I really recommend always buying property right on a metro line- preferably walking distance. It’s always served me _very_ well.

Public transport SUCKS in Fairfax VA. Fairfax residence works in DC, county collect lots of Property Taxes, & personal Vehicle- CAR taxes, county has no intension of improving PUBLIC transportation. In part 10 years, there is no any addition or improvement in Public Transport. As you mentioned, government Contractors comes & go as President changes, with FAT pay scale, so more attention is given to those than supporting long term stable stay for local. Thanks for bringing these challenges Chris ❤

Yeah, unless you live _and_ work right off a metro line- you really have to have a car here.

*however* there has absolutely been a significant addition to our public transport system- ie the Metro’s entire silver line

Thank you as Condo HOA’s. Unreal their costs. Some have maintained somewhat reasonable, while others such as Worst Service Residential =unethical and extremely questionable

For transportation don’t forget the VRE. Burke Centre, Rolling Road, and Springfield stations. Also Inova hospitals are the Best!

I knew a guy that would literally drive all the way from freaking Fredericksburg (it is that town off 95/17 halfway between FFX and RVA) to Arlington, Monday through Friday bc he worked at the Pentagon. At that point- you might as well just rent a place in Arlington or even stay in DC during the week. I could never make that commute, 20+ times a month. The wear and tear on your vehicle, fuel costs, tolls, parking, potential increase in car insurance, etc could be instead spent on a cheap rental. Even better if you have a friend or family member that would allow you to rent from them for a good price.
I think he was in the Army? Anyhow- it could never be me. I’d make them rent me an apartment near work.

Housing costs have risen much, much faster than salaries in the region. For most people their standard of living will fall dramatically when moving to the area.

So you are saying a quality to avoid in our most expensive investment is the price increasing due to high demand. High price going higher is good. If you buy a house and 10 yrs later it is the same price that feels bad.
