Huge warning, don't put as much epoxy as this guy did. Just put it on the bottom, then press the metal part down into the epoxy (not slather the whole top part with it), let it harden, then apply more into the 3 holes, you can even do the sides slightly connecting the metal to the plastic. But if you put as much as MrContrive did, then your laptop WILL NOT CLOSE. You will fix one problem (broken hinge) but create a new one (can't close laptop or you'll break your screen). I had to sandpaper the heck out of mine with a nail filer, and it still won't close but is much better then before. Good luck everyone and how I wish this comment was here when I did my laptop. :(
I went a step further today and placed epoxy then the screen, then the hinge, then a little more epoxy. Held pressure and then filled in with epoxy where needed and smoothed out the top. If the hinge breaks again, I will just buy the whole assembly and replace it.
Thank you MrContrive for this tutorial. So far so good on my hinge repair. A note to others. My hinge was extremely stiff. Probably why it broke under pressure. I loosened it with a mini socket attachment that I had in my repair kit. Then I used epoxy like MrContrive showed in his video. Epoxy sure holds the hinge down better than the flimsy plastic that these manufacturers use.
yuore the best advice so cause majority of the times its the stiffness that causes it to break i have the same issue i just cant loosen mines gotta buy a tool for that
Thank you so much for posting this. I wouldn't have had the confidence to have a go without your video. I would never thought of Aralditing it. (Araldite is amazing stuff. Years ago I used it to fix a hole caused by a stone in my car's aluminium radiator. I did it as a temporary fix when we were away but it lasted until I got rid of the car a couple of years later!) Such a shame this happened. The laptop hasn't been miss used. It happened on my son's one too. It would stop me buying another.
Same. Bought a Samsung Chromebook because my daughter needed one for zoom classes. Nice metal chassis. Then a year later. Crack! Hinge broke. Opened it up and was greeted to the most flimsiest plastic that was holding down the metal hinge. I bought another Chromebook for my daughter. Luckily, it hasn’t had a hinge problem yet. Knock on wood. But I would never had thought I would use epoxy to hold down the hinge. Now I have two Chromebooks. I used the epoxy from JB Weld.
I just leave the laptop open so the broken hinges are not used. Thanks MrContrive for sharing this. I also put a bulldog clip on the detached part, no need now even for epoxy, no problem any more.

I have never in my life have opened my laptop from the side, i have only opened from the top. It is still a 2 year old laptop. But facing the same issue in DELL Inspiron 3511
On the side where the hinge is broken, the display bracket is not connected with the hinge. When you open the lid, the display is not balanced, so one side is not connected, so the possibility of damage to the display is increased... the other thing is that you need to loosen the hinge. If it is done, it will break again
Hej, I´m planning to repair my laptop hinge with the procedure showed in the video...What do you mean by "loosen the hinge. If it is done, it will break again" ? Thanks
@@MsKingchrist I think he means you need to put some oil on the hinge to loosen it up. If you dont do it, the epoxy glue cannot hold the laptop for long because of the stiff hinge. Now Im trying to find wtf kinda oil I have to use. I saw some use fastrax but thats not available around me.... Maybe wd40 works
Ok thanxs for ur reply, now I get it, it makes sense, I’ll try to oil the hinge…by the way…in the meantime I did the repair like on the video and its worked! The glue is holding now since couple of weeks. So I’m happy it worked
Note: this issue that affects lots of laptops regardless of price is due to the hinge tension being slightly too tight causing excess strain on the plastic which breaks over time. The hinges seem to get stiffer to move over time. The fix is when you get a new laptop , get access to the hinges by removing the screen bevel ( it pries off easily ) and loosen the nut on both hinges so they are less stiff to move but not too loose so there still is some support for the screen. The laptop makers don't care about this issue and often will refuse a warrantee repair or add charges for what should be a free repair. With this in mind my suggested fix is something to consider. I have 2 acer laptop and its hinges always breaks in just months. Fvcking laptops this days ewaste of money. I solve this problem by just building a pc.
I did mine like he is showing--careful not to over epoxy, otherwise it will bulge. Anyway some of the screws are stripped from the cover. I could buy a new cover; but it also may be now that it is epoxied down I must buy new hinges. If there are problems in the hinge bezel, then that will have to be replaced. For now, I'm just going to leave it open on my desk. I may just buy a monitor, and make it 1, and leave it open. I don't need to carry this everywhere. Nitro 5 you did a crappy job on the cover!

Hey guys. I don't have such a severe problem but I think it's going to evolve to become the same so should I wait until it's no longer closable or should I fix now. Another question, the only requirement for this repair is the glue right? Or should I buy another part as well?
