I owned a truck my entire life. I swapped over to the 2022 Sienna and I am never going back. I'm a minivan dad for life now. It is so functional and practical that it brings back the joy of going out for a drive. The tech, aesthetics and features makes me feel like I am piloting a spaceship. Simply amazing.
@@DK-bm5rg Agreed, I'm thinking of ditching the 1/2 ton pickup and getting a sienna, my wife thinks I'll regret it but I don't. Tired of 116-19 mpg when i could get upper 20s or low 30s mpg. I am concerned about pulling a boat out of the water (boat launch) and wheel slippage if it has fwd, may have to opt for awd.
As a person who always said " I would never be caught dead in a mini van" I can honestly say after owning a 22 sienna for just over a month it was probably the smartest purchase I have made thanks for your insight your videos were helpful in making this decision 👍 .
You know, I used to think that as well. However mini vans are luxury vehicles now. It's like if a truck and car had a baby. They are mostly AWD, they have all the bells and whistles.
I use to think the same 😂. 370z owner. Picked up a 2001 sienna 226k miles. Needed Valve gasket & 3 sensors. Coil pack. Im confident it can hit 400k miles easily 😁👍🏾. I moved & didn’t even need uhaul just removed seats. Vans useful lol
I really like this minivan AMD I can tell by the scenery where you are so I would be comfortable with something like that especially if it's a four banger.Toyota has nice four cylinder engines.
I have the 2005 Sienna with 8 seats configuration. After 17 years and 316k miles, it is still bulletproof reliable and very low cost of maintenance that other brands can’t match.
I also have one of these, 8 seats and over 300k miles as well. I liked it so much I bought a 2006 8-seater with 220k miles. The last truly excellent year for the Sienna. Super stoked about it.
Those who have a family of four or more who say they "wouldn't be caught dead" in a minivan are missing out on how much convenience that minivans offer. The Sienna especially. We own a 2021 Sienna LE and love it (especially the MPG).
I bought my 2015 Sienna AWD mainly so that I could use it to camp INSIDE of. I built a simple bed platform and some storage capability for it. I am one of those folks that raised my van for just a bit of added clearance while traversing forest service roads. Also, I plan to add +1 or +2 sized tires when the current oem sized tires wear out. Yes, I know that that this is not a TRD vehicle and would never treat it as such. But I have come across deep holes and very rocky roads while climbing some forest service roads and have come to appreciate the added clearance. The key is to take it very S-L-O-W-L-Y and you will not have a problem. I agree with you that mini vans are very functional and versatile. When I help someone move their stuff, out goes my camping gear and in goes their stuff. When the grand kids come to visit, out goes the camping gear and in goes all the seating. Sienna’s are fantastically versatile vehicles. While I generally can eek out 25-27 mpg on the highway (if I do not go over 65mph and drive it like I do my Prius V), it does not compare to a Hybrids mpg. I would love to own a Woodland but just cannot justify the cost given that I own a Gen3 Sienna and don’t drive it all that much. I did just get back from a 4500-mile trip to South Dakota (what an awesome place) and was maintaining about 25 mpg. I’m all for functional vehicles, high horsepower and a raspy exhaust note don’t do anything for me (like it did when I was in high school). Its all functionality and reliability for me. I would add high mpg to that list if I owned the Sienna Hybrid. Your review was very good and informative. I enjoyed your commentary and nodded my head when you mentioned something to the effect of “why buy a vehicle rated for 1% or less of the driving style you will mostly use if for”. This is another well done video and thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with the TH-cam world.
I fully believe that a minivan is the most practical, functional and comfortable vehicle that you can own. All the SUV people are just sheep that think they are too cool for a minivan. Nothing better than a minivan. People that look down at minivans, and say that they would never own one are missing out.
I'm a 34 year old male w/ 2 kids, i'm excited to get one. My mom sent me a text saying, "we had 3 minivans, you won't have to keep one fovever". I said, i'm pumped. They are so comfortable, and easy. My wife was against one, until i rented one for a week in Florida (shout out to turo). After a week of going to parks, museums and the beach, she was all in. LOL.
When you’re secure in yourself you realize how awesome Minivans are. No other vehicle is as good at all things. For moving people especially kids, no vehicle comes close.
WE HAVE A 2012 SIENNA XLE, NEVER HAS ANYONE CRITISIZED ME FOR DRIVING MY MINIVAN! I JUST LOVE IT, IT HAS 66K MILES AND IT IS JUST AN OUTSTANDING VAN, I WILL PROBABLY GET AN 2023 IN NOV, IF POSSIBLE, (CHIP SHORTAGE?) I DROVE A' 21 SOME TIME AGO AND I WOULD CERTAINLY GIVE UP 3O H.P. FOR AN INCREASE OF 15 MPG. MY 2002 HONDA ODYSSEY HAD A V6 WITH 240 H.P. NEVER FOUND IT LACKING FOR MORE SPEED UP THE HILLS. SO DON'T WORRY, GO TEST DRIVE ONE, YOU WILL BE SURPRIZED AT THE POWER.AS HE SAYS IT IS IMPRESSIVE.
My wife’s 2022 Sienna XLE is averaging over 37 mpg. She bought it in December and loves it. We ( family of 5) drove it from Miami to Tennessee and back for around 100 dollars in gas.
