According to the Australian institute of marine science (AIMS) coral cover is at a record high in the GBRMP but it’s always upsetting to see a dead zone.
@@stevehartley8162 It's been sad for me to experience dead zones and incredibly warm water (80 F at 100 ft. on the Great Mesoamerican Reef, Belize) off the Florida coast and all over the Carribean.Climate crisis, ocean acidification.Sadly, it's global.
Loving this beach, James inspired me to learn to sail. I am about to finish rya level.2 in the UK, next is VHF radio and then competent crew, I will crew for a year then I am off! Thanks James.
Great video - thanks for sharing your life! And speaking of which, just saw your and Rhonda's interview on Attitudes/Latitudes - very interesting and informative. I enjoyed it very much.

First of all James and Rhonda, this episode had a brilliant choice of music. I don't usually comment about the music, but the choice was supremo. At about the 5.15/5.20 mark was a guitar playing.! Who was that.? Loved it. This journey of Tritea, makes for great viewing folks. I'm loving it. Thank you for sharing. Take care team. Atb from across the ditch.
Thanks 🙏🏻 I really liked the snorkel music, it had a James Bond feel 😂 I pay for a music service so none of the songs are actual bands, just musicians who make music for movies/ tv/ content
I snorkelled Great Keppel in the late 1970s. It was an absolutely stunning coral reef with abundant life of all sorts. Heaps of turtles , rays, sharks and hundreds of types of tropical fish . It is so disappointing to see what it is now.
We, Australians are unforgivable for the way we've neglected the reef. Must make it easier having another set of hands on the boat? 🙂 Bundaberg ginger beer is pretty good.
Gret Keppel and other islands have coral respawning annually. Coral spawning usually occurs on the nights after the full moon in October, November, or December, depending on the reef's location. Inshore reefs typically spawn in October, while outer reefs spawn in November or December.
Hi guys, I know you’re heading to Indo, but skipping Western Australia is a mistake imho, the Ningaloo Reef System is beautiful and for the most part, relatively unharmed despite being accessible in a small Tinnie from the beach. There are zones where the reef is as pristine as it ever was. Sadly, GBR is no longer the jewel it once was back in the 70’s and 80’s, mostly dead from river runoff, over touristing and fishing. As always, good winds and following seas. 🤙
Honestly, the water isn't chilly it's 23+ degrees Celsius, and you can swim all day long.. The GBR is in general in excellent condition but in some areas is affected by local issues that change over time like river flooding events pushing out into the ocean.
Not according to Science it isn’t in excellent condition. And we have swam a tons of sights in the GBR and it’s in bad shape everywhere we went www.aims.gov.au/monitoring-great-barrier-reef/gbr-condition-summary-2022-23
Wobbegongs are aggressive if provoked. Won't bother you if you leave them alone. Lots of news articles online about people getting nipped. Once they latch onto you, you have a friend for a while, they like to hang on like a pitbull.
Other than them increasing the price by 70% on a whim when I got here and the absurd hassle of having to “resell” it to myself when I change countries. But the connectivity is generally reliable

Glad I was stoned, watching this one!

It was for sure in the worst shape of all the places we visited
You're so right about the Bundy ginger beer, it should be world famous as it tastes as good as home made ginger beer.
It’s the only ginger beer people drink in Los Angeles too!
Thanks
Very sad that the coral is dying 😏🤔✌
We have seen it all over the Great Coral Reef, heart breaking

seriously sad to hear about the coral ugh.... The good ship Triteia is defs in my top 5 sailing channels on the tube, cheers to another great video!

That coral is dead and won’t respawn
James, get yourself a small bouy with a dive flag for those jet skiers.
Honeymooned there in 1980. 🎉😊
Nawwwww how adorable!
Signs warning of bombing, not welcoming. Beautiful Beaches you can see in the morning, VERY welcoming. Have fun guys.

How good is Bundy ginger beer!
I always drank it in LA also, it’s the best!

Where the hell do you get your stock music from? its really good stuff.

Dead corral = 😒
Bombing range on beautiful shoreline. Pretty sure Australia has some expansive, barren desert better suited for that sort of thing.
👍
