"Arigato-gozaimasu!" for watching SUMO PRIME TIME. We appreciate your comments about Tamawashi's triumph at the September tournament. We're also glad that you got to see the behind-the-scenes handshake between the two championship contenders; Tamawashi and Takayasu. As many of you pointed out, I also loved seeing the true sportsmanship Takayasu showed after suffering such a gut-wrenching loss to Tamawashi. I have a feeling that in the near future Takayasu will trade places and that he will be the one who embraces the Emperor's Cup on the final day. We're already looking forward to the next grand tournament in November and let's hope that the upper echelons will all be back in tip top shape and make their presence felt in strong fashion. We'll have more coverage of sumo during the month of October, so please join us again on SUMO PRIME TIME! See you soon!!
I certainly hope that Takayasu can finally wrap his hands around the cup! He's so good when he gets going. Sometimes I feel that he gets in his own way sometimes. Hopefully though, wins from Tamawashi and Ichinojo can inspire him.
He looked basically unbeatable about a year back. I've only been watching sumo for about a year, but I've seen Teru's decline in real time, and it's a sad sight.
Tamawashi is a worthy winner, and such a cool dude on top of that--a beast on the dohyo and a gentle giant off it. It was nice to see such good sportsmanship from Takayasu. The respect the rikishi show each other is one of the things I love most about sumo. What happens on the dohyo stays on the dohyo. Hiro, I can't agree with your assessment of Terunofuji. The man can barely walk, and it seems likely that he will need surgery. Apparently, the condition of at least one knee is such that injections won't suffice. I am fine with him taking as much time off as necessary, and I hope that we don't see him in November. He needs more time than that to recover. In fact, if he needs to take January as well, I am all for it. We need him. No one is close to replacing him. Takakeisho should be more of a threat to win the Cup, but at least he got 10 wins and showed up for work every day. I am not sure what to think about Mitakeumi; that shoulder may still be bothering him. If that is the issue, I hope he can recover. Shodai, though--he doesn't seem to care, as long as he can hold onto his rank and salary. He'll get his KK in November. So what else is new? I hope that Wakatakakage's performance this basho was a sign of things to come. 11-4 is an excellent score and a legitimate start to an ozeki run. Hopefully he will be able to get off to a better start in November. There has been a fair amount of parity in the lower san'yaku and the joi, so someone is going to have to separate himself from the pack.
Shodai has been affected by long-covid-related issues for a while now, including a pervasive fatigue that doesn't seem to go away. You can see it in his face after every defeat: He knows he's good enough, but his body just won't let him perform to the best of his abilities.
Man seeing Takayasu lose it at the very top twice in a year hurts... But Tamawashi really deserves that championship. I would also like to mention that Midorifuji did very well even after being thrust straight into M1!
That smile Takayasu gives Tamawashi backstage is so warm and genuine. For all his amazing abilities, this is a feat of grace someone like Hakuho could never accomplish.
What a class act Takayasu is. I am a bigger fan of him now than ever before. The Ozekis are not doing their jobs, with Mitakeumi being demoted to Sekiwake and Shodai going kadoban in November, but to say that Terunofuji is not doing his seems a bit harsh to me. What we are seeing is what many of us fans have suspected all along, and that is his knees are ticking time bombs just waiting to go off. Now, the question is, how long does he really have left as an active rikishi? Thank you for your great coverage.
I think Takakeisho deserves his spot. He keeps getting winning records but he's at his peak. He's not going any higher and as soon as a serious injury happens, because his build is so heavy for his frame I'm sadly sure he will get hurt at some point, he's going down and I doubt he'll make it that high again. But right now he's where he should be, but yeah the top Ozeki should be winning if the Yokozuna drops out so considering that he is failing to live up to his rank.
Well, Terunofuji's "job" is to challenge for the title as long as he can, for he is the yokozuna. This time he was unable to do so. We know he's got plenty power to do it when fit; hopefully by January he will be able to do so (so far it seems like he'll be unable to compete in November). The ozeki (save for 'Keisho) are not doing their job as of late. So, it's time for a change. And change's slowly but surely making its way up the banzuke. Next year, we will see a lot of young blood entering contention for ozeki (Wakatakakage's banging at the door already, while Hoshoryu and Kiribayama have it within arm's reach as well). Hopefully, they will be up to the task, and may not only meet the expectations of the ozeki, but reach further beyond!
Love this channel, and love the sport. Been following it closely since 2016. Gotta love all the new content for those of us who unfortunately don't speak Japanese! Love from Argentina
Great tournament, at least for the lower ranks. Great to see Tamawashi win, and by just imposing his style on his opponents. Not many rikishi who can be successful like that, which really speaks to his skill. I feel bad for Terunofuji. Would like to see him to 10 championships, but wonder how long his knees can take it. And boy do we need these up and coming youngsters to shine. Nothing against the ozekis, but I think they have all proven they can't maintain the level of performance needed. Time to make way for Wakatakakage, Kiribayama, and the rest of these talented stars on the rise. Thank you for the great coverage!
Takakeisho is my favorite but he seems to have found his peak. He keeps getting winning records but just can't get over the hump to prove he really has it and constantly win championships. I think he'll hold Ozeki for a long time to come if he doesn't get injured because he's good enough to hold that spot but not good enough to surpass it to Yokozuna. I honestly don't know who is going to rise up to the top out of the current top division.
Thanks for continuing to create these videos! My friends and I are really enjoying your content. I'll be there next year in May; please record me saying "Sumo Prime Time"
Hopefully Wakatakagage can keep it up and be Ozeki within the next few tournaments. The current stock is below par. I have faith in Wakamotoharu as well.
He's Yokozuna level lately. It would be so great if he keeps this level of performances the next few basho. Imagine if he wins the next yusho in Nov. What a guy.
This was such a fun basho to watch!!! It would be cool to have it in English, but I like watching in Japanese and trying to learn some of the language Tamawashi definitely earned that yusho! I think the waka-bros are someone to keep an eye on. Wakatakazeki?
Takakeisho will win Nov. He's just been charging up his strength to finish the year off with a win. Takayasu is looking in good form, he might not have gotten the wins to be in the lead but he looks like he's about to break out soon.
I think it's too easy to simply shift blame on the Yokozuna and the Ozeki for not winning more tournaments, we don't know what goes on behind the scenes. Then it's also a delight to see lower ranked wrestlers being able to put on such impressive performences.
We just have a reallyclose competitive environment. I like it! I do believe the current ozeki (especially shodai) are due to be replaced. It's hard to say who will do it! I would bet wakatakakage
Tamawashi, great fighting spirit ! I get energy from you. I'm looking forward to November Basho. Good luck to all sumo wrestlers. Especially Shoudai…Cheer up ! I'm rooting for you *\(^o^)/*
To be entirely fair about the Yokozuna and Ōzeki, they're all suffering from various health problems that are holding them back, those being severely injured knees (Terunofuji), long covid (Shodai and probably Mitakeumi), and too much weight for their body frame (Takakeisho). Personally, I genuinely hope that Teru gets the much needed surgery on his knees and sits out the next 1-2 bashos to fully recover. As for Shodai and Mita, one can only hope that their fatigue issues will run their course at some point. And the Hamster™️ just needs to take it easy on the chanko in order to regain some semblance of agility.
With the exception of 2, most are too evenly matched. An injury or even pressure can throw the others off and that is it for them. I see a number of Ozek contenders rearing their heads in the next few bashos. If the council plays harder, we will have a ferris wheel of movement at that level.
I’m so happy seeing the Iron man win a yusho after having his attendance record broken by the Covid exposure. Also quit bashing Terunofuji. He can’t perform well because his knees are destroyed. Mitaki has a destroyed shoulder. The hungry hungry hamster has a bad neck. The only ozeki who seems to be physically OK is Shodai. The JSA needs to treat their injured champions better if they expect longevity.
The JSA DID NOT BREAK HIS ATTENDANCE RECORD. IT STILL STANDS. Guess you believe Chris Sumo's made up drama. Tamawashi's unbroken attendance record still stands!! This is OLD news.