@@davecallender4038 its more then my eldest daughter’s Corolla. It holds 8 people and has better mpg then one of my Kawasaki motorcycles. It’s amazing.
I sold my car during the inflated trade in prices, and decided to just drive the Toyota Sienna. At first I hated it but then the space, the smoothness of the drive and the utility just won me over. I recently went to a Mazda dealership to test drive a CX-9 and a CX-50 and I just couldn't get used to it anymore. I think I'm forever gonna drive this Toyota minivan.
Thanks for the details on the Woodland Edition Sienna!! My wife and I are on our 2nd minivan, that we got as our 2nd son was heading to college. MVs ride nice, they can dispatch hauling for our home with EASE. Just plain comfortable on a trip and decent mpg. We considered an SUV, but our MV just gets all the jobs and travel done excellently! On recent Sienna, FIRST THING I noticed was the lack of any protection for the liftgate. A real shame for the design; total show stopper for us. Hope Toyota reworks that to protect the liftgate better. Drivers aren’t getting more careful. A lot of folks follow close …. Thanks again!!
I've driven loaded Toyota Sienna Hybrids up and down mountain passes at freeway speeds in Colorado and New Mexico during summer months. Absolutely no issues with power. It is an extremely convincing machine.
Since I don’t own a truck I went for the Grand Caravan and have used the extra space many times but I would upgrade to the new Sienna in a heartbeat if the 2nd row removed.
Just know that when you "upgrade" to a 2021 or older model, you'll lose a full THIRD of the cargo capacity. They've stripped the storage and cargo capacity and flexibility of the vehicle.
@@TinyIslandMaine there's just no substitute for a test drive. For me, they stripped all of the functionality of a minivan that I loved to make way for battery packs. The interior feels more boxed in and sedan like. It's obviously extremely popular, but disappointing for my personal needs.
I have had 3 "mini" vans, 1995 Nissan Quest, 2004 Nissan Quest, 2015 Toyota Sienna. Each newer one was bigger than the last. My Sienna has been wonderful. Get about 25-27 mpg highway, regardless of load, and 19-20 city, including long idles in carpool lines(weather seldom allows much sitting with max AC blowing). The V-6 has pep for sure, but it's not a race car. I have generally kept my vans 10 years before looking for another. The Sienna, at 150,000, has nearly 20,000 more miles at only 7 years that the last Quest at 10 and zero problems, whereas the Quest was truly on its last leg, that I may go longer than the regular 10, good Lord willing. I would like to see how the Hybrid Siennas shake out over the next few years before looking at replacing it with one. The ability to take the dogs, kids, grandkids, and now great grands, on roadtrips has made my "minis" great buys. I am not sure that the Woodlands trim would be my pick, but that is what they make test drives for and wives that make the final pick of the family transport.😉
Thanks for the great videos. I've had the 2021 Sienna XSE (hybrid) for 8 mths ... 25000km/16000miles so far and loving it. I've had gas mini vans for couple decades, tow 2000 lb tent trailer and 5 people, dog and camping gear. Live in Atlantic Canada, big hills (not true mountains anymore). Don't push loaded vehicle to max going up hills, but never had issues with power. I do identical driving with Sienna hybrid and I can't tell the difference in power from a gas v6 3.5liter minivan. I usually counted on 12L/100km / 20mpg for driver & empty gas minivan. Gas savings are about 40-45% (7.0L/100km / 34mg) in Sienna hybrid driver & empty van 3 seasons. Savings are only about 20% (9.5L/100km / 25mpg) when temperature is -15C / 5F, slush/snow on road and have winter studded tires. Luckly only a few tanks of gas per year with such nasty weather. Driving is 65% highway, 35% city. Overall very happy with Sienna hybrid. Will be looking for Camry hybrid in next couple of yrs.
'22 XLE FWD owner and rideshare driver here. I've covered 15,000 miles so far. I feel like the Woodland wouldn't scrape where my XLE does when pulling into/out of steep driveways. Acceleration is adequate. AWD isn't really needed for me, but I wonder if that extra electric motor would make it just a bit faster. I bought this car for the exact reasons you mentioned - practicality. From one passenger to 7 with luggage, the Sienna does it all and nobody's cramped. You didn't even mention how tight the turn circle is, but another huge pro is that you can turn it around in nothing! My biggest problem with the Sienna is that I feel they could have made it so much better. Just 20HP more from the electric motors would get it up hills where the gas engine comes on at the very top. 20% higher battery capacity and a better EV mode. Electric heater that provides consistent heat rather than using engine coolant. It's a big van with a lot of space inside and the heat can really be inadequate on cold days. Lastly, the interior feels so flimsy. Push on the center console. It flexes easily and visibly. On mine, there's a panel on the bottom right side spoke of the steering wheel that I can push and flex and it makes a loud snap. The panels on top of the gauges don't fit very tightly. I can go on and on. I just wish they'd improve build quality.
My grandma gave up driving a few years ago and gave us her van. Never would have even considered one in the past. The amount of stuff we've managed to fit in it alone has blown me away multiple times. They're insanely useful and I think everyone needing a larger vehicle owes it to themselves to at least test one out.
