UNBELIEVABLE: Great White Shark Literally Bites my Sailboat!! 😲 (Episode 266)
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 27 มิ.ย. 2024
- We sail from Dunedin to Stewart Island, and stop at Edwards Island where we happen to meet a cage diving boat. Next thing we know there are 5-7 great white sharks circling the boat, and one takes a little chunk out of our transom!
SV Parlay is a hurricane damaged Lagoon 450 catamaran, which Colin rebuilt with friends and has started sailing around the world. We found bulkhead damage on their catamaran in Panama, so have fixed her up, and are now sailing across the Pacific Ocean!!

As I diver I am not fond of this cage diving practice, well I guess the cage is not the problem, but the chumming.
I was diving in the Red Sea last year in waters with oceanic white tips and other sharks. It is amazing to witness them in the water. They are majestic at a distance, but we do not want to encourage them to come close to divers by associating us with food.
I've been diving for over 20 years. There is one thing I learned about diving in waters with large predators.. don't. If you get caught in a bad situation in a long safety stop dive... you are a sitting duck. You don't feed ANY predator (not just sharks...) because not only do they associate divers with food but because of their large size you can easily be bitten or attacked. Conservation ( justly or not...) has increased shark numbers to the point where some areas I used to dive I no longer frequent. Don't put your life in someone else's hands. They are there for money... not you. Think it's just mistaken identity? Try this: th-cam.com/video/sUhdHQlUJi0/w-d-xo.html . It's not about mistaken... wrong place... wrong time... wrong activity... you're on the menu.
The oceanic white tips in egypt like to hang out around the dive boats, too. Guess why.
Hello, I wanted to share this. I lost my dog last night to a tragic accident. My wife told me to watch something that would make me smile and forget. I came to this channel. Great Episode as usual. Thanks, SPR!
I’m so sorry for you loss. Dogs are angels
I’m so sorry for your loss@the tingle I have lost 5 fur babies in my lifetime and all are tragic. I have a 16 yo fur baby and I cry even thinking about him passing.
I am sorry for your great loss of your dog.
Great to see Katie and Brittany leading the narrative for a bit. Would be great to see more of that.
Thanks for the positive feedback Steve! The girls will love hearing that
Had the same thought. Keep adventuring!
Jamie is allright at it too. Bit of a character😆⭐️
The cuts and scars on the noses of the great whites give us a glimpse into character and life of these beautiful fish. Thanks for the “great” footage!
It’s crazy aye!
I would say that damage was from the cages as you can see the lines of the cage on their snouts.
@@petermcgreevy6386 or from breaking loose/hunting the abalone???
Nice to see Colin reinforcing his New Zealand foundation exploring and treasuring his homeland as he will know himself better and feel more self confident about where he is from and what that means.
Man what incredible footage. You guys knock it out of the park! Parley crew is just so inspiring, you show such amazing and unique adventures that this beautiful world has to offer. Thanks for bringing such amazement every week. Top notch.
Thanks so much!!
A much needed “up-lifter” after a hard week. Smiled constantly and cracked up at Colin’s wee slip after his blurb of walking gracefully amongst the kiwis 😂
DAYUM….Ted’s got to step up his game! 🤣👨🏻🍳
We miss you Marcie!
Love fresh abalone!

