    Great, Maddie! Very informative. I just got my TB skin test yesterday and am having it read tomorrow. I thought I had remembered something about it being a raised bump regardless of whether or not you were positive, and positivity being a matter of bump diameter. However, mine is completely flat and, like yours, dissipated within about an hour of being injected. Now I know that means I'm negative. Thanks a bunch!

    Hi Maddie! I found your video because I was looking for an explanation of what to expect at a TB 2-step skin test. I work for a company that provides screening services for students. We also verify immunization records for students that are going into the Healthcare field, just like you in Dental Assisting. These students often struggle with getting the 2-step right, lots of times because they think the reading is the second step. I love your video and would like to share it with students as a resource. Our experience with many of these students leads us to believe that they won't watch a video that is 10 minutes long, or they might skim through it and miss important parts. Do you think you might ever consider making a condensed version of this video? Students also get confused about other tests and vaccines they are required to get, like Hep B, positive titers, and how to find historic immunization records. You have a very clear and direct way of speaking, and you are incredibly thorough, and I believe this type of video could be very helpful for students. Thanks for making this!

    Hi, I am so glad to see you answer your comments and heart them. I like your candid scientific method direct way of speaking, like the masters of teaching I care most about speak too, for example Carl Sagan, Jacque Cousteau, Marlin Perkins and Ocean Ramsey, the female youtube marine bioligist. Can you help me? I believe I've contracted, Cold Urticaria-- within a couple of days after getting a required tb test for a public works sector job. I have always even reflected an inner boast in my life about my usual joy and great tolerance to extreme cold, living in Pittsburgh most of my life, and, just moved into a new apartment all day and evening long in 3 feet of wet snow banks and 20 degree weather and wind blowing all day. All I needed was a cup of coffee my whole life in stories just like that, including 11 years I drove a Toyota 4 Runner with a completely open back in icy cold conditions and exposure, and soaking wet seats and clothing from cold rain too. All was fine my whole life, until at age 48, I got my first ever required tb test to work my first ever public sector job. Whatever I may have had the tb test as a baby or high school, I no longer remember, but regardless, they obviously created the normal, no effects, result. I had already been working more than a month-- at the Pittsburgh Zoo, outside sweeping and grounds maintenance, in cold air and rain and cold tools of metal and wood and sitting on cold-wet concrete and wooden benches like any other ordinary day in my life. This was in the brisk weather of March. I just did that coffee day cold move in November. A few days after getting the test, while outside, rain water fell off a tent tarp the grounds crew and I were putting up, and my shoulder with a Zoo t-shirt got soaked. I immediately got blister hives all over the effected area. Initially, I thought the rain water had some weird bacteria in it, maybe from being locked up in a plastic tarp for an unknown time, but soon I noticed it happening a lot. If I even touched cold pipes or sat down outside, even when the wind blew, my skin got red rashes, water blisters, itching like ants, and even white pimple poxings. I knew it happened because of that tb test. "What did they put in me?!" I thought. I have had Cold Urticaria, known as, Cold Hives since 2016, for 3 years now since. I did research and found tb testing "may cause Urticaria and/or Cold Urticaria in very rare cases." I also saw a medical professional on youtube give his opinion, perhaps you've seen him, where he desribes a danger in tb testing because the Tuberculine used, may, "affect the healthy tb bacteria in our systems we get from mother's milk, that defends the body particularly against cancer cell development due to stress." He further stated, "the placement of Turburculine thus may cause such alterations to directly, how the IMMUNITY SYSTEM works-- thus in effect, alter it." I have come to know a connection : Cold Urticaria/Hives , is due to an IMMUNITY SYSTEM's now, over-reaction-- to an otherwise previously normal exposure stimulus. The Immunity system has been altered from a previous homeo stasis hasn't it? It now is triggered to over-release HYSTAMINE, by exagerrated proportions that it did not lose function to do that function previously. ? The high concentrations of HYSTAMINE dialate the skin cells causing any irritation variation as mentioned already. Is there an ANTI SERUM, to, apparently, the agent existent in-- TURBERCULINE ? I am am absolutely certain my Cold Urticaria appeared within the next days in the same week I got that tb test. I had already worked a few weeks waiting for a paycheck to pay for the test outside as weather described. No problem. Then, the tb test , I could pay the $55 after a couple weeks of work. Then, Cold Hives: Cold Urticaria immediately after and 3 years later since. Can you please write me with anything you know regarding this. Especially, a cure? And, if there are others having this rare immunity system disorder, URTICARIA or/and COLD URTICARIA-- if they can also trace back the usually quoted, "sudden appearance of it, at a particular age-- usually in youth (perhaps after they got a tb test too, as we do at those ages?), " could you make any scientific connection to this and help me please, and any other science in this question, or person/s Please. ? Please Help. I look forward to any knowledge you may have or know. Thank You very much. Truly, Daniel

    I remember when I used to make these TST TB under the skin test I would get a very strong reaction. Big bump and red around it as well.
    Fast forward, when I got my first shot of COVID vaccine Moderna, I developed chills and fever on and off that lasted for 5 days. Which is very unusual as these side effects if any are gone in 24 hours for most people. • @MaddieNielsen
      @MaddieNielsen  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This test is highly accurate and valid. If the wheal doesn’t disappear or the induration becomes enlarged (measured in millimeters), then it is considered a positive test. Often times, if you have had a positive TB skin test, you will then be prompted to take a Quantiferon Gold blood test. If the blood test comes back positive, then a chest x-ray will be ordered to confirm if the TB is considered active or inactive within the body. I hope this helps answers all your questions!!

      I am not aware of safe medications during pregnancy to take for TB. A medical doctor would know what is safe and not safe to take for a pregnant woman with TB. If there is any amount of induration in mm (it doesn’t necessarily have to be like a bubble), it is a positive TB test.

    • @MaddieNielsen
      @MaddieNielsen  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No. If the wheal has disappeared, you most likely do not have TB. The medical professional is just looking for an increase in the size/reaction with the wheal itself. I had some blood with mine too when the needle went in. They just need to be able to measure the wheals diameter in mm in order to see if you have been exposed to TB in the past. Good luck to you!!

    • @MaddieNielsen
      @MaddieNielsen  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This is interesting. I have never had one stay red for long. It’s possible that you could have a little dermatological reaction to the tuberculin agent. I believe there is a certain level of measurement in mm that is considered positive. It may be 10mm or higher that is considered positive. But I am not completely sure...

    Now how do you cure the fear of needles

    • @MaddieNielsen
      @MaddieNielsen  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I wish I could answer that. As a type 1 diabetic, fearing needles or sharp instruments isn’t really a choice. For me, sometimes not looking when they are inserting the needle for the test helps me not feel so tense about needles.

      It’s okay to be afraid. But it’s standing up to your fears head on is what builds your character and makes you stronger!!

    Hi , Is it normal to have red bump before 48 hours and after that it gets vanished ? what does it mean ?

    • @MaddieNielsen
      @MaddieNielsen  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A little redness at the injection site is normal. However, persistent redness long after the test may indicate a dermatological skin reaction. I would consult your physician for further clarification.

    Working in healthcare does that increase your risk to being exposed to TB?

    • @MaddieNielsen
      @MaddieNielsen  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes. Because you may be seeing patients that have it. Even in the dental clinic, we have to be tested for this once a year. Also, certain disinfecting wipes have to be able to kill the TB spores in case of an outbreak!!

    • @MaddieNielsen
      @MaddieNielsen  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      they are just looking for a raised and red reaction to determine if you have had an exposure to TB
