- My pick of the best phones for 2023, after unboxing and reviewing around 65 of the blighters - including my favourite camera smartphone, budget-friendly flagship Androids, foldables and more. What's your own selection of the top phones as we hit 2024?
Choosing my most loved blower of the year was tricky, no doubt, so I went with my gut - which smartphone I'd most want to use as my full time pocket pal if I had to pick only one. The winner, my personal best, won't be for everyone but I really loved using it. For all of my phone reviews, I stick my personal SIM inside and use them as my 'daily driver' as TH-cam knobs like to say.

Great yearly round up. I like compact phones, not tiny, but compact. and got the standard 6.1" S23. Could not be happier with it. Considering its battery size, I get surprisingly good run time. From its quality build, connectivity on calls and Wi-Fi, speakers, camera/video, display, and just all-around fast/smooth operation - it simply does what I want it to do without any fuss/hiccups and never runs hot. While 25-watt super charging is considered a negative, for the size battery in the S23, it charges quickly enough.
Yup debating on getting either pixel 8 or 24 when it comes out as the s23 ultra is too big for me even if its a great phone.
Watching this on my OnepPus Open. This device is just amazing! First foldable as there has been too many compromises on previous foldables, but this one just gets so much right. Performance is great, screens are awesome (also the cover display), the camera is super versatile and takes stunning images, the battery is solid, etc. OnePlus really nailed it with the Open

Would you say you're sold on foldable phones from here on out? And could you ever see yourself ever going back to a single screen?
I ask because I'd love to go foldable myself, but I'm wary of benefits vs drawbacks.

Especially for someone like me who's never spent more than 400 on a new Android device.

I agree. I've had nearly every Android flagship in 2023 and this hands down in my opinion just gets nearly everything right. If you're not fussed about wireless charging or lack of IP dust and water full on resistance this is the device to get if your budget allows it.
Yes, true. You get everything, battery life, best camera available on Folds right now, external screen is perfect size, it is like a normal phone, best decision ever. Multitasking is perfect as well with the canvas style

Ended up going with the Samsung Galaxy 23+ during Black Friday. Absolutely love it! Amazing Battery, great performance, and it doesn't dig into your hands like the ultra does 😅

Good choices especially the OnePlus Open. Surprised HM5 Pro didn't get a mention. Enjoyed watching from my deeply discounted Honor Magic 5 Ultimate with official Google Services, the best looking phone of 2023 in my unbiased opinion.

If it's cheap alcohol you want, you should visit my town, it's regularly featured in magazines and newspapers as one of the best places to live or visit in the UK and at my local bar its £3.60 a pint or house double and no its not some of that cheap crap served in weatherspoons oh and there's live music every Saturday and Sunday.
Love that Uncle Spurt just despises the iPhones coz you know it will always be the best for the other reviewers.

Whats strange about the zenphone 10 is that everyoen sayss it's the only compact phone but the samsung s23 is actually smaller in height, slimmer and only 2mm wider. S23 also doesn't have a chin that jimmy hill would be proud of.

FYI my Open's screen died within 24 hours of ownership and I babied it. May have been a problem specifically with mine but MKBHD reported something similar. I went for the refund. Gutted though because it truly was amazing

The Zenfone 10 is basically the same dimensions as the S23 because of the thicker bezels on the ZenFone. Mrwhosetheboss gave the Xperia 5 V the trophy.

The Xperia 5 V is superior in terms of camera, battery (both for capacity and life) and speaker quality. It also has microSD card support for those who want /need it.
@@marasion0862 The only thing is that the 5 V only comes with 128GB storage whereas you can spec the S23 up to 512GB.

I'm on the s23 ultra now. The one plus open looks awesome, but there is no stylus, and I don't trust the software support.
Nice video and would like to highlight a particular feature which may matter to some audio geeks like myself - my Vivo X90 Pro has an inbuilt Hifi DAC missing from most other flagships - it's a CS43131 so when used with a cheap analog dongle sounds as good as a +100£ external dongle - pair that with an amazing camera, vegan leather back design, curved screen, top performance/battery/charging/case& fast charger included which btw can actually charge my laptop - basically worth adding to your contenders for the next round :) cheers

I`m amazed the Pixel 7a gets such good reviews I was massively disappointed with it. Screen not bright enough and far too heavy. The camera quality was ok but nothing to write home about.
I sold it on after a month and went back to my old Poco F3.

I am glad I stumbled upon your videos, I was considering an Iphone after hating it 10 years ago, glad to see nothing changed and I should just stick with OnePlus.
Writing from Oneplus 115g and it was feeling like a disappointment before for some screen stutter when flicking through pics of Tees on Gap website (dont judge). But then again, no phone is perfect. Rest everything is great!