As guys in Alaska, we really appreciated minivans compared to trucks for: better mileage on expensive gas; the available interior heated cargo space; passenger space (I transported the 4-piece Domino Kings country rock and blues band plus guitars and luggage between Cordova, Alaska's airport and around town, and our HS science teacher loved having me drive students out to Sheridan Glacier and other areas for field trips.) Nobody liked the Pontiac TransSport SE windshield forward view, but minivans are great utility vehicles! 12:25 We really appreciate ground clearance for the translation to "snow clearance."
Purchased a 22 Sienna XSE end of January. My wife, the primary driver, would tell you without a doubt the best purchase decision she's made. We came from a Kia Sorento with young kids and their car seats. The sienna, with the super long slide seats is amazing for comfort of both the kids and mom and dad. Excellent gas mileage too, one highway trip of 400+ miles (interstate at 70 mph) was 36 mpg on the dot, day to day with mostly city its about 31. For comparison, we are on vacation now with a rental Pacifica in limited trim. The Pacifica is very nice and drives well, mileage is 1/2 that of the sienna. If it didn't sport a Chrysler badge it may have been more of a contender, though after 2 months of living it nothing would talk us out of the Sienna.
Have owned 2 Sienna vans and have put 600,000 kms on them. Didn't think I would want the new hybrid, but you made me think again. 2nd row seat issue and low clearance were two of my main concerns; but this Woodland edition is nice!
Bought a 2019 Sienna over a 2021 Sienna for almost the same price. Tested both, drove both multiple times. Wife chose the Sienna because of a couple things...Removable seats which we take out ALL THE TIME, power on the freeway over the 2021 (minor), the roof rack which wasn't available for addon at the time, and there wasn't a good tow bar. Likely we will get get a woodland edition in the future, but for those reasons we preferred the 2019 over this and I think we made the right choice. (My wife also does not like the newer suv center console of the sienna/all the new vans and prefers the older sienna style...which is now gone from ALL vans so it is a moot point in the future. Thanks for the review, will likely go with a sienna again in the future if our Sienna doesn't last another 10 years. Keep the great videos coming. Make a lot of decisions based on your reviews!
I purchased a 22 Prius XLE 2 months ago and love it, especially with the current gas prices. My vacation vehicle is a 2020 Sequoia, put a battery tender on it. Only drive it once a month now.
Sure it may sound loud and under power but my 2013 Prius sounded like that every day transporting fully loaded with passengers and luggage as a ride share vehicle. After 208, xxx miles the head gasket gave out. This new minivan is just an oversized Prius with AWD😍
AMD great video! Someone finally said it. I have 2013 Sienna 100K never a problem and load the hell out of it. Also have a Tundra. Each have thier own purposes. It's easier to load the van with 10 to 12 feet of wood with seats out, sheet rock, dogs, and grocery. But tundra pulls, load fire wood, and I need it for country use. Honestly, the van is more convient 75% of the time. Been told I look stupid in hunter orange and driving a mini- van lol.
Updating: after kids have grown up in my 2005 Sienna which is still running great and the kids rarely ride with me in the Sienna because they all have their own vehicles but I have decided to get the 4th Generation Toyota Sienna Hybrid and I love it. Toyota builds the best Hybrid and the Sienna is no exception. The Sienna mpg is wonderful and the range is insane 600 miles on the smaller gas tank. The hybrid and gas engine work together seamlessly. There are some minor gripes but I am very happy overall.
Great timing! We have a Woodlands on order that could arrive at the dealership any day now. The gas mileage and AWD for snow were the key points for us.
Great video and channel CarCareNut! We've owned 2 Sienna vans, 2005 XLE Limited (235,000 miles) and currently 2006 LE with 228,000. Looking at maybe one of these hybrids next. Thanks for all of your wonderful insights! Also I grew up in Tinley Park in 80's so the route you just drove (West avenue-159th st- 108th ave and 143rd st) brought back some memories even though that area is so populated now lol!
This is my actual van! Had it for two weeks now, and I can’t believe how long I lived without sliding doors. 🤣The ride is so smooth, so much space, and non-removable second row doesn’t bother me (all the way back so no one kicks my seat). Functional for myself and two kids.
As a car guy I love your reviews. I've been in the auto industry since 1965, seen a lot, done a lot. You explain just how it works and that's what counts. I have a 23 Sienna order to haul my grandchildren. Had ordered a Platinum but looks like I will end up with an ASE, only thing available from my dealer.
I love my 2016 Sienna, until I moved to a house on a dirt road. Now I'm looking at a lift kit. I don't need much, just a little extra clearance when the rain puts ruts in our road. I'm glad Toyota recognized that people want this.
I live in suburbs and I used to have a minivan for many years. Once kids have grown and moved out and my old minivan had to be donated I thought it made no longer sense to have minivan. I can't tell you how much I miss the convenience of having minivan. It is being able to buy & bring bulky stuff (if you are homeowner or garage sale monger or gardener you know what I'm talking about). If you are road tripper and bicycle owner, or occasional kayaker (and I am all those things), then nothing matches the convenience and broad utility of a minivan. Somehow it got reputation of being a kiddie hauler, but it is actually so much more.
I have a 2016 sienna xle premium. Took the second row out and fold the third row down to go buy and fit 20 sheets of drywall in it. Love it! Not too sure I could do the same with 2022 without doing anything crazy with the second row
@@meganharbath6957 A third less? No way. The 2nd row seats fold way up against the front row. And if you want to haul 4x8 or even 4x12 sheetrock you still can; just buy one of those hitch mounted bed extenders.