Takayasu is really a great sportsman, congrars to Tamawashi
Yokozuna Terunofuji would dominate this post Hakuho-Era without his damn injured knees. Hope he will take his time and come back strong.
He looked basically unbeatable about a year back. I've only been watching sumo for about a year, but I've seen Teru's decline in real time, and it's a sad sight.
Good to see the official JSA channel calling out the Y/O performances and not doing propaganda spin.
Tamawashi's legwork together with strong pushing attacks is impressive
Beautiful sportsmanship by the Yasu-Bear. His time is coming
I love Papa Tama sooo much. I hope once he retires he can open his own bakery and make cupcake all day loll

Hiro Morita! Thank you for being the face of this program, you give it class and authority for sure!
Hello Hiro and SUMO PRIME TIME, I wish you could make a video about the daily routine of rikishi while the tournament is under way.
Arigato sayonara ☺
Nishikifuji is quite impressive in the lasts two tournaments. Keeping an eye on him!

Oh yeah, I just realized that the Waka brothers were the only ones who managed to defeat Tamawashi, that's awesome! 😃
I noticed that as well. That stable had found a weakness by the looks of it.

He is a great and beats Teru often but a guy with only one double digit score in the last 7 tournaments is certainly not close to Yokozuna level.

This was such a fun basho to watch!!!

Muchas gracias
My favourite wrestler tamawashi and seems like a nice man🤼🤼❤️
Damn Tama, you a beast! Keep on going!
