I love the fact that the film heavily implies that the reason our WALL-E was the only one to still be going is that it didn't function properly, ie the reason it collected things and had a personality which is also why it repairs itself rather than working until fully breaking down

It'd be nice if that were explained somehow.. Why this unit was different. Although a "lightning strike" would be a direct tie to Johnny Five from "Short Circuit." (And previous to that, an electrical / data overload that makes "Edger" sentient in the movie "Electric Dreams.")

Besides the main characters, my second favorite is Moe. He’s so OCD about cleaning that he steps out of his indicated line just so he can clean up after Wall-E who is leaving a trail of “foreign contaminant “. 🙂
He’s not sure what will happen since he’s never done that before and he closes his eyes and is clearly scared when he jumps out of line.
But once he sees it’s okay, he proceeds to follow Wall-E all over the ship cleaning the floor as he goes.
Even though Wall-E stepped on his face (which made him scream), and created extra work for him all over the ship, he’s not really mad at him. He’s mad at the dirt.
And when Wall-E properly introduces himself to him, Moe actually cleans Wall-E’s hand before shaking it. Talk about a germaphobe. 😉
    Soooo adorable and funny!! 🤗❤️
Yes, I am a clean freak myself, so cute little Moe has a very special place in my heart. 💜 ❤️

WALL-E (and M-O and the majority of the "male" robots) are done by Ben Burtt, the legendary sound designer who created the sound effects for the Star Wars Saga (bar the sequel trilogy) and Indiana Jones. He's the guy behind the blaster fire, Darth Vader's breathing, R2-D2's voice, the lightsabers, Chewbacca's voice, the TIE Fighter engines, the list goes on. He also created the sound effects for this movie, which he did early on as Andrew Stanton wanted the film to relied on sound effects rather than dialouge, making it a "silent film" (they watched a lot of Buster Keaton, Charlie Chaplin and some Harold Lloyd for inspiration for how the robots should acting using little dialouge as possible).

That was the great comedic actor Fred Willard as the B&L spokesman. John Ratzenberger and Cathy Najimy were John and Mary and Jeff Garlin was the Captain.
The glowing red thing in the middle of the steering wheel was a reference to HAL in 2001. They even played some of the 2001 music during the scene where the captain was fighting the wheel.

In real life, a roach does get killed if squished like other bugs and definitvely by a laser blast.

To me, the most amazing thing is how the film's director somehow made a fat guy getting back up on his feet after being knocked down such an awesome, awesome thing. And the fact that they set Captain McCrea standing back up to Also Sprach Zarathustra -- which has been the musical 'dawn of a new age' leitmotif since at least 2001: A Space Odyssey -- is just awesome sauce on an already awesome scene.