200mph+ hurricane 1/2 the size of the USA in Antarctica will hit all countries.
Look into it.
Wow, calm seas AND once in a lifetime encounters.. totally understand the pride you have in New Zealand,, such a breathtaking one of a kind place on this big blue ball.. bravo one and all 🍻 CHEERS PARLAY
Cheers Bill 🍻 appreciate you watching
Stewart Island is just awesome, kiwi, seals, bird life. Such an amazing place.
Couldn’t agree more!
I just named one of my boàts Parley Wannabe!!!!!! Thanks heaps Collin 😊 You guys Rock ❤ Just a old dude from Pender Harbour BC ☮️😎👍🇨🇦
Thanks Tom! Hope to catch you guys out on the water some day!
South Africa incoming ... whooo whooo would LOVE to see Parlay docked here, and meet you all one day! Happy to be your local tour guide 😊🙏
Great shark encounter - makes me think of the terrifying boat attacks around Portugal and Spain; hell no thanks!!
That small bite in your boat hull will be a solid reminder not to mess with them gnarly ragged toothed bad boys! They even look like beat up street fighters 😅😂
They sure do look so beat up! So much respect for these animals though. Hopefully we meet you in SA one day 😊
Great whites, kiwis, and Paua on the same episode! Well worth the wait. Keep up the adventures!
Thanks for spelling it out- only have Conch in Fla, I though they were saying- Powa
Thanks Tom 🙏🏼
New Zealand is so beautiful but dangerous. I can see why so many good sailors come from there. They deserve their bragging rights!
They say if you can sail around NZ you can sail anywhere and I see exactly why they say that now!
Training them to associate boats with food is crazy.
Its why they are so scarred up on their noses. all of them.
@@MizzAugust7the scars have nothing to do with the cages, they attack seals for a living in the shallows bouncing off barnacled rocks all the time. The cages are designed not to hurt the sharks if they bump into them
"Be very quiet and graceful" 14:43 LOL
😂
Hi @Colin, Big lover of your channel.
I'm from South Africa and a dive instructor in Cape Town, so when you do the Cape of Good Hope trip it would be absolutely epic to take you and your team for a dive in the Cape Town kelp forests.
I was also very conflicted about the shark cage diving industry but after chatting to many experts in the industry and the studies done it is refreshing to know the sharks don't associate food with people and the boats. In Gansbaai, we have many studies done revealing that its always new sharks that come past and not the same sharks over and over.
Cape Town is well known for Port and Starboard (two Killer whales) I have seen myself in the bay and they love hunting Great white sharks in the area, yet the real killer is always the commercial fishing industries with drag nets. There is no control over how much they take out and collateral damage to other species.
Would really love to meet you once Parley is in Cape Town so hope you see this comment. You are such an inspiration.
Thanks for sharing Phillip! We’d love to meet you when / if we end up going around Cape of Good Hope 😊
@@ParlayRevival It would be an absolute pleasure to meet and host you guys. Fingers crossed
Awesome episode guys! The quickest 25 minutes ever! Gotta rematch now!
Such a crazy episode aye Chose!
True story. I stumbled into a lecture for meteorologists. The speaker said up to three days forecasts are pretty accurate these days. 4-5 days is a 50/50 proposition. Anything over 5 days is a, "Wild Ass Guess". This was a professional talking to professionals.
I don't think you need to hear it from a meteorologist. Anyone who relies on forecasts knows how inaccurate they are. In Australia, they forecast two weeks in advance!
Haha we say 50/50 onboard a lot.
Mother Nature sometimes has a mind of her own but yes we trust the forecasts up to three days too
@@ParlayRevival have you guys blocked me from commenting? I only ask because they are either being removed or not being recorded.
I think you should repair it with clear resin so it can be left as a talking point. Or fill it with a colour epoxy and smooth it over leaving the mark. It is now part of Parlay's history which would be great to preserve. Just a suggestion.
I Ike the way you think.
Definitely will be keeping it 🤙🏼
Wow- great whites are just amazing and beautiful! You can’t help but respect sharks and especially the great white. What an amazing and possibly once in a lifetime experience guys!
Those great whites so close (AND BITING) your boat was CRAZY! Thank you for sharing ❤
Thanks for watching!
Jamie is a legend!
He sure is
OH DAMN!!! Parlay has to keep that shark bite, talk about adding character to the boat hahaha. I would show everyone that sails by...
Great white sharks and Kiwi birds to add to the whales, dolphins, manta rays and what ever else Parlay has seen. Another great Episode.
Colin, just want to thank you for living your life and displaying it for all of us who want to watch you and your amazing family have the time of your lives . Those of us that can only dream about doing something like that, can live it through you. And for that, I (we) thank you my friend. Always looking forward to Sunday, God Bless You and the family (crew) , love to you all 🤠
Colin you are spot on about whether cage diving is a good thing. As a geriatric surfer I have total respect for any sharks especially as they are known to follow the migrating whales off the East coast of OZ, and the surfer that died off Greenmount following a white attack is a prime example of collateral damage. A surf buddy from way back that has worked on the 'Rodney Fox' cage dive boat out of Port Lincoln SA has amazing pics but like you Colin I personally believe the whites start to associate boats with food. Only a surfer 'knows the feeling.'
What an awesome video Colin❗️ Thank you for all the effort you put in. Most of the channels have started focusing on their products and other shit. You seem to have remained focused on content, and it shows.
God Bless you and the Parlay Crew✝️🙏😇🇺🇲🌎
Thanks for showing what is possible. It’s so inspiring! Love seeing parts on NZ that not many people get to see ❤ 🇳🇿
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great whites could be my favorite shark. Fishing around San Francisco bay and ocean never seen one yet. But keep looking. The red triangle.
Love you guys! Thanks for taking us to see the Kiwis. Safe travels. ❤
Our pleasure!
