    Just repaired my daughters laptop hinge. Used super glue in the newly drilled holes. Screws grabbed really well. Though the laptop cover seems thin, it is thick enough, with the glue, to grip firmly. The screws I got from my local DIY shop. I did have to cut the hinge cover to get proper access as I didn't want to mess around taking apart the base. Added a bit of multi purpose grease to the hinge before carefully reattaching the hinge cover with a touch of super glue. Turned out to be a great fix and saved a lot of money.

    Nice video, thanks, but only fixing the hinge without eliminating the cause is just a temporary repair. When the friction of the hings increases by the time the load on the anker points will increase until the anker points will come loose. If you take you laptop apart you should also have a look at these hinges regarding the friction. Loosen them a bit, not to much otherwise the display will not stay open and this repair will last forever.

    Nice video. But I would suggest loosening the hinge first. I've had my HP laptop repaired twice for this problem, but both tech guys didn't care to deal with the actual problem. Now the plastic cover is broken around the hinge and can't be repaired any more. I'm thinking of opening it and loosening the hinge myself.

      That's why no tech repair person should ever be fixing a customer's computer using a method like this. It's fine if it's your own computer and you just want a cheap and easy fix, but this kind of fix will not even last as long as the original part did.

    I have used plastic epoxy to do this same repair many times. I just epoxy in one of the spiked nuts to aline the holes and fill the entire corner area with epoxy around the hindge. Then I slightly loosen the hindge nut to releave a small amount resistance. I never need to drill holes in the top caseing 4k pounds per square epoxy holds it just fine and looks alot better.

    I tried gluing mine, didn't work. So, I drilled 2 holes in line with hinge holes completely through the case as he does here, BUT, I put large washers on outside for support. Then tighten nuts down onto washer. Much better than cheap plastic connections. His solution will not last long, no support on his screws on outside of case. Yes, you can see bolts on outside of case, but no more problems.

    @RiffRaffMama. 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    You haven't "fixed" a thing! The first thing you needed to do is loosen the hinges, because that is why this happened and why it will keep happening. Drilling through the case has weakened the corner and without any extra support on the outside of the lid, your corner will break off very soon. Then what will you drill through? And that long bit you just left flapping around at the side? It's there to provide rigid strength to your screen as it opens to prevent it from having uneven pressure applied as the hinges open the lid. Without it being in one piece you have a very weak point in the lid and it will either crack the lid where the break in the support is, or worse, will flex and break your screen.

    This is fine for fixing your own computer but I hope nobody is actually charging for this as a service. There are multiple problems with this method:
    1. The area you're screwing into isn't reinforced at all. That's part of the reason why these hinges fail so easily in the first place, these manufacturers just expect thin plastic to withstand the entire force of the hinge, which is often a LOT stronger than you think (it's designed to hold the screen firmly in place, not to be easy to open). They're just terrible designs to begin with.
    2. The screw isn't screwing into anything. You just drilled a hole, but you did not thread the hole. These are not self-tapping screws, they're fine-pitched screws designed to be screwed into a metal boss, which you are missing. The only thing holding all of this together is the glue... good luck with that after repeated use.
    3. The hinge is actually broken and you did nothing to fix that. Without that flimsy little metal rod attached to the base of the hinge, the entire force of operating the hinge is put on the plastic.
    This is like making a bad hinge design even worse. Again, fine for a DIY, quick and easy fix, but I REALLY hope you're not charging customers for this.

    My Asus zenbook ux535 of 3 years recently had its first problem. The charging port got fried somehow. Charger does not go in smoothly anymore and neither do other ones that I tried. I would always have my charger connected to the laptop on my desk. It wasn’t an issue before so I have no clue how this happened. Tech guy opened it for me and confirmed it got fried and my bad luck it had to be connected to the mother board. I’m extremely sad as I love this laptop and now it’s been sent in to be diagnosed by a local repair shop. They have to get back to me still. I’m just very stressed that it won’t get fixed. I really don’t wanna buy another laptop as I love this one and it’s hard to find now days. I’m sorry for commenting I guess I just need the support. Seeing everyones desk setups and computers all over my algorithm makes me depressed. Is this something that can be fixed ? Once again I’m sorry for putting my problems on here. It’s just been a really rough few days for me.