I drove one of these hybrid sienna on vacation in FL recently. Absolutely loved it. I was amazed at the gas mileage. I recently sold my 2006 sienna with 177k on it and it never had any issues and ran perfect. Hopefully these new hybrid will be as reliable as that 2006 one was.
For me, the most outstanding aspect of the Sienna is its fuel economy.....an 8seater minivan achieving even better mileage than the most fuel efficient gasoline version Corolla subcompact.
AMD, We know a dedicated Sienna Hybrid delivery van will be near the top of your list when they FINALLY put you on the Toyota Board of Directors. BTW it was a relief to hear the Number 1 selling minivan in America is not "hopelessly slow" like the Corolla Cross. 😉
The second row seat tool-less removal is the only negative I see. However, if you want to remove it, you can do it in about 15minutes with 1) unhook 12v, 2) a socket set to remove seats, 3) 2 airbag emulator dongles. Not perfect but still doable. People do convert this into a van life vehicle, by doing so.
As a no kids couple which does lots of road trips, I was considering a '23 Rav4 woodland. Then I came across a Scotty kilmer video about the minivans. When he mentionned the consumption of the sienna I was in shock. My wife now wants this instead. We don't care it's not a sexy car, it seems absolutely amazing and practical. How is it possible to have that low consumption with such a massive piece of a car. Awesome. Now I can foresee the nice road trips with friends. 😁
I am super happy with mine that I got in March. Impressive gas millage, like a yariz or corolla, doing the math from 5.7 to 8lt/100km, last 30 days average from 7.3 to 7.8lts /100km REALS! I had the previous 2011 and we loved! More power? Yes and I removed the middle seats 3 times in 5Y. This New one has power in between the previous 6cyl and the 4Cyl. More than enough! In Canada with that Gass at 2$/Lt it is just a blessing! I had before a Venza 2011 in 4cyl and I never felt I missed power bs the previous 2011 6cyl Sienna so how many times per year you need the extra push? I'm can't drive anymore a long trip at 100MPH so it is useless more pushing!
Now that I’m retired, I don’t drive that often and sometimes I don’t even drive it once a week. I pretty much have to jump it off every time. It’s a hassle. I love the appearance, but I MUCH prefer my 2013 Sienna xle. I’m so glad I kept it. Thinking seriously of selling the 2021 Sienna platinum.
The problem with my sienna is the sagging rear end when loaded, I think all 7 passenger should have air suspension to accomodate the large variety of loading scenarios. I plan to install a Ride rite air assist kit to compensate that probleme
Yes. I got air bags in the rear of mine. made all the difference in the drive. I know I overload mine a little. Never had a problem. Great in the snow too.
@@rickjames5998 your mode is the firestone ride rite 4155 kit. Mine is the 2021 Awd, i need to figure out if the stopper bumper can be remove to fit the kit. Hopefully ill find a solution
You spoke of the back bumper. Oh, my, you were right on the money. Our 2021 got backed in to. Over $4000 worth of damage. They must replace the hatch and all it did was a scuff. THing is, it shattered the bonded plastic on the interior. I agree, a bumper would have been nice.
Still loving my 2021 Sienna. Camping all the time with a full size mattress in the rear, hauling gear on the roof racks. It's incredible. Just took it on dirt roads in Mexico and it performed great. The A/T tires have affected the MPG slightly but overall still great efficiency.
@@taden2007 I had them removed for about 7 months, disconnected the battery, airbags wiring, and then installed a defeater to eliminate any messages up front. It sounds confusing but honestly took 10 minutes. There are videos on TH-cam how to do it simply. The second row seat situation isn't ideal, but I can still fit a full mattress in the back when the 2nd row is slid the entire way forward and in the folded position.
@@taden2007 Yeah, it's rough out there. I got a family member to track one down in PA and had it shipped to CA. Shipping was only about 1k compared to the 5-6k markup I was also dealing with at the time.
@@tony7044 found a 2021 Pacifica hybrid pinnacle with every single option in it… would be 65k new, I’m getting it for 46k. Only 24k miles. I’m gonna get it at this point. Same price would only get me a base model sienna after dealer markups and that is if I can even find one..
I remember the Sienna with a 6 cylinder. I believe it was the same engine that is in my 07 Camry XLE. Now those Sienna's were fast. I had an old couple ahead of me on the freeway in the left lane and would not move over to the right. So I tried to pass him on the right and he humped on it in his Sienna van. I could not get by him. I was driving my 2000 Buick Park Avenue with the 3.8L Series II engine. (One of the best engines ever made I might add) The old guy kept flipping me off while he was at it too. 🤣 To this day I have no idea why he did that. I was not tailing him or bothering him. I simply was coming up and needed to pass him. I believe I 'Flashed to Pass' him. Well anyways, I was impressed. I only wish I had my 07 Camry that day. I would of passed him then....
You are absolutely right. I have a 2006 Sienna, low miles, no frills. When I ask from it, I get plenty of power, city or highway. 05-08 Toyotas were awesome!!!
