    We lived in Fairfax for 5 years and moved to California, I missed Fairfax a lot! It’s so cozy and beautiful small town, and yet very modern with lots of places for shopping and not getting bored.

    Lived there most of my life.....some things he HASN'T told you....you need to be making at least $100 thousand a year to live comfortably and own a home. Also, there are no "short trips". All trips to shopping etc, plan on an all day drive. Traffic is HORRIBLE and crime is getting close to that level, although its not as bad as some other areas of Fairfax County.

    This video is so informative, I love it man keep the great content, I am trying to move from Florida to Fairfax and I am very concerned about the weather, do you remember how hard was it to adjust from the tropical weather of Florida to the mountain weather of Virginia?

    • @LivinginNorthernVirginia
      @LivinginNorthernVirginia  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jose Miguel, I lived in Jacksonville when I was in Florida and it got pretty cold there during the winter. So it was an easy adjustment. But if your coming from South Florida or Central Florida It will be a harder adjustment. Why are you trying to move to Virginia?

    One of my favorite things about NoVA in general is that we have a Microcenter. If we didn’t I’d have to go to Best Buy for my PC parts lol

    I used to live in Old town Fairfax. It’s expensive and you’ll get what you are paying for. Also, GMU isn’t all that anymore because they started to accepted just anyone who wants to attend there even they have poor GPA from HS. Admission office has changed for the last two years and school curriculum is not what it used to be.

    No one should be that happy. Everything he said is spot on, however he left out one major item. Traffic. D.C. Metro/N. Virginia is in the top 5 most congested areas in the United States. If your coming from the mid west, or small rural areas of the country, you really have no idea what this means. No, seriously, you don't have a clue. Driving in the Tysons corner area in Fairfax, or the Springfield area in Fairfax, prepare to sit for hours getting to your destination. This is not an exaggeration. Winter snows, or just rain can and will crush your soul harder then Satan himself. It's a wonderful (and expensive) place to live, but there is a price.

    Thank you for all these videos. I've lived all over the DMV but Leesburg is my home, even though I moved out in 92 when I was a kid. I visit every once in awhile and would love to move back but the wife wouldn't (she's a Cali girl). When I lived in Leesburg, I lived across from the Tally Ho in downtown (I believe it's a Remax office now). I just wanted to say thank you. I miss my old stomping grounds and it's good to see it.

    If people really repped Fairfax as the independent country it is and stop trying to make them towns like McLean and Tyson as independent cities which it's not cause VA counties are basically independent cities so to the fast no independent cities belong to any county Fairfax would be known more world wide is bigger than va Beach with 1.2 million makes it a major city honestly bigger than DC and bmore Fairfax deserves way more respect as far as being a large jurisdiction it's a independent county like Arlington which they'll call a city but keep breaking Fairfax down like the cities are different zones or jurisdictions which they're not and Fairfax is huge and should be called Fairfax county and just that and stop breaking it down all the world can know all them unknown areas are all apart of a huge very known area and watch how much Fairfax really explode with popularity and more fame as a area

    I can recommend living in Fairfax County but I would not recommend living in Fairfax City. I grew up there. I have 35 years of experience living there. It is a small snobbish town that is stringently regulated. The people that run this city don't like low or even middle income people. They want only wealthy high income residents. Also, nobody in the surrounding areas goes to Fairfax City when they wanna go out and have fun. If you wanna go out to a fun place to eat and have a few drinks Fairfax City is not the place to go. Options in the city are too limited. Its boring. There is a large elderly population in Fairfax City. Their idea of having fun and mine are not the same thing. The city also has these parking enforcement people that drive around and walk around neighborhoods slapping tickets on vehicles for anything they can find. It feels creepy having these people stalk you.
    Sometimes someone will have their tags or inspection stickers expire because something came up and they were delayed maybe a week before they could take care of it. As soon as one of those things expire a police officer or parking enforcement will be there to slap a ticket on your windshield. Im talking ONE DAY after something expires. 4:40

  • @TiNahandmade

    Very expensive and overpriced place to live. A single person should at least make 3,000$(net) a month to make the ends meet. One bedroom appartment/condo starts at 1500$(utility is not included.) Then, majority of rental properties have very high annual income requirements, like 60,000$. So, even if you can afford to pay rent, you might not be accepted. The rental agreemens are drafted in the absolute favor of landlords. Theoretically there are number of housing programs in Fairfax county. Yet, practically it is very hard to impossible to get reasonable assistance. I spent days on figuring out how the rental or housing aid works. All I learnt there are long waiting lists or no even wating lists since no units are available. There are jobs in the are. Don't be naive falks! There is high competition on a job market. I love Fairfax county. But, I am very frustrated as an everage working person even with education and experience can easily get to the point of bare surviving. And that is not fair.
