Its 2020 today as I finish editing this video. Thank you so much for being here, and sharing each new day with me.
Yesterday, I had a ewe lamb give birth to her first lambs! The problem with ewe lambs is knowing whether or not to interfere.
Its best to leave them if possible so they can get the full experience of lambing on their own. I think a ewe ends up being a better mother, and bonds better if they can really go through the motions of labour.
BUT.
Sometimes, a ewe lamb is just really small for a big lamb to pop out on their own and you have to make a judgement call.
In this case, I made the decision to help.

When you said 2019 wasn't great I thought just wait a few months lol.
Cow friendship is a REAL thing- i take care of 300 cows in Alberta and i have seen life long deep friendships with cows that were penned together for some time!
My Holstein heifers have such a deep friendship that they cant go anywhere without each other
@@cindyshaw7364 Ya i had two cows penned next to each other in our calving barn for a couple of weeks..when i finally moved one out they both bellered constantly for one another for two straight days till i finally moved them back in together!..lol

@@abigaildeeks8328 I just realized i had a video of one of the cows, her buddy was in the next pen to left...not only was she friends with the other cow, 34Z and i became super close as well..she would always walk up to me and say hello- no matter where i was, out in the pasture, pen or out on the graze land!

Ann Marie Covert FAM .....I think Sandi is just a special person to all of us. I find myself waiting for her to smile when she sees new lambs or saves one or just watches them. I watch her deal with the roof rain under the new roof and the sight of the light shining up through the new roof the first night it was up will always be in my heart. This really is a unique and special channel.

My son is 8 and he now watches “the sheep lady” to calm down from his anxiety attacks. You are doing long distance therapy! He doesn’t like the blood and stuff but I keep explaining it’s normal. Could you mention that in a video at some point? I don’t think he believes me that the sheep are not really hurt by the lambing! Happy new year lady!

I actually do the exact same thing to deal with my panic, since I found the channel! That's so nice that he found a way to handle anxiety attacks early, good on ya both.

Ahh how precious. What a sweet young man to be to even be interested in good animal care. A tender heart there! I'm a great granny and occasionally I decide to become the praying granny for certain people. I don't know your son's name but God does and I appoint myself his other praying granny. Good boy good son great heart!

Good idea about moving the rams to cattle barn. This will help with your space problem . And may help when it comes to tupping. Rams will be more keen to work. Keep going Sandi

Usually I get grossed out when you go in without gloves but even I wanted to pull out that baby on the ewe lamb lol. Poor Ellie - so heartbreaking! I’ll miss the cows a lot but it will be best for her to not be alone.
Agreed. It's sad but good for all concerned. Ellie is a herd animal - with the Jersey gone - she needs other cows.

Thank goodness you were there for those twins, I think mum was struggling a little and to be honest, yes it’s best to let it happen naturally and all that but she sure was grateful you made it quick for her. I have seen unreal prolapse in ewes where they are pushing so hard like that. Better to intervene and save mum. Happy new year to you and yours 🥰

Re watching some old episodes, and January 1, 2020 sandy saying her wish for the new year was that her family could take more time to spend together. She got that, in a somewhat backhanded way from the universe, but I think it made us all slow down and get that time I think we all wished we could have. Now it’s the challenge of keeping it up.

I fell in love with all the new lambs especially the little black ones with white marking. My hat off to you. I use to work on dairy farms back when I was in my 20s and 30s. There is nothing so joyful when baby animals are born.

I can remember being a young teen, thinking that in 2000 I would be 40, and now 60 is a month and a half away. My kids are grown, and my grandchildren are fast beoming the teens I once was.

Thank you for ALL your videos. The past four days have been awful with fires here in CA and we missed mandatory evacuation by three blocks, but the smoke, OMG, if there’d been someplace to go, or the roads would have been less clogged (Niece went 20 miles in 3 hours and absolutely NO hotels/motels with any availability) we’d have evac’d anyway. You’re a blessed distraction.

I grew up on a polled herford farm. I used to get so jealous of kids my age that lived in the suburbs and city. Now that i am an adult I realize how great i had it.
Sandi, I so love your videos! You remind me of myself when I was living at home on the dairy farm in upstate central NY. You put in 150% like I always did and don't like to do anything half way. Your videos are always so educational and entertaining at the same time. Guess I like them most because you do things the way I would. I'm a retired RN and live in California now. I get my farm and gardening fix by watching videos like yours. Keep up the great work! Ken

@@rachelsark6148 I would ask your subscribers.But i would recommend struggles with different things from lambing getting them to market weigh. The viewers manly think farming not difficult but it truly is content like that would more then likely help your channel grow.Also I will start posting vids like Sandi's in a week or 2.

Wow Sandi, I am about like you , I was saying help mommy lamb and sure enough I knew you could not stand there any longer !! And you know why not if you can be there and help, help ? No different from woman going to hospital for delivery but they get pain meds and mommy lambs don’t do yea help them keep them from hurting too bad !!! Great job !! Those were so cute !!! Question... What are you going to do with the ewes that had stillborn babies due to the virus situation? Are they going to be shipped or given a second go around? I recall you saying that the Ewe that rejected her lamb will go to auction with the lambs you are growing out. (Unless it was another video I was watching hahaha)

The lamb that was nursing even before its mom stood up WAS hilarious!!!!! Definitely a good sign that it is so enthusiastic, any chance of it being held back as potential breeding stock? Granted, I have less experience with sheep than with other farm animals