I have a 2016 sienna awd. I absolutely love the functionality. I can fit my whole family with all the luggage, or I can take out the seats and fit an entire 4x8 plywood. I recently moved all our furniture to a new house with just a few trips with the sienna. The only thing that did not fit 100% inside was the queen-sized mattress which had to be secured to the roof rack. I do wish the 2016 was a hybrid as our gas milage is fine, but not great. We did upgrade the tires because the run flat tires are terrible. We do use the awd for adventuring down some gnarly roads so I do wish the ground clearance was better. Journeys off-road makes a lift kit for the sienna, but i have yet to commit.
I really wanted one in February 2021 when we were preparing for the birth of our 3’rd child. Test drove an emerald green hybrid Sienna and loved it. My wife, who wouldn’t be driving it much, couldn’t get past owning a minivan, so we got a 2021 Highlander instead. Glad we bought when we did though.
Tell your wife to get over it. If you’d forced her, she’d have grown to realize how wrong she was. Vehicle purchase should be 99.9% logic. Emotion should have near zero input
I have a 2001 and a 2008 Sienna. I love them both. Family of 6. We live in Colorado and have road tripped often. Washington state, California, New York, Washington DC, Texas and Florida to name a few and all parts in between (not all in one trip, we are not THAT crazy!!). My favorite is my 2008 as it cruises beautifully through the mountains and on highways fully loaded. I too have a lead foot and this car has the potential to get me into trouble because it is so smooth and handles so nicely. However, I absolutely grimace at the thought where I can't remove that second row of seats. There have been many times when I'm hauling lumber or moving stuff where that extra space is needed. Lately, I've been entertaining the thought of using a Sienna for stealth camping for just my wife and I, and that second row simply has to come out. I am so disappointed that it cannot come out.
The awd system is brilliant. It does exactly what you need. Gives you better traction at low speed. Most all wheel drive systems in cars provide nothing for actual performance driving as they limit you to 50/50 split and act as front wheel drive until the front starts to slip (haldex system, subaru, vw,, ect.). It doesn't help you rotate the car in a corner during aggressive driving. Being a minivan, why would you add complexity and weight for a mechanical awd system? You just need the torque at low speed. Going of a snowy or gravel hill. It also makes adding the option so easy for the manufacturer.
I bought a 2004 Odyssey last November, 350k, repaired it with many pick pull junkyard parts, of course it had a rebuilt tranny with really dark oil. I dumped it twice, I know the deal with old oil metal particles blah blah. But it's off red now. I drove it 5000 miles, got 26 27mpg, and I drive real easy. Motor used zero oil even tho it smoked on extended idling, valve guides, but zero oil level drop. All doors work, inc electric side doors. Good value for the $1500 I have into it, and zero rust as it was from SC
I don’t need the Woodland edition but I do want AWD for the just in case moments. The trick for me is to find a white van with the 1500 inverter. Thanks for another great video sir.
I have the same feeling about the second row seats as I took one out all the time to be able to move large items. As a sienna owner for I notice lots of bumpers that have damage. Families should get all the safety equipment as well as anyone.
I love mini vans. I loaded my brothers 46” riding mower in the back of mine. It helped that the seats folded flush with the floor. (Chrysler Town and Country). I can’t get a bucket loader to drop gravel or mulch in it, but other than that it’s like a pickup with a cap on it.
Our 2005 Sienna that we purchased new now has 215k miles on it. It still runs great and has been reliable. Would like to get a new one, but we could likely only sell our old van for about $1k. I take out the 2nd row all the time to buy sheets of plywood or drywall. I would not only need to pay 40x more, but I would now need to buy a truck. I have gone since 2005 without needing a truck thanks to my Sienna.
My only complaint, the tv setup lacks a blueray dvd as well as the ability to plug in a microSD chocked full of movies. My 2021 Sequoia Platinum’s tv setup is perfect. I have a 1TB microSD packed with thousands of videos for the kids and it works flawlessly. Super easy to change folders from the remote.
You, my brother, are a blessings! I am in the market and I’m contemplating getting another Highlander or a Sequoia.. might need to swallow my pride and be a soccer dad
Very similar formula to my Toyota Estima AWD 2GR-FE minivan. GSR55 series. The ground clearance is increased by Toyota using 215/60r17 tires compared to the 2WD models using the 215/55r17. I use mine for long distance and alpine snow driving. I like brisk minivans - great for overtaking and hauling a full load up a mountain with ease.
I just bought a 2022 LE awd. I am averaging 37 miles per gallon. I just stay out of the pedal and I get around just fine and do not lose any time really. I love my van
Had a 2018 XLE. Traded for a 2022 all-wheel-drive XLE. My 2022 has used less than 50 percent of the fuel per mile. We have road trip’s to Florida and Texas more than 11 thousand miles. Was apprehensive before buying because I knew about the 4 cylinder engine. But very happy we bought it!! Last summer I ordered a front wheel drive XLE and was waiting when my dealer noticed a AWD one was available now. So happy with this purchase.
Minivans and specifically Toyota siennas are great and versatile. I have a 2005 with 348k, going strong , low maintaince costs, burns no oil, original engine and transmission and a 2010 with 168k going strong. Those that don’t give them a chance are missing out.