Holy socks that shark was a big bastard. 😬 Chage diving? Nooo thank you.
Just want to say thank you for sharing, every week you genuinely renew my faith in humanity, leaving only foot prints in the sand. Much love.
Thanks for that Oliver! We appreciate you watching each week
WELL WORTH THE WAIT! Great episode. Can't wait for next week. Again.
Thanks!
Another great episode guys, always a fabulous experience.
That great white footage was crazy! Seeing all the battle and fight scars on the sharks was just nuts!
Thanks as always for the fabulous content!!!
Wow! What a wonderful experience for y’all! Fyn Alee
Thanks for weekly good vibes, what a cool life!
Thanks so much for watching!
One more consideration about rounding the tip. Traffic of freighters has increased due to ... So, watch the shipping traffic and ask for local info.
Really Great underwater footage of the Great White Sharks swimming around Parlay!
Thanks!
Some of those scarred up faces on those sharks remind me of some old friends. Thanks for an exciting episode. As I've said before, Parley starts my week wonderfully.
Thanks for watching!
Chumming sharks for cage diving is a DISGUSTING business ❗️They did it here in Florida until the sharks started attacking people, then outlawed it.
I agree.
Calm your tits down..
Where in Florida did they use to shark cage and for what sharks? Great whites?
Chumming far away from the populated areas and off the beaten path, there’s no problem (if you look at their annual migration, mating places.
People like yourself are probably nit aware tha5 the government are chumming up the waters close to beaches where an aggressive shark has been spotted (or several). to get them attracted to the drum lines (for the big 3 but also at times for smaller sharks as well.
It’s just not in the news or being written about.
Florida has way too many bull sharks for example which can be very vicious and aggressive (bull sharks have the highest levels of testosterone of all animals, ramming you like a bull, found in rivers, inlets can survive where fresh water meets salt water.
“Until the sharks started started attacking people” - There is absolutely NO way you or anyone else can prove your theory.
It’s impossible to confirm that cage diving could be responsible for increased shark attacks. That’s just ludicrous and frankly irresponsibility shit posting,
The real reason for mire shark attacks is the sharp increase of them everywhere. (Bulls, tubers, great whites etc7.
They all need ro eat a lot. They are coming closer to shore to find food.
But it’s often a case of mistaken identity or aggressive territorial behavior by some sharks.
Calm your tits down… There’s no way you or anyone can prove that shark age diving is responsible for more shark attacks.
That’s just disillusioned and dangerous spreading of misinformation.
I don’t think you are even aware of the chumming done by the government off many beaches where they set dry lines to catch the mist aggressive sharks, if they have a problem is certain areas.
You guys never disappoint ,always different and intriguing . keep living the dream
Thanks very much 🙏🏼
I kinda felt the channel would struggle after making the crossing. Boy was I completely wrong. The New Zealand visit has been spectacular. This Great White episode is absolutely epic!
Congratulations! You did it!! The adventures just keep getting better and better!! See ya next week!
Thanks so much!
Thanks for this beautiful pictures of the Great White 🦈 !
The Patterson Inlet Whaling Station was the largest in the Southern hemisphere in its time. The scallops there are magnificent especially under the salmon farms, feeding on the food pellets that drop through the farm nets. Spent a few weeks there in the 80's working on a new fishing factory. Blue cod fresh from the sea is the best. Happy memories.
Blue cod is so good! We managed to catch a couple. Stay tuned for the next episode 😊
I'm glad I was already on the toilet during the shark part of this video 😂
😂😂😂😂
😂
South Africa! 😮 Wow you can see your friend from Jeffreys Bay who had to sew up his leg himself. That'd be cool. Pitbul dog's are also allowed here.
Would be so cool to reunite with our South African friends 🙌🏼
Amazing episode! One adventure after another.
Thanks for watching Michael!
I've heard kiwi but never seen them in the wild. That made me quite emotional!
Such a cool experience
Excellent video, I have been scuba diving for over 50 years and have seen many sharks but I have never seen a great white. My goal is to sail to New Zealand and do exactly what you have guys have experienced. Good on you all for a great video...
Such a cool experience.
Thank you for sharing!
Balacalva - oh man how I miss Aotearoa. I hope Parlay has good heaters cause I can't imagine how cold it feels!
Haha no heaters onboard mate 🥶
Those sharks have some serious scars
Poor things
Right!?
Wow! They say when you depart this earth and your life flashes before your eyes make sure it’s worth watching - it certainly will be for you Colin and the crew of Parlay! PS a Brit here who has been lucky enough to see a Kiwi on her New Zealand road trip 😊
Very cool!! Love following the Parlay!!
Thanks so much
My favorite Sunday morning activity is coffee and watching Sailing Parlay! I absolutely am fascinated by sharks, so I’m very jealous of your experience. Looks like those sharks have had a rough life with all the scars they have.
I don’t know how I feel about chumming and cage diving. Some ways I’d love to do it, but I see the down side also. I feel it may make sharks more aggressive towards humans because they think of free food when they see a human. If that makes sense.
It was fabulous seeing those Kiwis. I’m gonna be honest I didn’t know much about them and always thought of the fruit when I heard you guys call yourselves Kiwis. Lol thanks for keeping me educated. Stay safe and enjoy every moment!
Thanks Jenni! Glad to hear you found it educational 🙏🏼
Another great program ,thank you Team Parley ! 😊
Thanks Robert! 🙏🏼
Fascinating episode!
Thanks for watching Mary!
Amazing experiences as always. Thank you for sharing 🤙🏻
Such a mind blowing experience! 🦈 🦈
Amazing shots of the great whites. It was like watching shark week again. Love them but wouldn’t test your theory either about humans not being on their menu Colin. I hope Jamie didn’t shit his pants 😂
Haha we’re pretty sure he did 😂
Magic viewing Colin Jamie and Co .

