I'm also Scottish and I also love it. All the better for not having a lot of songs. Disney, take a telling - your animated movies don't need to be full of songs. Also --- no bloody terrible "cute" animal sidekick. Realyl enjoyable movie.
To be fair, it's not the witches fault if the people don't know what they want or aren't prepared to live with the consequences of their wishes. Both "Change my mum" and "strength of ten men" were granted just as requested.
Merida thinks that mending the bond torn by pride means repairing the tapestry, but that doesn't actually work. It's only when she apologizes to her mother that the spell is broken.
One of the more underrated Pixar movies imo. The mother-daughter relationship is so well done, and the fight at the end is as epic as it is emotional. Literally don't f**k with mama bear's cub!
Fun fact, the guy in the trials, the one that was distinctly NOT an arrogant prick or an imbecile was originally going to be a love interest after speaking out on her behalf, applauding her decision and bravery. Ultimately they decided...she didn't _need_ a love interest and scrapped it. Having a Disney princess that was single and, at least for the time being, stayed that way.
"I bet you the dad dies!" One of the few Disney films where both parents survive, lol(okay, I guess it's "the other studio"but still!) Theres a headcanon I have around the wisps. The ones that find Merida when she's a child lead her back to her family to save her and lead her away from Mor'du. The ones that appear to lead her to her mother also lead Mor'du to his end(and, since the spirits of the dead are shown to become the wisps, I think it also means that his brothers, who he slew and never could "mend the bond"(emotionally)with tried to help lead him to his end(which he's shown to be grateful for.)
Weaklings: The witch tricked Merida! Intellectuals: Merida asked for a spell that would change her mom. She didn’t specify how it should change her mom. Therefore the witch technically didn’t trick Merida
Second point: having witnessed my mother's death, hell having made the choice to pull her plug, the themes of this movie resonate well and make me cry every time.p
the producers said in a commentary that Merida was a departure from all the other Disney princesses; NOT the "damsel in distress", an archer that can take care of herself... even cleans the stable of her horse!
Id say its just an easter egg, but also fits well in the setting given the old legends of the British isles of the Wood Wose, basically the British version of Bigfoot, large hairy primitive men that lived in the woods and preyed on or scared travelers. Its unfortunately one of the more forgotten legends from England.
Bravo metro, I loved Cherry's "I didn't catch any of that" when she speaks in Ralph Breaks The Internet. Definitely made me miss my cable so I could tune in on some Disney haha but I can't even afford Disney+ I'm a whimp🙇🏻
"She is going to need some meat... she's a bear after all" ACTUALLY bears are omnivores. They eat meat (usually fish and other small animals) but they also eat plants and fruits.
One of my two favourite 3D animated movies: Brave and The Incredibles. I absolutely love Merida! Easily the best "Disney princess", hands down. Glad you got a chance to watch it!
The woman who sings the title track to this movie "Touch the Sky" is amazing. Her name is Julie Fowlis. A lot of her music is performed in Scottish Gaelic, it's fun to listen to even if you don't understand the language, so check it out if you're interested.
Remember Mary, "There are no accidents." And always understand a spell fully before uttering a single word of it. How to cast one and disable one. Just think of Agatha and Wanda...
I love this movie! I highly recommend watching a short film called "The legend of Mor'du", it's a great companion piece for the film that flashes out Mor'du's character.
Just to let you know, it wasn't the tapestry that was being talked about when the witch said "Fate Be Changed, Look Inside, Mend The Bond Torn By Pride", it was referring to the bond between the mother and the daughter, in Mordu's case, it was his bond with his family
Merida also appears as a guest character in the 5th season of the fairy tale drama series Once Upon a Time. In the show, she's portrayed by Amy Manson.
She was so upset looking at the bow as in the start scene it was the same bow that her dad made for her on that day where he lost his leg fighting the bear for their safety
No it’s not. That bow would be way too small for a girl of Merida’s age at the time skip. Merida likely carved that bow herself, which is just as meaningful as it’s her own work and she loves archery, she does carry it with her everywhere.
Obviously it wasn't the same bow no but we are supposed to think it is the same bow as it puts the meaning behind it that she nearly just destroyed the thing her dad gave to her that day when he gave a leg to protect them, childhood memories/trauma and all that
The lesson is to take responsibility for your actions, own your mistakes especially if they affect other people, take your own future into your own hands, the good and the bad
I didn't get what 'Merida' from Brave meant at first. I just thought "What's 'Brave'?" Then I figured out that it must be the English movie title. In German the movie name is just "Merida", so I was really confused at first.
Two PHENOMENAL animated movies I recommend are “Kubo and the Two Strings” and “Paranorman” 😃 They are magical, deep, and so emotional! And just great films
27:58 sadly bears were wiped out in the UK and i believe even Ireland had some. There may have even once been wolves. A sad tale when it comes to the nonhuman animals of Europe. While I know its been a year since youve watched it I wonder if you have discovered The Big Four. Hiccup, Jack Frost, Merida, and Rapunzel a rabbit hole that I wasn’t planning for and yet the beauty of the fanart was worth it.
I watched this movie at school when I was in 5th grade a long time ago it made me obsessed with this movie probably because bears are one of my favorite animals 🐻
First of all I am so glad that you FINALLY reacted to this movie I watched it not too long ago and I was upset that I didn't see it sooner Brave is such an underrated movie and it has to be one of my favorite princess movies the story was so good I just wished that they made a second still hoping that they MIGHT! Anyways I can't wait for more content from you and I hope that you are doing well and staying safe and healthy! 😄😊
You may know that all Pixar movies are released with a separate short film as a curtain raiser. The one that came out with Brave (La Luna) is beautiful; you should check it out.
Yes Will-o-the-wisps have been a thing in folk lore for centuries. they were rarely actually a good thing though. :) Love Brave. Probably one of my favorite of the newer style animations, next to Inside Out. :)
Was surprised how much I enjoyed this as Hollywood Scotland rarely does well lol was great having Billy Connolly as the dad and other prominent Scottish actors involved.
Loved Merida for her independence and courage!! I vote for you to watch Princess And The Frog next. She’s also super independent and determined and I love her!! 🐸
My favorite Disney animated movie. Merida replaced Belle as my favorite princess and I still get excited when I run into her at Disneyland as a 40 year old man…lol. Never understood all the hype for frozen over Brave and Moana to be honest.
This is an awesome movie. I'm Scottish by heritage somewhere from my Father's side. I loved how Merida knows she's no where ready to be married up to some dope who she doesn't Love and who wouldn't Love her. In the movie, she's probably no more than 16 yrs old.
God I love this movie. As an Irish American I feel close to the Scots. And to those who take issue the, ancient Celts became the Irish, British, and Scottish so yes we're connected, regardless of how we've treated each other over the centuries. Remember that the Celtic helped create Americans, and so we may have a lot of blame.
Love this movie 🎥ever since I first saw it Merida was my second favorite Disney Princess 👸💖and that's saying something since Princess Leia is technically a Disney Princess 👸💖
I saw this on file and Kelly MacDonald was perfect as Merida! Billy Connolly as King Fergus and Emma Thonpson as Queen Elnor were both perf, too! and U R a Beaute! 🤪 Their accents are spot-on! 😀
Will o' the wisps can kill as with almost every germanic mythical creature but they can also be nice so Merida was lucky, but they do indeed reward people's good behavior to the environment they're protecting and nature in general.
In the Philippines, the will o' wisp is known as Santilmo or St. Elmo's fire.. according to lore, it will lead yours or somebody else's soul to the next life... according to legends, Whenever there is a thick fog, st. Elmo will go to the rocky shores with a lantern so the sailors will know it is dangerous on that part
I think the mending wasn't the tapestry...is was her speech to bear/mom after the battle - mend that. Have you done "There's something about Mary [Cherry?]"

