  • Following on from my reaction vid from the GW Price Increase article, here is a PROPER good ol' fashioned GGG chat. Hairy, Lairy and and lil bit sweary
We roped in our mate Mike for another perspective and as is tradition ended up discussing not only the hike but loads of other nonsense too.
If you like what we do then please, give us a like a share and maybe even a sub!

Meanwhile I just took delivery of Chaplain Dreadnought with all weapon options, Land Raider 30k, Predator 30k and a Terminator Captain. $100 to my mate with a printer.

As an American, looking at the price differential from the UK to the US is a big punch to the stomach.
I’ve only been in the hobby 6 years, but I fell in love with The Old World setting almost immediately.
The re release of fantasy was such a boon to my morale as a customer, but their recent behavior with lore retcons (Custodes and female Bretonnian knights especially) has set a permanent tone that they’ll never shake off.
Add the price rises and I’m basically done.
Satyr Art Studio is a great company for Oldhammer models fyi. Hand sculpted, cast in pewter.
He’s doing goblins as we speak.

what annoys me is it should not be that high as toys are not usually taxed coming into the US, and we don't have a 20% VATS tax like the UK or EU.
edit: going to have to check out satyr

@@rmkarros yeah, that heavy a tax on a luxury item makes no sense to me.
Satyr also has Rogue Trader style sci-fi minis, including squats, demons, and chaos sisters of battle.
He’s got plenty more, but that’s off the top of my head.

@@scoticvsgossage9378 Are you really that surprised government official being clueless about wargames (or, as ex-government worker, literally everything) and seeing stupid headlines like "Warhammer sets cost $10 000!" won't slap luxury goods tax on it?

I love how GW insists that the Femstodes are now a thing. For inclusion. But the Super elite army (Custodes) the very thing that could shake off GWs financial doldrums, with a super accessible, elite army, to entice new players with a much lower buy in option.
GW just did and jacked up the prices.
GW needs to be inclusive by lowering the barrier of entry. Working in a store that sells GW product. I can tell you honestly. Ive seen a hundred kids fall in love with Warhammer at first sight. Then when their hand is on the box, they fall out of love at the price.

Is it the kids that fall out or the parents? Genuinely curious to know. I think EVERY faction should have a few ETB dirt cheap units at the very least.

Just an anecdote but in my town in the US there are two game stores, both with good traffic and community. In both stores, I have seen the same GW products on the shelves for months and months. In store 1 the only new products they got were Old World rulebooks only, no models, while the 40k and Sigmar products have been sitting on the shelves for months. At store 2, the actual on the shelf selection of GW products is very small. They also sell used, assembled models at Store 2 and those have been the same as far as I can tell for several months and the prices are actually fair and in some cases a good deal. I just don't see the product moving at these stores compared to TCGs and board games. I am personally completely priced out of GW games and at this point no longer care because many sectors the community and drastic lore changes by the company have sucked any interest I had, even though I still have some sentimental attachment to 40k as it got me into miniature wargaming.

Last year I had a family holiday to Disney in Florida. Disney really does not understand how to sell Star Wars merch. Fuck all for a adult male fan of the franchise but lots of Lounge fly bags and other over priced cutesy crap.

@@GrumpyGrognardGaming GW are clearly trying to retain or get older fans back with releases like Horus Heresy and the return of the Old World. At least the products match the target market and not a made up fantasy demographic.

I'm first to poop on GW and how they run their business in the last 20 years (if not earlier, but I started 40k as wee lad in early 2000s. The minis are fine tho), but after looking at O and S scale/gauge/whatever (it's 1/48-1/64, with GW being about 1/60-ish scale) model trains for 40k terrain project I ALMOST have to say their prices are fairly reasonable compared to some scale models, especially chunky one piece model people in those scales.
    Almost.

I can buy car for price of 40k ork army. AoS is in better place as you can do elite lists in almost any army, my 1k nurgle list is like 8 models.

Quick question, what is the best and blackest black paint ? Im running into trouble with my Dark Angels 30k. I use a black spray ,a cheap hardware store can that is super dark . The problem is if I need to use GW, Vallejo or Army Painter black later to touch up after edge highlighting, it comes out as far less black.

    • @PeteOfDarkness
      @PeteOfDarkness 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

Black gesso (from liquitex, or other, cheaper brand) is nice super black matte paint sold in bulk. It cost about as much per ml as Vallejo airbrush primers (slightly more expensive for slightly bigger container) and can be brushed on (it's literally "black primer" for canvas).
If you need good paint for minor jobs, I had great experience with Pro Acryl Titanium White, and I expect their black is also good.
And if you need something SUPER dark, one trick is to use GLOSS paint and then dull it down from top (so shiny stuff stays in recesses/underside and not reflect light from top). There is no other way, most matte paints just scatter some light with their rough surface rather than absorb it 100% (or 99.99% like Blackest paints do).

It’s always funny to me when people talk about how hard 3d printing is. Just today I printed off 10 assault intercessors and 6 inceptors with plasma and bolsters.
It’s not that hard I promise.