I bought a 2022 Sienna in January and it’s great. I don’t mind about the non-removable 2nd row. I’m a little worried about the lack of rear bumper. I’m in Canada and was forced to get an LE because the temporary spare is not available as an option on the higher trims. I added an aftermarket hitch for a bike rack and the ground clearance at the back isn’t great now.
Nice review! Thank you Toyota for showing some love for the minivan segment. Until recently every van on the market basically had the same 3.5L V6 drivetrain with pretty bad fuel economy especially in city driving. The 4 cylinder together with the hybrid system is plenty smooth and powerful enough, believe me. Yes, there are times when the 4 cylinder might sound like it's working hard but there are times when it's just kind of chugging away and sounds and feels pretty good. Coming from a Honda Odyssey, I'm getting roughly twice the fuel economy and in line with the rated EPA numbers.
We looked at the Highlander Hybrid AWD. Weren’t super impressed. The flip seat is so hard to get to. Our kids wont stay small. We like the ground clearance of our Forester, and at least these give a small Lift. These just make more sense. When the market settles down we will likely get one.
1/2 an inch lifts just feels like a marketing lift to me. I do like the the AWD and inverter. Don't like giving up the kick rear gate opener loss with the trailer hitch. Not a big fan of the cloth seats. I do love AWD. I have an AWD Sienna and love it. Good luck finding a new one that isn't less than $5000 over sticker in my area. I'm gonna wait.
I've owned a minivan for 6 years of my life. It's by far the most useful vehicle with the most utility. After that I got a truck mostly for cool factor - huge disappointment in usability! Why? Imagine my surprise when I discovered that by brand new full size pickup truck with 8' bed can basically carry about the same amount of stuff as my previous minivan did! And yes I could easily carry 8' plywood sheets in my minivan. It was also the perfect camper with huge amounts of space. Truck was.. mediocre camper. I would probably pull the trigger on minivan now if I needed space, but I'll settle for something smaller this time. Almost regretting not needing this amazing Sienna lol
I have 41k, I drive a lot with my 21’ Toyota sienna average around 33mpg driving in sport mode , I went to Boston about 6 times already , Boston have those hills people are worried about, I did not notice a difference of lack of power or lagging when going up in a very steep hill with a 8 people in it but I did notice that my mpg was not averaging 33mpg at all, it went down to 27mpg average, visiting my family and parking in their driveway is very steep, I feel like the electric motors on the sienna do their job well no worries on my end
Why is the spare tire now an option package on the new Sienna. It’s hard to find one with the optional spare tire. Most of new Sienna’s I have found only come with a repair kit for the tire. It’s only a $75 option. I don’t understand why the spare tire is not standard equipment anymore. Enjoy you videos. Keep up the good work
Absolutely! My dealer told me campers, bikers, canoe and kayak enthusiasts all hate the new design. There's a third less cargo space. That's a huge loss.
Minivans are awesome, when you have a minivan, that's when you know you've made it. The minivan is the Red pill of the automotive world. The minivan is what you buy when you're ready to take that leap into a world where you just give everyone you don't care about the finger and truly live your life. I don't care what anyone says, the sienna will soon have a fridge... and if you can't roll down the street and be able to enjoy frozen ice cream anytime you want you are not living.
I got a 2002 Sienna LE that was given to me from my mom since she got tired of it. She and my dad had it since it was brand new. Now, Im a guy who likes sports cars and trucks. Particularly European sports cars. That didn’t stop me from liking the old Sienna. The first generation is a tank. Slow. Transmission likes to shift gears late so the tiny 3.0 liter V6 can keep up with traffic. It once got rear ended by a Hyundai Genesis sedan, which suffered needing a new bumper and headlamp. The Sienna took it like someone threw a piece of paper at it. The unpainted bumper didn’t even have a mark 🤣. This old model doesn’t have seats that fold into the floor. They become tables in the 3rd row, or you can remove them. The chairs are, however, the most comfortable cloth seats on the planet. They have individual arm rests. My Fiancé likes to ride in the 3rd row and be in her fur blanket. Even the 3rd row is extremely comfortable. I just had the interior cleaned up and the windows tinted very dark. They don’t care about tint where I live.
I really enjoy your thoughts. They are logical and are similar to the way I look at things. It's a shame when I see people buying Suburban's and Yukon's (not that there's anything wrong with them)...that they really don't need that capabilities, when a mini van will more than suit their needs. It's all about looking old or like a "Soccer Mom". Shame, cause mini Vans are really good vehicles.
My '18 Sienna definitely had more cargo area than my husband's Suburban. But the 2021's and later have a third less overall cargo space, so this is no longer true.
Many SUVs out there are based off minivan platforms and look just like a minivan minus the sliding door. I traded my minivan for an SUV several years ago and regretted it and traded the suv back for another mini van. When my kids were smaller I liked that they could get into he n by themselves. With the suv, I always had to help them. Also if I need cargo room, I just fold down and remove seats and it’s pretty much a truck with a 6 foot bed.
I think the Woodland trim is the version I'd go with. I do want that increased clearance. I'm not going to camp with it.. But I do end up on Gravel roads and I do deal with significant snow some seasons. I want adequate space for my production gear. Sure I'd prefer if the 2nd row could fold away or be removable.. but it's pretty damn good as it is. The AWD with the raised ride height is extremely helpful in snowy situations. It has enough features for me to be happy. Instead of a larger entertainment center.. I'd probably just install IPads into the headrests.