I'm not gonna lie brave is a good movie for reactions.
"The Dothraki came" ...and somebody hasn't seen Braveheart. Let the requests in!
*IF YA COULD CHANGE YA FAET WOUDJA!?!*
As a Scot, I loved this movie a lot and I love how a lot of the cast were actually Scottish. Billy Connolly as the dad is just perfection
never mind for being the da....the big yin is always perfection
absolutely!
I love that they actually put Doric in there.
Much love to our Scottish cousins from the island of Ireland.

3 Bonds that had been torn by pride were repaired by Merida's actions.
The tapestry, the tribes, and that of Merida and her mother.
@@MrGBH Good point
@@jhurshman I fully believe that it was the mother/daughter bond which did it, Merida is just an over-achiever

Disney and Pixar don’t forget Merida official Disney princess this Disney Movie

Ultimately they decided...she didn't _need_ a love interest and scrapped it. Having a Disney princess that was single and, at least for the time being, stayed that way.
I’m glad that they didn’t give her a love interest tbh
To be fair they could have had him stand up for her and NOT be a love interest. But I get why they chose to have no one stand up for her as well.
I believe Merida at the time was the first official Disney princess who was single. Later on Elsa and Moana joined her
@@Error_-ct2vp don’t forget Raya and Mirabel
@@Error_-ct2vp I mean technically Moana isn't a princess and Elsa is a queen.

This movie is one of the most underrated movies. I love Merida and she is my favorite Princess. A badass archer who doesn't need a man to protect her.
Second point: having witnessed my mother's death, hell having made the choice to pull her plug, the themes of this movie resonate well and make me cry every time.p
I'm so sorry you had to make that decision. Bless you and your family x I'm sure wherever your mum is she was proud of you and your choice x
one of those movies that i had zero expectations going in and was really impressed in the end. amazing animation, and it packs an emotional punch.
the producers said in a commentary that Merida was a departure from all the other Disney princesses; NOT the "damsel in distress", an archer that can take care of herself... even cleans the stable of her horse!

it's not boo, Pixar put that as an easter egg, because the next movie after brave was monster university

I'm loving so much Mary Cherry's Disney movie hours!!! Can't wait for more!!💗✨
On the DVD special features, the witch tells the tale of Mor'du, very interesting in my opinion.
If you haven’t, you should take a chance to see the short story of Mor’du. It fills in the gaps about his history.
this is one of my favorite Disney movies. it's really good
Lowpassing the copyrighted music was a clever touch! I liked that we could hear at least parts of it!
You can see a wood carving of a Pizza truck and Sully from Monsters Inc. in the Witch’s home.
