I did AncestryDNA last year after finding out that I could have fathered a child and didn't know it in 1980 while stationed overseas. Well, according to them I did and I'm a grandfather. Wished I could have known this before I was medically retired because I was in their area a good bit and we may have seen each other and didn't realize it. I did a DNA test a few months ago, not expecting much in the way of surprises, as I knew my ancestry pretty well. Grandparents all born in Finland, and you didn't get to anyone not born there for 3 more generations, where you got a bit of Swedish and German (holdovers from the wars between Sweden and Russia). As expected, I came back as predominately Finnish, and they were even able to narrow it down to small regions in Finland, from which I knew I had ancestors. The surprise came as a result of 2% Inuit. After a bit of research, this seems to originate with the Sámi, which are a people that live in the Northern parts of Norway, Sweden, Finland, and a bit into Russia. They are the only recognized indigenous people in Europe.
According to 23&Me, I’m about 78% African , 20% European, less than 1% Asian/Native American, and less than 1% unassigned. I did a video about my ancestry using the MyHeritage platform on my channel! Slightly different results.

I just read this "To make matters worse, some of the biggest ancestry companies are owned in part by pharmaceutical giants or data companies-meaning your personal DNA information may be handed over to corporations to turn a profit." Why do u have to pay $29 monthly?
You don't "have to" pay a monthly fee. I subscribed to their services so that I'm able to get updated information as they become available and connect to DNA relatives. I did my research on 23 And Me and I found it to be an ethical and pretty transparent company when you do your due diligence and read their terms of service. I also appreciate that they continuously ask for permission to use the information they gather from you as they continue to do their research (which you can obviously say no to). I personally don't have a problem with 23 And Me using the DNA data they gather with permission from users to develop life-changing medication. I believe it's the government's responsibility to regulate so that these medications become available equitably to its population - from DNA companies like this AND pharmaceutical companies, especially when the government often funds the medical research that develops these medications but citizens get nothing in return for the use of their tax money. Thanks for watching and enjoy the rest of your Saturday night.
Hey!! Does anyone know if the basic $99 kit (ancestory and traits) has anything including health reports?? Being a hypocondriac i am reallyyyy not wanting to see that section haha
The basic kit only comes with ancestry and treat information. The more expensive health package is the only package that comes with health information. Thanks for watching!
Yay! I'm so excited for you. On the app, members can add the names to their known relatives. If you go back far/wide enough, you'll be able to connect with people who have the same family members in their three.
I sent mine in the post I’m really excited to see my history because all I know is about my British heritage and some people moved to Canada so I’m unsure what this holds for me
I mean you can print it out if you want but it’s all on the website with some interactive components and does update the more users are added/more data is discovered.
I want to do this for my daughter she’s 10… I lost contact with her father years ago I’m hoping to find a little information about his side of the family and more about her Mexican culture… I’m just a little worried that nothing will show up and it will be a dead end 😕
It depends. Do you care about getting a health report? If you're only or mostly interested in your ancestry, then just go for the $99 package (but use my link for the discount!). If you'd like to have your DNA analyzed for medical date, then go with the more expensive one. Have a great day!
Thanks for the video! I'm looking forward to getting my results back. I know little detail about my mother's roots. Also looking forward to health information. As I enter my 40s, I've been taking my health pretty darn seriously and hoping this will provide even more guidance. And my oldest sister has one attached and one detached earlobe!

This means you may truly be part of The Covenant. This is why you can’t trace ancestry. This land was diverse as it is vast, and the land of Our Father, the land of Shem, the seasonal lands, the best lands, had many tribes dwelling in it before She was invaded, close to 600 tribes. Now look deeper culturally to the tribe your lineage is linked, learn more of their heritage.
I’m thinking about getting a kit but was wondering you said something about siblings have you went through with trying to contact them and has anyone contacted you yet through the site? So didn’t know if that process was easy or not just wondering. Thanks for your time and thanks for truly helping me make this decision I should of went to TH-cam along time ago lol… God Bless
It’s clear we would be closer to the genetic makeup of our parents than our great great great grandparents. I think that’s obvious if that’s what you mean. Enjoy the rest of your Saturday.
@@jessicayflores So the ancestory appearing in your DNA strand that is shorter, it reflects the genomes from long ago. Due to recombination overtime, the blocks of DNA are shorter and are represented by smaller percentages, which denote the appearance of your ancestry into the genome, longer ago.
Right. And 23andMe is able to give you an estimated timeline for when those genes were introduced, which I believe I read aloud in this video. Thanks again for watching. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Not to be offensive, but I always believed the Latino community specifically Mexicans to the the hidden Native Americans since it’s so close to the US, they may have went there for safety
I’m sorry but I don’t understand your comment perhaps because of autocorrect issues. What I can say is that all of the Americas have “Native Americans” but there are several ethnic tribes. For example - Quechua, Wayuu, Tupi, Nahua, etc. it’s important to remember that countries and their borders were inventions of colonizers so some of these indigenous groups span numerous territories.

