The scariest thing about any non contemporary historical setting would be the lack of antibiotics. The germs would get ya way before anything else does.
Well, at least in the Witcher if you are lucky to be born wealthy enough or lucky with your friendships you can get a good mage or herbalist to compensate for it.
Yeah I agree. It would be horrible thinking about how many times antibiotics have literally saved my life. I would have died before I graduated high school for sure.
unfortunately, even in our word without magical creatures, people, etc. We have third world countries, wars in the middle east, wars in European & Asian countries, that are constantly going on that can be described as some of the same situations that you mention.
Wonder how Yennefer would handle Radovid's tyrannical rule of Redenia allied with the Witch Hunters and the Eternal Flame against sorcerers and sorceresses? Surely, she could be Triss's best asset, aiding and abetting other fugitive mages and such.
I would just go live in a run-down boat on the island of undvik, I'd have my crew to keep me company and an ice giant to feed me while I fix the boat with nails and twine! Sounds good to me!
If we go by game standards it would be very harsh. Book universe tho is a bit more reserved with how many monsters roam around (also no supernatural white frost in the book universe) so all in all it would be pretty average medieval life I say with a fantasy twist.
You guys forgot one pivotal reason for no one ever wanting to live/exist in the Witcher universe... the Wild Hunt! The possibility of having your village raided and the best outcome that could happen to you as the result of; is being kidnapped by terrifying murdering "specters" on skeletal horses... yeah no thanks 😅
thanks but i think it's obvious enough. especially if you were born at that exact wolrd and time, it's not about what you want at all. you simply just live and become incredibly resilient which isn't strange at all since everyone is forced to do the same thing. to survive is in our DNA, if humans in the witcher world are the same as humans in the real world. i prefer your world history video series by the way, i hope there will be more in the future.
Well I don’t want to be some human living in the Witcher world I want to be a Witcher living in the Witcher world. A mage is also acceptable or screw it I’ll be a dragon 🐉🔥

First thing that came to my mind when I discovered the books and games, was the similitude of TW world with the events ocurred during the "Northern Crusades" when the Teutonic Order invaded the todays Lithuanian territories and the religious/cultural clash that ocurred in that region, allong with the strugle against other christians, the Kingdom of Poland😒. So AS and CDPR, spiced all of that with more magic, disease and monsters over war adding other social conflicts, that is why Geralt ended the way he did in the books, to show us that nobody could be save, or survive in that world if had a bad day...well, if I have to pick a character to be in there, maybe I would choose Odrin, seems he survives all the crap around always having a good time🤷♂️😁👍
Huh, at least i`d more interesting than living in our world. Can already imagine sitting around a bonfire with my Scoi`tael homies. Or as the safest option serving at Francescas court in Dol Blathanna
I don't think death by monsters are still as commun as before Geralt time. Geralt is even a bit upset about how ordinary peoples deal efficiently with their monsters nowadays and don't even want to kill them anymore XD There is even monsters learning to live among humans without problems. Not that you're wrong but maybe a little exagerating. 5:26 I wouldn't say it's a all-time high. Before the Second War, the Non-humans were more or less well integrated into humans society and mages did put many efforts into minimising racisms and pogroms. 5:53 I'm pretty sure it wasn't that extreme before the war. Or even after. I mean, in the books, most non-humans who were killed were not just randomly killed in the street, it was still considered a crime to do so... even if a relatif one. I mean, really, if what you said was true then the elves, the Vrans, the Bobbolaks and halflings would be long extinct logically. 8:17 Didn't Yennefer said that mages were working to make the use of teleportation a ordinary commodity ? That might have been words in the winds though but that would prove mages are not so indifferents. 9:53 I thought it was a giant centipede monster ? I don't think the Church of the Eternal Fire is the most proeminent religion of the Continent. (I think that's the religion of the Great Sun). They seems to be mostly located in Novigrad. 16:00 How could magic not help against plagues and diseases ? 17:40 Let's not exagerate, Nothing said the Sorcerers were or would remain powerless and it was a pandemic episode, not something that happen every years.

Still would want to live there. I'd immediately go to Kaer Morhen and claim it for myself seeing as Geralt, Eskel, and Lambert have abandoned it. Shore up the walls and there's plenty of room for plants and animals for food. Wouldn't have to leave the safety of the keep. 🤷♂️
Good luck with finding the caste. As opposed to what netflix had shown Kaer Morhem is hidden from outide world and not many nonwitchers know it's location.
The woods surrounding Kaer Morhen are filled with monsters, who migth inhabit it. Good luck clearing them out, it is a perfect place for nekkers or foglets, maybe even some harpies or ekhidnas to make a nest.

There's cannibalism behind the scenes, when food is scarce and famine is rampant in certain areas.
