Mother opossum calling to orphaned babies

- This opossum is recovering from a head injury, and already has ten babies in her pouch. When she heard three new orphan opossum arrivals making baby opossum "pish" distress calls, she responded with mom opossum "lip smacking" behavior. This sound is used when babies become separated from mom to help them find her again, and male opossums make a similar sound when courting a female. Even though mom seems interested in these youngsters, she has plenty to take care of already. She won't be adopting three more right now, although we might give it a try when her own babies are eating on their own.
So sweet, even injured she is caring for her babies and wants to take care of the orphaned ones. Good momma!

Aww! I didn't know mother opossums would adopt orphan babies! Even with an extremely full plate, she still wants to do something about them.
Thanks for posting this. Opossums rarely get intimate glimpses into their more subtle behaviors and this is a fine one. Worth it to note that the males also will make a "click" noise when browsing. I've had several male 'guests', one who would prowl around the house making a clicking sound that was almost electric in intensity, sort of like snapping a credit card against a table top.

@@zacharyhonachi2166 all animals taste delicious. its about the preperation though. whether it is human meat or dog meat or even chicken its all about how you prepare it. animals eat other animals. its not all to wrong to eat eachother we just morally look down upon. thats why i think vegans are stupid. they think animals dont eat other animals but they do.
Opossums are so cute. They are amazingly compatible with humans, at least do not seem to fear humans. Other videos I’ve seen show them as pets.

You know, I used to wonder why doesn't someone make a mouse trap for possums. I was ignorant. The sight alone creeped me out. Oposums everywhere, sorry.

Canada here.
Some possums hitchhike their way up to Ontario only to find the winters don't agree with them . I'm presently watching my favorite nocturnal visitor gobble up his nightly vegetables, eggs ,dog food melin dinner and hoping I will be able to convince him/her whathaveyou that lodgings in my straw filled barn are far more conducive to staying alive .
My barn is about 150 ft from where he usually is sighted inspecting my garage cans and his bowl of food and water. I mean it's got to understand at this point that it's being left out for him, no?