You are hilarious. Genetic expression has nothing to do with a fictional being. Have you ever seen identical twins? I guess god decided they would look the same? Ridiculous and insane.
Sure, but if intelligence can be passed down through DNA, I would attribute some of that to my indigenous ancestors who tracked time, used calendars and terrace farmed. But I can definitely see some my humor coming from Jewish ancestors. Lol Thanks for watching! I appreciate your enthusiasm. ☺️

The 23andMe website shows their membership as $29 annually. (Not sure if it changed since this video or just a mistake.)
Just got this kit! So excited to use it! but I’m curious, how do they know who your family members are? Does anybody know?
Yay! I'm so excited for you. On the app, members can add the names to their known relatives. If you go back far/wide enough, you'll be able to connect with people who have the same family members in their three.
I sent mine in the post I’m really excited to see my history because all I know is about my British heritage and some people moved to Canada so I’m unsure what this holds for me
I’m excited for you!
Thanks xxx
Great I need to the Ancestor test would love to know my results
You should definitely try it. It's all so enthralling. My link will get you a discount if you ever decide to try it out.
❤❤❤ This is so cool. Was fun to see this!
Thanks so much for watching!
@@jessicayflores 😘❤ loved it! And it my pleasure 😊
They don’t send you a physical report
I mean you can print it out if you want but it’s all on the website with some interactive components and does update the more users are added/more data is discovered.
Hello my sister. Guinean here.
Hey there! Thanks for watching!
Sounds like your Sephardic Jew. We fled Spain and Portugal for Mexico because of the inquisition
First time here… very informative been debating between 23&m or Ancestry
Same here idk which one to go with
23 and me is better, I’ve done both.
Thanks for sharing, Joelle!
Did you decide on either?
I'm trying tonuse the discount link, I dont think it works
Oh no! Try this link: refer.23andme.com/s/domesticatedmeblog
an your mtDNA haplogroup is ??
I want to do this for my daughter she’s 10… I lost contact with her father years ago I’m hoping to find a little information about his side of the family and more about her Mexican culture… I’m just a little worried that nothing will show up and it will be a dead end 😕
I might do one with my tax return. I do not know my biological grandfather
If you do decide to do this, I hope it’s insightful and maybe even healing for you. All my best!
@@jessicayflores I found my biological dad I had no idea
Should I get the first package or the expensive one?
It depends. Do you care about getting a health report? If you're only or mostly interested in your ancestry, then just go for the $99 package (but use my link for the discount!). If you'd like to have your DNA analyzed for medical date, then go with the more expensive one. Have a great day!
@@jessicayflores thanks so much
so neat and interesting to find out ones history
What is your Material Haplogroup?
I don’t know. Why?
@@jessicayflores just curious?
@@jessicayflores also, the reason why that I asked was that some South American Women might get a Haplogroup that is European sometimes to, my Friend?
Thanks for the video!
I'm looking forward to getting my results back. I know little detail about my mother's roots.
Also looking forward to health information. As I enter my 40s, I've been taking my health pretty darn seriously and hoping this will provide even more guidance.
And my oldest sister has one attached and one detached earlobe!
if mine comes back and says im not polish or am barely polish, imma flip. have been told i was my whole life and was raised around polish culture.
I’ve got my fingers crossed for you! Let me know what the results say!
@@jessicayflores turns out im more German then i am Polish, i am so confused. got 58% British and 17% German, can't remember what the eastern European is at the moment.
just got mine, omg I'm so excited to see where I'm from g o d
I’m so excited for you! Let me know your results when you get them!
I just got my results and I’m 52.3% Native and 31.3% European which is shocking but interesting
Interesting results. Out of curiosity, what was so shocking?
@@jessicayflores cause no ones ever said I look Native American I’ve gotten Spanish Italian Persian East Asian and south Asian etc
Pretty cool one.. Thanks for sharing this .. very helpful and informative
I’m debating if I’m going to shed 180 on this 🤔
I bought the 99 dollar one 🤪
Let me know when you get your results! Would love to hear your reaction and thoughts.
Is 23 and me accurate or is Ancestry DNA better ???
@@afsah3305 okay thank you 😊
I purchased the basic 23andme kit, and submitted my kit today. I really hope to find at least one biological family member. 🤞🏾🥹
Best of luck, June! Let me know how it goes!
Thanks so much for watching and leaving a comment. I hope you have a great weekend.
I’m thinking about getting a kit but was wondering you said something about siblings have you went through with trying to contact them and has anyone contacted you yet through the site? I was going to get the same kit but said: Check with your FSA/HSA administrator or your tax professional for confirmation on the specific requirements for individual eligibility and reimbursement, including usage, procedures and qualifications. So didn’t know if that process was easy or not just wondering. Thanks for your time and thanks for truly helping me make this decision I should of went to TH-cam along time ago lol… God Bless
the ear thing caught me off guard lol
Me, too, Maria. Me, too! 😂
Peace family, you read 23andme wrong. The most % of DNA is new to your DNA Genetic markers and the less % of DNA Genetic markers is more ancient.
It’s clear we would be closer to the genetic makeup of our parents than our great great great grandparents. I think that’s obvious if that’s what you mean. Otherwise, I read my 23andMe report as it was presented, including the approximate dates of when DNA from certain places of the world was introduced. Thanks for watching. Enjoy the rest of your Saturday.
@@jessicayflores what I'm saying is the percent of your DNA that are small. Is most older than your large amount of DNA
Nice video you telling nice iam from India 👍
Hey there! Thanks for watching all the way from India!
I’m very fair skinned and my mothers family is Mexican and my dad has a splash in him but he’s white. People make me question what I am and I’m so ready to see for myself 🥲
Don't let anyone question who you are. You know you better than anyone ever will. xoxo
This is so awesome!
I agree! Thanks so much for watching! :)
I knew it would read Native American . Xoxoxox
Not to be offensive, but I always believed the Latino community specifically Mexicans to the the hidden Native Americans since it’s so close to the US, they may have went there for safety
*to be , And strong physical similarities
I’m sorry but I don’t understand your comment perhaps because of autocorrect issues. What I can say is that all of the Americas have “Native Americans” but there are several ethnic tribes. For example - Quechua, Wayuu, Tupi, Nahua, etc. it’s important to remember that countries and their borders were inventions of colonizers so some of these indigenous groups span numerous territories.
@@jessicayflores ok thanks, you answered. I just always wondered if a lot of them fled to Mexico or surrounding countries when the war happened and stuff…. But history is something,
Just got my 23 and me kit , look forward to the result
Super cute video
Thanks so much for watching.
: Neato! :)
Thanks!
I bought my kit today. I'm scared
Hey there! Do you have an update? How did it go?
We are cousin!! Im from guinea hahaha 0.8% cousin hahahaahaha

