    Whoa Katherine! This one is a total surprise! Never imagined that you would be here, in India! I'm totally used to see you exploring Chinese streets and lifestyle, so this one is totally unexpected. I laughed out so hard when you spoke out Chinese accidentally to the shop owner! I was literally anxious to see what you would experience in the next minute, considering how totally different Indian lifestyle is compared to China. I share the same thoughts as Arun with regard to chaos. Even I get overstimulated and overwhelmed every time and it gets too much for me too, even though I have lived in India all my life, unlike Arun. Loads of love from India and eagerly awaiting your (cycling) stories from China again!

    Your friend took you to old Delhi which has old infrastructure and is considered lower income . Your average middle class and upper middle class Indians don't really venture there. There are other less chaotic more peaceful neighborhoods in Delhi. But the cool thing about Old Delhi is you see the real India that's not been influenced by the west ( example air conditioner shopping malls, fancy restaurants, etc). I lived in Delhi for many years and rarely ventured to Old Delhi( maybe once in 6 years). It's noisy, dirtier, chaotic but there's lots of beautiful old infrastructure, monuments and mosques there.

    I am awed with the wiring system and wonder how many get hurt by electricity. Similar wiring messes can be seen in some cities in Thailand and Malaysia. I once was asked to look into the electric system in an Indian city. With all those wiring messes, about 25-30 % of electricity was illegally tapped and stolen. Thanks for sharing the chaos in Delhi. Thank you for the video! I first visited India in 2005 mainly to volunteer at an organization in Chennai that helps children with cerebral palsy and again in 2007 which was my last time:( I think I spent a total of 2 months in India. It was a culture shock for someone from Chicago and yes, there was a lot of chaos back then and in your video. The hardest thing was seeing lots of homeless children and wishing you could help them. I grew to love Indian food as a result of my first trip and I hope you were able to try the Indian version of Chinese food there. I did see cows in Delhi but also elephants in the streets in other parts of India. I stayed with some Indian families and 1 Chinese family living there and I have to say that the Average Joe in India is very friendly and hospitable. Some of the kids in the smaller towns were very curious of my Chinese skin color and were touching my face and arms which I didn’t mind. India is a huge country with many different people like China and it would take you a lifetime to explore. Hope you go back in the future!

    • @kats_journey_east

      2 months ?? So envious 😭😭 these few days were not enough, waiting for my next chance to explore india again

    • @ching753
      @ching753 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@kats_journey_east Yes, 2 months was not enough for me in India. There was a German couple volunteering at the same organization I was at who spent a year there in 2005 and it was still not enough. I was so glad in your video that I didn’t see western influence like McDonald’s, KFC, etc that you see in China because it seems like every successive year, I see bigger Chinese people/university students that come to Chicago. When you go back to India which I think you will, definitely take the long distance trains. In 2005 and 2007, I only paid a few dollars going from Delhi to southern India with a bunk bed in 3rd class. You will definitely meet your Average Joe and he/she might even invite you to their house. It happened to me as Santosh and his mom offered me chapati bread on the train with long conversation and a few days later I was at their house for dinner (the mom and her 3 sons and 2 of the sons’s families all under 1 roof). 2 years later I saw Santosh again. Definitely go with a companion like Arun or your boyfriend because I was told by my Indian professors at Northwestern University that sometimes people drug you with food or drinks and rob you if they see you’re a foreigner. I see a lot of Indians at Subway restaurants in Chicago and they’re surprised and happy that I spent time in India and loved the culture and food. I’ve even encouraged friends and relatives to go briefly and they come back happy they went. Definitely catch a long 3-4 hr Bollywood movie next time you’re there (the audience was like 70-80% male) and maybe ride a motorcycle through the towns and countryside (it might be hard with a bicycle like you did in China). Santosh whom I met on the train drove me through the countryside and town of Jaipur with him in his motorcycle and he drove like crazy on the sidewalks a few times that we got in a minor accident. Last time I was in India and China at same time was in 2007 so I really appreciate your quality videos as I am planning a return to both countries in future.
