it in this form so I like to think I'll improve as I do more of them.

      Gave you a thumbs up partly because it is my home town. I haven't been able to get back there for 15 years, so it was a bit of melancholy and nostalgia for me. Wish you would have had better lighting, but, oh well. You really missed giving a heads up on some of the landmarks, and you didn't film the more aesthetic part of the area, which is the suburban parts. St Louis is unique in its city county government, and the way it is set up. The Metro area is actually quite large, mostly due to the fact of being land locked by the two great rivers, the Mississippi and the Missouri, which border its North and East, and expansion was thus limited to the West and the South. Thanks for the 'trip' home, Jim!

    • @Freewayjim
      @Freewayjim  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dougoverhoff7568 Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for watching but you don't understand how these things work, I rarely have the time to cover all the landmarks, on a cross country trip when passing through a city (and STL was a pass through city on this trip) I have to take what I can get with regard to traffic and lighting conditions as well as time, I'm sorry the video can't be all things to all people.

    As someone who lives near St. Louis, its always nice to hear visitors comment about how much they enjoyed it (no matter how small the amount of time was). The constant negative press this city gets is exhausting. It does have its problems but there are still a lot of positives about it too...but I digress...

    What a great way to come home from work to: Jim finally offloading his footage from his latest summer trip!
    Shame you didn't get in town earlier to film... But on the flipside, 'ol Highway 40 going west would've likely been borderline impassable at that time anyway...

    Nice video despite the abysmal lighting conditions. The Blues victory is probably the only time Kansas Citians are enthusiastic about the other side of the state.
    Can't wait for KC Videos!

    I’m planning a trip to Missouri. What do you think is more prettier: Kansas City or St. Louis? (By the way, GREAT VIDEOS!!!)

    • @Freewayjim
      @Freewayjim  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I like KC better, although it's not a knock on STL in any way.

    • @sporgiii
      @sporgiii 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I live in St. Louis, but I definitely think Kansas City has more interesting things. Aside from the Arch, Busch Stadium and a few other things there's not much to do. But that's my opinion

    • @joepiccoli711
      @joepiccoli711 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      St Louis obviously has the #1 zoo in the country, museums down by Forrest Park. The Arch, the Italian area "The Hill" and lots of other things. KC isnt as visual but probably overall nicer in the city area

    • @chetreid77
      @chetreid77 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kansas City has a country feel; St. Louis is more urban. Both are really nice.

      @Freewayjim.... just curious, how do you like your Genesis G90? On a scale of 1to 10, how would you rate it (1=horrible...10=best purchase of your life)?

    • @Freewayjim
      @Freewayjim  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GSDadd I love it, I inherited it from my father when he passed away last fall (best car purchase he probably ever made), but I'd strongly consider buying a new one when the time comes, impressed with the Hyundai/Genesis dealers I've worked with.

      Freewayjim... Thanks for the info. Sincerely sorry to hear about the passing of your dad. My dad is my best friend and mentor in life and I am watching him get more frail each day. Though he is forever stamped on my heart, can’t imagine this world without him in it. All my best to you.

    1:34 That last exit of I-64/US 40 in Missouri connects the Historic Route 66. 1:46 If you cross that bridge aka the Congressman William L. Clay Sr. Bridge, I believe that's part of Route 66 until it goes northbound of IL 157 and back to I-55 as it parallels most of it until Chicago. In Chicago, however, Route 66 goes to Ogden Avenue and ends there.
