I can’t imagine why anyone would THUMBS DOWN this video. This turned out adorably!! Thanks for sharing your tips and techniques and the finished product, too! 💗💗💗
Great ideas for scraps. I have a box full of bits that I keep. I recently made 4 inch squares which I put together to make 12 inch wide and really, really long + put a backing on it. This was a dog cover for for my sofa. I have also previously made quilted bags, make up & pencil cases. I have also made 20x20 square with padding inside using scraps on one side for autistic children. The top part had all sorts of things they could play with - zips/cord with buttons/tassels etc + used lots of different textures of items.
Hi Heidi. LOVE the idea, your quilt is BEAUTIFUL!! I'm going to try this and maybe sew a handbag from my finished scrap pieces, think it would look wonderful!!Thanks so much for sharing!! 💖👌🌻👏
I'm always on the look out for ways to use up my fabric scraps. Really liked your fancy stitches. I would love to have more on my machine! Looks great as a background to your mini quilt.
This is a superb demonstration. Have just bought a bag of fabric remnants and embroidered handkerchiefs from my local market in Brittany. Will try to find interesting thread and make some quilt blocks. Thanks so much for the inspiration and gentle, peaceful presentation. Merci from Catherine
I love this technique. I did something like it many years ago so I'm glad you reminded me of how pretty it can be. I'm going to be making some "Hug Shawls" for home-bound and hospice patients. I think this technique would be great for the shawls, especially with additional embellishments and couching on the from. I like the idea of the texture and something for them to look at and touch.
I am currently camping. I brought my machine for the first time as I have been making masks for the Huntington VA Medical Center. I am glad I brought it.
Love! So happy you posted this! As much sewing as I “want” to do, never thought about this. Perfect for wall hangings! Certainly will speed things up, mostly I like the ability to try scrap placement before sewing. More, please.
Slap me silly! I sew most of my clothes so have scraps upon scraps. Always thought I had to do the squares, triangles, etc for a quilt --- would rather sew a comfy dress. And I use sf101 for most of my makes --- never thought of using it to reduce my scrap boxes! Brilliant!! Thank you so much!
Your video just popped up on my viewing page …. Sooooooo glad it did ….. I have honestly never seen a ‘scrap’ quilt look so flipping gorgeous….. I can’t wait to get in my sewing room now ….. absolutely beautiful… thank you for the inspiration ❤️❤️
What a great idea! I have sooo many scraps. Creating my own fabric this way is so inspiring. The possibilities are endless. And using the fusible material the way you did makes it look easier too. Thanks for this tutorial.
Love the different metallic stitches! My machine has an embroidery feature and I have lots of metallic thread I could use to enhance any project! Thanks so much for this idea!!
Hello Heidi: Omgoodness, this was on my feed, so I took a look 🤪. That is such a cool idea, I just love it!!! Thank you and Gods blessings til next time ❤️😀
It’s great that you have a room to sew. I feel quite fortunate to have the space on our boat to create. Antigua!!! Awesome! We went to the Bahamas a year and a half ago. Loved it!
I have been struggling with the mental weight of bags and bags of scraps! I've made scrunchies and headbands, and masks, and STILL have tons of scraps that are too small for anything else. This is a brilliant idea, thank you so much Heidi!
My mom actually hates quilts! She grew up in the old country, scrapping is what she did because you had nothing else! Covers were made to protect equipment, like a wine press. She started sewing a t a very young age, and says that her fathers shirt was so patched that you wouldn't even know what the original shirt fabric was! She is very talented, but appreciates solid fabrics! I love quilts!
Ana Serrazina I love that story! It reminds me of when my parents took old barn wood and paneled a wall in their family room. This was in Montana where I was raised. My great grandmother was confused as to why anyone would want that look because she spent her life in old farm houses where there was no money to paint. Everything was weathered looking. Today, we find beauty in that...and in scrap quilts! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much. Because I was gifted a sewing machine all the different stitches. Will go crazy this fall& winter with scraps my sister gifted me. I can donate the doll quilts at Xmas time.
Hat was interesting, but I see you did a free quilting after joining the fabrics together with different stitches...the outcome is beautiful. Looks like lots of work for when one has time to just be creative. 👍🏻🌹❤️
What a creative, beautiful use of scraps resulting in a high end fabric. The thread does make it extra special and you did an excellent job of demonstrating it. I’m also thrilled to have a way to play with the decorative stitches I am never sure what to do with! Thanks. Oh, and I have mad respect for you Quilting on a boat!!!
Thanks for sharing. The outcome is quite innovative and interesting. I see you did quilted it before adding other aspects to the piece. It would be great to see tutorials of the various stages.
Gaafari Regina Torrington they are coming! Be sure to get the notifications so you catch it when the video is available. Thanks for watching and so thrilled you enjoyed!
WOW!!! I'm a bit of a cynic so, often I don't have much faith in these videos and am not all that impressed but, holy cow, I'm impressed! Gorgeous work and sooo easy compared to actually having to "properly" quilt. I just did a bit of a purge in my sewing studio and gave an entire sack of scrap fabric to a neighbour's daughter who is getting into sewing clothes for her barbies . . . now I feel like pounding on their door and demanding my sack of fabrics back (just kidding . . . sort of). You do beautiful work and you assembled this ingeniously.
Thank you so much, Debbie! I’m thrilled that this has stirred up those creative juices. Oh no! On those fabric scraps! Maybe a compromise can be reached. 😉 Thanks so much for taking the time to comment. I really appreciate it. Happy creating!