Put the third row seats down and push the middle seats all they way forward and now you basically have a 6 ft bed truck with a topper.
@@jeffbanfieldsflwr3537 Well said!
Chrysler Pacifica SRT Hellcat will change everything people! Just kidding 😂
I have the 2005 Sienna with 8 seats configuration. After 17 years and 316k miles, it is still bulletproof reliable and very low cost of maintenance that other brands can’t match.
Nice…. You are very smart
I also have one of these, 8 seats and over 300k miles as well. I liked it so much I bought a 2006 8-seater with 220k miles. The last truly excellent year for the Sienna. Super stoked about it.
Wow what were your oil change intervals that you achieved this with? Transmission oil intervals too?
LOL.
FACTS!!!
The people I don't get are the ones who buy crossovers with a 3rd row like the 3rd row matters. When are you going to carry passengers without legs?
All the same excellent points I've been telling my family and they don't understand why I like the Sienna so much
@@PWCDN…..lol in a way
When you’re secure in yourself you realize how awesome Minivans are. No other vehicle is as good at all things. For moving people especially kids, no vehicle comes close.
There’s a reason why it’s popular in europe, even construction workers use minivans over pickups
That’s awesome. Almost as good fuel economy as my 2007 Prius and so much more space!
Exactly!!!!!!
Wow...eventhough they’re only 4 cilinders car?
Electric motors add a lot of torque
I live in Utah and am thinking about to buy it so did you put so many millage so far?
Which family doesn't love a loud Sienna burnout! The best minivan period. If AMD endorses it, I'm buying it!
Since I don’t own a truck I went for the Grand Caravan and have used the extra space many times but I would upgrade to the new Sienna in a heartbeat if the 2nd row removed.
Toyota dropped the ball on that issue
Seems like only Chrysler mastered that art
2010 proud male owner here. LOVE the practicality and use the available space all the time.
176,000 miles and drives great.
Keeping it till it dies 😀
Just know that when you "upgrade" to a 2021 or older model, you'll lose a full THIRD of the cargo capacity. They've stripped the storage and cargo capacity and flexibility of the vehicle.
@@meganharbath6957 Thank for the info. that is bad news for me. I will have to go look at one and check.
@@TinyIslandMaine 2020 has 150 cubic feet behind the front seats, 2021 has 101. It's shocking.
I have a Sienna, You can remove the 2nd-row seats. They have a cheap adapter to use to bypass the airbag feature, These are awesome vehicles.
Do you have _this_ sienna?
In Norway, many workers with work vans install an extra heating unit under the dash to warm up the cabin quicker.
@@user-3tf67bk46uThis is a 1st I’ve heard about inadequate heating while camping.

My grandma gave up driving a few years ago and gave us her van. Never would have even considered one in the past. The amount of stuff we've managed to fit in it alone has blown me away multiple times. They're insanely useful and I think everyone needing a larger vehicle owes it to themselves to at least test one out.
Toyota should make a commercial version of it. it will be a top seller immediately with this kind of storage and MPG.
2 Idiots
I purchased a 22 Prius XLE 2 months ago and love it, especially with the current gas prices. My vacation vehicle is a 2020 Sequoia, put a battery tender on it. Only drive it once a month now.
Our daughters 2012 Sienna is still running great! Moms with kids love their mini-vans!!
Sure it may sound loud and under power but my 2013 Prius sounded like that every day transporting fully loaded with passengers and luggage as a ride share vehicle. After 208, xxx miles the head gasket gave out. This new minivan is just an oversized Prius with AWD😍
I've been binge watching this channel.
Yep, I slid 10 sheets of 4 by 8 sheet plywood in my 2014. And yes, 17 to 19 average fuel per mile.
The Woodlands is raised by just over half an inch (0.6") - and that's the only thing unique to the Woodlands. Seems meaningless (or isn't it)?
The middle of the second row def comes out! To make captain chairs 100% take out so kids can just walk thew the middle and no climbing
That's why I have a 2006. No way I'm going to pay $50,000 for it and then put drywall in it. :)
You could not. There's a third less cargo space. It's a huge loss of functionality.
@@meganharbath6957 A third less? No way. The 2nd row seats fold way up against the front row. And if you want to haul 4x8 or even 4x12 sheetrock you still can; just buy one of those hitch mounted bed extenders.
The shelves by the head unit are so practical. My wife has a Highlander and I love unloading my gear in the shelves while driving/riding. So handy.
I've been selecting Sienna Hybrid as rental anytime I can. Amazing machines with the P-810 transaxle: the same as the Rav4 Prime.
I'm from Buffalo. I think the Woodland with it's 4 WD and added road clearance is just the vehicle we need for our snowy winters.
My kids would LOVE a mini van. We rent them for vacations. They really are perfect for families.
The problem with my sienna is the sagging rear end when loaded,
I think all 7 passenger should have air suspension to accomodate the large variety of loading scenarios.
I plan to install a Ride rite air assist kit to compensate that probleme
i agree. the rear lowers more than an inch, resulting in the headlight pointing high in the sky and blinding everyone infront of me.
Yes. I got air bags in the rear of mine. made all the difference in the drive. I know I overload mine a little. Never had a problem. Great in the snow too.