Love this episode! Thanks Colin and crew! XO

Your Great white part was something.!! Haven't heard so much nervous laughter ever. THEN abalones for lunch. and a whaling station. AND a shark bit the boat?? at least it wasn't killer whale. Thanks for another great episode. Seeing you all bundled up makes this 114 degree summer a bit better.
It was freaken cold! Thanks for watching William!

Brilliant episode!
Thank you!
A few years ago on the homeward leg of our 1st circumnavigation, we were moored in Cape Town for a few weeks, Seeing a great white was always on the bucket list, so we booked a dive trip with Marine Dynamics at Gansbaai....Adrenalin was flowing, but getting in the gage Cm's from what we were told to be a 5M(ish) female...such a majestic creature...and here we were feeling like canned meat...memories that are forever.
I really hope you guys can come to Cape Town ❤❤😊😊

Awesome episode !!!
Thanks 🙏🏼
Wow!! What an amazing video, absolutely loved it!! It is so awesome to see places that we've never seen.
Thanks for watching!
Love U guys another prime video .thanks coll
visited Milford Sound in march this year and while it is beautiful we the went through Thompson Sound and i thought that that was a mind blowing and left Milford in its wake
So much beauty to see down there!
Colin, we used to have Abalone in Malibu growing up. Eventually gone by the mid 70's. Over fished.
You now have to go way North in Mendocino County- North of San Francisco to find Abalone.
It definitely needs to be cooked well 👌🏼
@@ParlayRevival Similar to Conch, pound that meat to tenderize it.
thankyou for the weekly uploads❤

Excellent video Collin 🎉
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks!
The Kiwis were awesome! 👍
Very cool
They are!

Thanks for sharing. 🇳🇿🦈🐌
Another awesome episode Parlay! Dunners, sharks, paua, Kiwis, Stewart Island … love you guys and always look forward to Your weekly episode.
Inspiring us to do our own circumnavigation of NZ next year ❤
Hard work but you’ll love it! Thanks for watching Tasi ❤️
What a drama packed episode 💯
Enjoyed every second of it,one day hopefully I will get to visit as I’m in Ch-Ch.
Thanks so much for sharing 🎊✨
Sweet,Thank you
Thanks for watching!
It's wild to think about how land is distributed on the planet. I'm currently sitting at 47.3 degrees North. Just as far north as Stewart Island is South, and here you have a LOT of land to explore if you go further north. Thankfully the only Great White you're likely to see around here is my friend's boat.
Amazing, great stuff guys!
Thanks so much!
The coolest (literally) sailing channel on YT, more (clothing) layers than a ten kilo onion. Milford Sound is going to be SUPER SUPER cool.
Haha it sure is!
Colin you will be my hero if you were to show some of our beautiful country South Africa!! 🇿🇦 I tap my hat to you Sir Colin!! My first comment, but I’ve been following since you rebuilt the 465. Side note: you are not allowed to harvest abalone (aka perlemoen in Afrikaans) in SA. Bummer though they are delicious! Safe sailings 🤙🏼
Great , again😊
Thanks a lot 😊
I will be waiting in Cape town south Africa 🇿🇦 be safe 🙏
Thanks 🙏🏼
You are very trusting of the trampolines on the Bow of your boat. Nuts.
Multihull nets, they’re the best!
If interested Sailing Nahoa are on their second circumnavigation, and they went South Africa and then Brazil.
Yea we’ve hung out with Ben a few times! Good people 🙏🏼
I love seeing you guys every week 😊
Thanks Craig!
Another brilliant episode. Well done you guys
