  • Looking for the most efficient 3-row people mover that still runs on gas? That's arguably the new 2021 Sienna. For 2021 Toyota swapped out the V6 for a standard hybrid system that trades a second in 0-60 for a whopping 90% improvement in fuel economy.
    Note: The XSE does get a tweaked suspension. Toyota clarified that after we shot this video.

    Toyota Sienna is number one as for all other Toyota vehicles. Toyota is the most reliable and has the longest life span is already known but more importantly, the spare parts logistics and dealer service is the best and at a level above the rest of the industry.

    Just traded off a 2018 Kia Sorento to a very well-loved 2012 Sienna AWD Limited. Unbelievably, the 8-year-old Sienna has a better ride, and interior fit and finish than our Kia did. The Sienna was also our first minivan, and we may never go back to an SUV. It's a tough call between this and the Honda, either way, it will be a fully loaded van as these options/features are very welcome on long road trips. At first, I was upset the V6 went away as it's so refined at this point, but it sounds like Toyota's hybrid solution will be a welcomed addition. Thank you for such a great review. I look forward to a more in-depth one in the future

      Does not surprise me at all. The "cool" SUVs come at the expense of ride, space, and fuel economy as well. We have a 2011 Sienna which just passed 240,000 miles with virtually no issues - there's that too!! One of my kids has a Kia - no comparison. BTW, our Sienna replace an Odyssey - worst vehicle I ever owned, nothing but problems (it was well cared for). FYI, I've owned all Toyotas and Mazdas other than the Honda so my reliability standard is pretty high.

    I drove a 2019 Pacifica Limited plug-in for a year and it was a pleasure. No issues. If I was to buy a new van now, not having removable 2nd row is a deal killer. Hopefully Toyota “fixes” this problem later.

    • @joa8593

      They won't and the Pacifica and Odyssey will probably lose it soon too.
      The IIHS just this month changed their side crash rig to wrap around the pillars to hit passengers inside. Side body airbags in the second row are pretty much going to be a must to pass the new test.

The dealership took me to their shop to try to discover any possible work-around, but we could not find one without eliminating the vehicle's entire airbag system. Such a waste of great turn-key utility.

  • @davidwestlund8954
    @davidwestlund8954 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The reason the Sienna doesn't have removable seats is because of airbags that you don't have to unplug and replug in. You can still get a full sheet of plywood in the Sienna by pushing the seats forward . And most people never remove their seats so that's not a big deal . I'm sure the Pacifica because of Chrysler's bad repair record would not pay to have another Chrysler product.

    I think the reason the engine noise is more pronounced in the minivan is because it is much closer to the driver. Minivans have really short fronts and the engine sits well back while the SUV has more of the engine in the longer engine bay. Just look at the front from the side and see how much further the front wheels are from the A pillar in the SUV versus the Minivan.

    If Toyota could have shaved about $1000 to $1500 off the MSRP then they'd make a compelling argument of being one of the best values. But they not only ask for a significant more money, they make the spare tire optional, rear entertainment optional (compared to the Odyssey which is standard eq at the higher trims) and make the second row seats irremovable. The XSE trim, being the sportier trim level, should have at least come with an optional V6. For the current pricing they should have more standard equipment. With no fridge or vacuum, there's little reason to buy the Platinum over the Limited versions.

    • @anacap007
      @anacap007 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Eat Jat To get a real idea of gas savings you would have to comparably equip say the Odyssey and the Sienna which means adding even more money into the Sienna to have the spare tires and a rear entertainment system which will probably set you back another two grand. You're probably looking at 5-6 years of breaking even on the gas savings.

    I test drove the new Sienna and it was under powered. I would be very worried to have 5 to 6 people with luggage onboard. I think it would be very difficult to pass any vehicle quickly and safely. Not to mention going up hill would not be good. I noticed immediately that the Sienna 4 cylinder is very loud when giving more gas when needed with very little result. The seats not coming out on the 2nd row is such a waist and lastly I was very disappointed when I got in the 2nd and 3rd row and found how cheap the materials are. A good example is the rear cup holds are attached to the very thin side wall and it actually shakes when you mess with the cup holder. The last thing that really turned me off was the breaking system. Those breaks are so grabby and very difficult to adjust to. I have driven hybrids before but wow! Not good....I went to go and buy a Sienna that day but left with no Sienna due to the disappointment in it. They really should of left that V6 in it. Instead we are going to purchase a much more refined 2021 Pacifica Hybrid. Love your show man. Always good info.

    Hi Alex,
    Good Morning,
    Did you try a passing?, I will be using the Sienna primarily on high speed open roads with one lane each way, so passings is a key safety point for me.
    I currently drive a 2013 Honda Odyssey Touring for the family and a 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid Limited as personal and utilitarian car.
    Great channel by the way !

    There is no way that the Toyota can compete against the PHEV pacific. I understand you like Toyota but now that I own one and seeing your video I understand why Toyota does not want you to compare the two because their is none!!! Toyota can’t match the efficiency of the Pacifica!! I bet over 10k miles the Pacifica blows the Sienna out of the water!! Smooth quite and it moves like no other minivan I have ever driven. Test drove 3 of them yesterday, liked the xle handling better, but the engine acceleration noise annoyed the hell out of me errr. They should have had a V6 option, replacing the battery is way too expensive, you can always get a third party battery but good luck getting one to last as long as the original one. Might just get a 2020 with the V6.

    • @rebel7254
      @rebel7254 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Battery replacement isn’t an issue unless you’re going to keep it for more than 10 years or more than 150,000 miles (that’s the warranty). Even then it is very likely to go far beyond that with a little filter maintenance now and then.

    With the exception of the waving your foot underneath the car to open doors and non removal of seats, having the spare tire underneath the car like the Sedona, I think the 2021 Sienna (any trim level) is the way to go. If Toyota does what Kia does where the back doors open automatically within 3 seconds instead of doing the hokey pokey on a patch of ice carrying your kid or groceries that would be the best way. Also removable of seats is super important. While in theory the stow and go seats are great idea, the actual seats are not comfortable at all. Honda is falling behind.

    Toyota made a big mistake with this new sienna.
    A lot more expensive than all other minivans.
    Slower than all other minivans.
    Hybrid only
    Middle seats don't come out
    As a loyal toyota customer, I feel a big let down by toyota.
    Gas mileage dosn't mean much to people when a gallon of gas is under tow bucks and expected to stay there for years to come.
    Toyota needs to fire the head in charge o this new van before they lose most of their customers to other brands.
