    I would have spray painted the corner hardware with gold. I don't think there's anything prettier than navy paint and gold metal accents.

    They look really good with the brackets. I personally would not have painted these. But they Look brand new! Looks like you achieved the look you were going for and they look great.
    I'm painting a desk that has been around for 7 or years and has taken a beating and spilled on and drawn on (it became the art desk.) But thanks for the CALCIUM CARBONATE TIP!! I love a good worn in rustic look... but only if it's from years of "gentle abuse." THANKS!

    That was an excellent video!!! I have learned so much from your painting techniques. I love the result and I too would have taken the rustic hardware off and put modern gold pulls on the drawers. But for a boys room, the original hardware would be great. Can you add the calcium carbonate to paint if youre going to use just a brush or roller? Is that only for the sprayer? Great suggestion.

    Yes I would have left off the corner black hardware! But lovely makeover. I have also used up some latex paint mixing in calcium carbonate and gotten great results. Next week I will be painting a dresser In Sage green paint I make up from left over yellow and blue latex paint. Why spend $ on new paint when this trick works well.

    My husband painted solid wood nighstands. He scuff sanded them, then he primed them with shellac primer, then he sanded them & painted them with latex paint. He sanded and painted them with latex paint again and sanded & painted them with latex paint again. Then he sanded them and placed polyurethane over them. He used a spray gun for each step but the paint is chipping. 🙈 How can he fix it without having to start all over again? Btw: they weren’t used until 4 days later.

    For those of you who add the calcium carbonate to the latex paint, are you all spraying it or can it also be brushed/rolled on? Is there a ratio to use or consistency to watch out for? I've never done this but need to use some leftover household paint before I get to splurge on the fun stuff 🙄 Thanks in advance!

    • @keirgazelle2451
      @keirgazelle2451 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Mix it well with some warm water before adding it to the paint...and you certainly can use brushes. I usually use Plaster of Paris with flat latex paint... You can use a regular top coat or wax. If you use wax make sure the paint was a flat...that will go deeper into your chalky paint and seal. The shinier the paint the less the wax will work.
      The recipe for both are the same...Plaster of Paris or CC is 2 Tablespoons Calcium Carbonate Powder.
      2 Tablespoons Plaster of Paris.
      Tablespoons warm water.
      2 cups paint.
      I use an old mixer to mix the POP and water then add my paint.

    Behr ultra is acrylic latex! It does feel different than paints that are only latex without an acrylic formula

    • @ARayofSunlight

  • @JenkinsTish

    I notice you didn’t smooth out the scuffs and spots that had been a bit marred prior to painting. Why was that? Does latex paint adhere any differently to wood filler?

    • @ARayofSunlight
      @ARayofSunlight  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      She liked the rustic look of the wood. So I left it. It would have been a pain to fill all of that in too.

  • @serviceproper

    I’ve been mixing calcium carbonate with latex paint to make my own chalk paint for years now. But it doesn’t mix well with trim type latex paints. Such as the emerald urethane. Or something with more gloss in it like a satin. The magnolia brand paints it doesn’t mix well with. So I always try a small bit first…. It just gets where it doesn’t spread well. Hard to explain.

    • @ARayofSunlight
      @ARayofSunlight  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for your feedback!
      Emerald urethane is an alkyd paint, so that makes sense as to why it doesn’t work with that.
      This latex paint was semi gloss sheen I believe. So it does work with the different sheens. I usually use flat because it’s cheaper and adheres better anyway.
      I’ve never used magnolia paints though and have no knowledge about them so I couldn’t explain that one.

    Pardon my ignorance..what is the difference between this shellac and the BIN primer? Does the shellac have less of a smell? 🙏🏻

    • @ARayofSunlight
      @ARayofSunlight  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Clear shellac is the base in BIN shellac primer.
      Bin shellac has more things in it and has better bonding properties.
      Clear shellac has the same smell as bin shellac though.

    • @ARayofSunlight

      No, most sprayers aren’t able to spray shellac because of it’s low flash point (the temperature where it can combust).