I’ll never look at earlobes the same again. Lol btw I have detached, I think lol
LMAO! Bodies are weird. Mine especially. 😂
@@jessicayflores lol I just never thought about it. Att vs det but when I think about it it makes sense
I'd love to know more about my ancestry too!
It's really fascinating!
I say you look more southern Spanish and Portuguese.. Surprisingly you do not look native America even though your percentage is high. Which only means that God really chooses how each person looks regardless of your ancestry make up.
You are hilarious. Genetic expression has nothing to do with a fictional being. Have you ever seen identical twins? I guess god decided they would look the same? Ridiculous and insane.
@@Chibling not that deep man. find some peace.
your 0.3% Ashkenazi Jewish DNA contributes 99% of your high IQ and sense of humour
I don’t know about that! Lol
@@jessicayflores definitely especially the humour and a sense of humour requires intelligence!
Sure, but if intelligence can be passed down through DNA, I would attribute some of that to my indigenous ancestors who tracked time, used calendars and terrace farmed. But I can definitely see some my humor coming from Jewish ancestors. Lol
Thanks for watching! I appreciate your enthusiasm. ☺️
@@jessicayflores wishing you all the best in life

I think it would be absolutely annoying to be getting AIR BNB advertisements?

I notice that Latin people are very mixed.
Yes, just like most of the Americas thanks to colonizers coming to the New World.

What discounts from where? 🤔
@@jessicayflores schools, government Grant's that sort of thing
I think you have to register with a tribe tho so ull need your ancestory report to find the name of the family member
Your ancestors suffered for that retribution so you should get it in honor of them. I hope they do the same for African Americans
It’s a lot harder than you’d think to get status.
I thought 🤔 Finnish ancestors
Everyone has African in them .