What year?
what year? And how does one get an air system? how much does it cost? What does it entail, I got a 2020 sienna (not a hybrid)

Yes…looks like a weak spot.

Toyota Sienna, vehicle that I like the most. Toyota is not selling Siennas in Europe, what makes me so sad 😢. Thank you AMD on this video.
Still loving my 2021 Sienna. Camping all the time with a full size mattress in the rear, hauling gear on the roof racks. It's incredible. Just took it on dirt roads in Mexico and it performed great. The A/T tires have affected the MPG slightly but overall still great efficiency.
Did u remove the 2nd row? Biggest reason why I might get a Pacifica over a sienna, but would much rather prefer the reliability of a sienna
@@tony7044 every dealer in state of ArIzona is out of them and there is a 6k dealer markup too… 😂😔
@@taden2007 Yeah, it's rough out there.
They should release a windowless cargo van version of this, maybe with a slightly higher roof and market it towards service companies
(One of the best engines ever made I might add)
The old guy kept flipping me off while he was at it too. 🤣
To this day I have no idea why he did that.
The old guy was a member of the, “anti-destination league”😂
Another good one my friend. The Sienna is the van I would get if I were in the market for a van.
I really like this van AMD and I appreciate you showing us.
There's a you tube video how to take out seats
$350k seems steep for a old minivan. Did a star own it or something? Or was it the white minivan OJ was driving?
@@pryme2013 I think you are joking. I am sure he meant mileage. I wonder if the $1500 was for the purchase and fixing', or just the repairs?
Agreed, I will always have a minivan in my garage. It's practical.
I need that extra ground clearance, thanks for imparting this idea.
CCN keep in it honest & real. Love your videos man! Keep up the great work.
Great job.....New subscriber here...you always address important pros and cons...thanks.
They make a dedicated camper model and put in non-removable seats. Two steps forward, two steps back.
The rest of it seems really neat, though.
Its not a camper model. It has a little more ground clearance, and a unique interior trim.
Keep the old one and buy a new one
@@golferpro1241 tempted, but there are registration fees, insurance and I just got a smog check notice! ugg.
Spot on review from someone who owns one!
I would definitely want AWD for a little extra grip in slippery conditions. Happy trails!!
Minivans and specifically Toyota siennas are great and versatile. I have a 2005 with 348k, going strong , low maintaince costs, burns no oil, original engine and transmission and a 2010 with 168k going strong. Those that don’t give them a chance are missing out.
I am getting 30mpg in my 21 Highlander V6 FWD. Amazing! No heavy foot here. 😊
Probably get 50 in the sienna lol
I bought a 2022 Sienna in January and it’s great. I don’t mind about the non-removable 2nd row. I’m a little worried about the lack of rear bumper. I’m in Canada and was forced to get an LE because the temporary spare is not available as an option on the higher trims. I added an aftermarket hitch for a bike rack and the ground clearance at the back isn’t great now.
@@rightlanehog3151 agreed, the bumper..or lack of..is concerning
RX330 for my daily, 20 Tundra trd pro for my "work," and 23 Sienna XLE AWD for my family. Perfect combination for us. When I say us, I mean me 😂.
I always said I'd never buy a minivan. Got a used 21 limited and man it's the best purchase I've ever made.
What was your out the door price? Considering buying a used woodland but so expensive still
Why is the spare tire now an option package on the new Sienna. It’s hard to find one with the optional spare tire. Most of new Sienna’s I have found only come with a repair kit for the tire.
It’s only a $75 option. I don’t understand why the spare tire is not standard equipment anymore.
Enjoy you videos. Keep up the good work
I’m in Canada and it’s even worse here… the spare is standard on the lowest trim (LE) but not even an option on the upper trims.
That’s crazy. I don’t understand why a spare tire is not standard equipment on all models
Saving weight for better MPG's.
You can remove the second row seats if you wanted to. You have to plug a cheap device in to disable the airbags.
Wouldn't the lack of the removal of the second row seats make it uninviting for camping for some
@Ha Ha Nguyening Adventures Well said!!
Buy small refrigerator camp and plug it in on its 115 AC 1500 watts, U can plug microwave or u can use it as generator during power outage.
What are your thoughts on installing a 3" lift kit on a 2021 Sienna?
Many SUVs out there are based off minivan platforms and look just like a minivan minus the sliding door. I traded my minivan for an SUV several years ago and regretted it and traded the suv back for another mini van. When my kids were smaller I liked that they could get into he n by themselves. With the suv, I always had to help them. Also if I need cargo room, I just fold down and remove seats and it’s pretty much a truck with a 6 foot bed.
The new sienna is not perfect, but it’s the best
I think the Woodland trim is the version I'd go with.
I do want that increased clearance. I'm not going to camp with it..
But I do end up on Gravel roads and I do deal with significant snow some seasons.
I want adequate space for my production gear.
Sure I'd prefer if the 2nd row could fold away or be removable.. but it's pretty damn good as it is.
The AWD with the raised ride height is extremely helpful in snowy situations.
It has enough features for me to be happy.
Instead of a larger entertainment center.. I'd probably just install IPads into the headrests.
Thanks very much for the video. You didn't mention the biggest drawback of the Woodland... Color choice is limited to grey or black.
I was just searching to see if you had a video on the new sienna yesterday
