One way that I learned how to get proper trigger pull was taking a spent case & balancing it on my front post while I held it up in firing position. If you pull the trigger properly it’ll stay balanced. If you use to little finger or to much finger it’ll fall to the right or left. Or if you’re jerking the trigger instead of having a smooth pull it’ll fall of the post. This helped me when I started shootings & had shots going slightly left of the center line because I was using too much of my finger on the trigger.
great tip vid. i had alot of issue with the follow through. i kept on releasing all the way and my shot would go low and to the left. Another thing here i didnt notice you touch on which i struggled with was the amount of tense pressure my strong hand would give vs pressure my weak hand gave. If your strong arm is too tense and in fact too strong it will cause a sway effect due to the anticipation if the recoil.

Excellent video. Exactly the same stuff I'm currently learning in a 3-day Combat Pistol Class. After 26+ years of doing things a certain way on the job; this Old Dog had to learn some new tricks. Rewiring my muscle memory to shoot with my feet parallel and arms straight out was a Bįţçh. But I finally got it ! BTW, your trick with practicing on the tiny target silhouette is great. It's something that can be done anywhere. Keep up the good work !

That is called a center hold. When in the military shooting the National Match course for the U.S. Army I used a 6 o'clock hold, either on the bottom of the 9 ring or at the bottom of a full or partial silhouette, when using iron sights. For combat during war, some other type of competition, and hunting game I use the center hold that you use, obviously before changing my point of hold to correct for atmospherics for a fast shot at range. I've looked at some vids on correct pistol shooting grip and your is the first I heard talk about pulling the trigger with just the tip of the trigger finger. Glad I watched this vid as I just bought my first handgun and havent shot it yet. I am going for instruction in 2 days and that tip was something I woulda never thought of. Thnx 😀
It always comes down to fundamentals. Always! I noticed I was hitting low and left more often than not. Mind you.. I was trained by the United States Army, so I'm not a stranger to guns. My primary weapon was an AR-15, which I have one of those too. But my issue pistol shooting, was I didn't have my wrist straight. It had the barrel pointing slightly low. Once I fixed it, I was putting pretty decent groupings together. Now with that 556.. I'm a whole different beast!
just learn 2 trigger motion. slightly put pressure on trigger until it stops.then aim and shoot.this is the most important thing you must learn to have accuracy.
Great "how to", but a beginners course is where you explain the why of something. Many shooting Instructors get this wrong, as you just did when you said, "we arent going to get into that." Professional instruction is about education and the reasons why we do what we do, is just as important as doing it. Explain why the high grip, explain why the weak hand cups the strong and why the grip is covered both sides, explain why we stay focused on the target, explain why we go front sight, then rear sight, explain the trigger pull and whats happening during that pull. I would say to make this a first time shooting a gun video and make another one as a part 2 for the second time a person shoots a gun. That way its an Instructional video series on how to shoot a gun for beginners.
I have a tiny DB9. It was jamming at first but that was due to me "limp wristing" when I was shooting. Now it feeds flawlessly. My rounds are hitting low and to the left. I know it's my trigger pull. The recoil of the DB9 is such that the trigger guard bangs against my index finger when I shoot it. It's a good little gun but it takes a lot of practice to shoot it accurately. My Barretta is a little easier to shoot accurately. Thanks for the video. I learned a few things and I will practice them next time I go to the range.

In the german military cold shots ( discharging a pistol without a cartridge in the chamber ) is forbidden. The fireing pin can break or get stuck. Training ammo with a rubber cushion for the fireing pin is availiable.
An Isoceles has both feet the same distance from the target. This gives you equal balance regardless of which direction you turn. The force of a handgun going off wont affect your balance.
CncObsession ....All goes back to your training, 19 years ago weaver stance...today isosceles.....all what you are comfortable with. In the end..."the mind will never go where it has not been".... so do what works for you, as long as your rounds are hitting their mark....
I would only add/change that the gun shouldn't come up when you're acquiring your sight picture. You should be moving the gun forward from a high chest position so that it's always pointed at the target. This drastically reduces the time required to dress up the sight picture. It also makes it easier to transition into learning how to draw.
The first knuckle is recommended. If you use the pad thr trigger wont b as crisp and your more likely to either flinch or pull the gun to another side. This is for all shooting. I shoot trap for my school and when I learned about this my average went up by a lot. Great vid!!!

That's all well and good, providing your back sight is inline with the front. I go as far as to take the back sight off to insure I get good with just the front sight. Then put it back on.
Most Excellent, In the 60's in Navy boot camp our chief gave everyone a pistol sight picture on cardboard to look at and told to look at with both eyes open at arm's length for weeks before range time, all 80 shot perfect at quals. As far as rifles every Marine has to qualify at 500 yards with iron sights, just try 100 yards with iron sights, we are so spoiled with scopes!!!
Some extra tip i saw from navy seals basically how you hold the pistol matters greatly, def practice your grip. Plenty navy seal videos on that subject.
MAN! I've searched far and wide to find this, just what I needed. Especially the points about pulling the trigger straight back and keeping the trigger back after firing to get back on site. I'm new and went to the range last week and my shots were way off and I couldn't understand why, I mean I thought the site was on the target, but maybe when pulling the trigger I pulled away from it? Very good video. One suggestion, on the trigger reset towards end, you might show gun from side so people can see that you are just releasing finger until the click, not letting trigger all the way out. Nice video, thanks.

I've watched every episode of "American Airgunner" & every other air gun video I could find on You Tube. I've never seen anyone line up the shot with the camera as clearly as you did...
I'm going to try you tips next week. I keep pulling most of my shots to the left and I'm a right handed shooter. Looking at you video I think it maybe the way I pull the trigger.
the thing that is wrong with this video is that it does not account for what happens when you fire like this with a glock right handed. The slide has a tendency to lock and stovepipe from improper cycling if the thumbs ride that high. riding with low thumbs will cause the gun to move more when the trigger is squeezed but will keep the slide from locking. otherwise this video hits the nail on the head for fundamentals. 9.5/10
I'm not even a big Glock fan, but the Glock gun line is very well done. The issues are with the shooters technique, or the technique is too good. There are the two grip related issues with feeding. 1) With your high and tight grip, your thumbs are leaning against the slide tensed up against the slide resisting the slides regular functions slowing it down. Solution: Your thumbs are not required and should be recommended NOT *to be tightened around the slide. This is unnecessary. The thumbs are just kind of there, and should not being assisting in grip or for recoil reduction. 2)Using an isometric grip so hard, on large, usually males with high muscle density, causing NO recoil to the gun whatsoever. Solution: Loosen that grip up, Just because someones a body builder doesn't mean it needs to be held with the worlds strongest grip...just enough to get the job done as Browning action pistols rely on recoil to cycle. "Limp wristing" is common among new shooters but a Glock usually doesn't have that problem...however if the tolerances change the more its used over time its hard to say how it would perform.

Sight radius is sometimes and issue with smaller handguns. Its nothing good technique can't handle however to help you in self diagnosing your personal training, look into smaller sight radius.
@Ricky Lawrence, My friend.. muscle does Not have or contain memory... The Neuropathways are developed. Also , to obtain them nice tight 2" 25 yard shot groups..I recommend aiming ( sight picture/sight alignment), breath control and grip.
Stance is extremely important, and secondary only to grip. If you want to mitigate felt recoil in a controlled environment, isosceles is by far the best stance. It’s SIMPLE physics.

A speed shooter would say do not pin the trigger after the shot. Release the trigger, pull sites back down on target and engage.
