    I don’t buy into the “aluminum is bad for u” marketing, but aluminum antiperspirants genuinely irritate my skin, are impossible to wash off unless I shave it off, and leave me with painful, clogged sweat glands. So to that end, I’m happy there’s a market of aluminum-free options.

    • @Leroset
      @Leroset 4 ปีที่แล้ว +114

      Same. I used to use the standard women’s aluminum deodorants exclusively, but then I developed a rash that only went away when I switched products. To be honest, I still wish I could use aluminum-containing deodorants. I just don’t like having my freedom to choose between products taken away from me.

    • @ellemathews9840

      How can you say all of that and go on to say you dont buy into it ? Aluminum DOES clog people's pores, that is why they put it in. So yes, aluminum is bad for you. Science may not back up that sweating out toxins improves your health but I dont need a scientist to have common sense . Common sense says your body does things a certain way because it NEEDS to!

    • @kittylovesgod714

      Elle Mathews She pretty much just said alumina do you odorant clogs your pores to stop it from sweating that doesn’t sound right. I mean it’s no different than if you were to use a cleanser or some sort of skin care thing on your face and it clogs your pores you don’t want that. It’s like people saying they use a foundation for their face they clog their pores no skin care or deodorant do you want clocking anywhere on your face or your body. Who want any product that you use on your skin who wants to use skin care or deodorant or foundation who wants to use want the clog your pores. No one does all my gosh this foundation or the skin care product quite my pores and it’s good for my skin like no. Anything to clog the pores is bad. We may not like the smell we may not like sweating but anything it clogs it stops it from happening that’s not a good sign. I have never heard anyone say that natural deodorant is bad for you and that the aluminum kind is better for you because it clogs your pores to stop it from sweating like you want to sweat that’s a normal good thing. If you don’t normally sweat a lot or sweat much that’s fine but if you’re someone who sweats a lot and use a deodorant the clogs your pores and stopped you from sweating I would find that a little bit odd.

    • @kittylovesgod714
      @kittylovesgod714 4 ปีที่แล้ว +19

    Ive used regular deodorant for most of my life and it turned my pits dark and it caused swollen clogged pores which was painful at times. Switching to non aluminum has cleared these issues for me. I still sweat with the non aluminum but i dont stink which is what i am looking for. Sweating is natural. This has been my experience. I’ve used anti-perspirant my whole life and I’ve never had an issue like this. I see a lot of comments saying that they had issues with it but also a lot of comments saying that they don’t. Could it be a sensitivity to it that you might have that other people don’t? I think sometimes we try to have a one size fits all solution, but people are different.

I know aluminum can be beneficial to people who sweat way more than the average person but I've also sweat a pretty decent amount and I find it normal although I do end up showering when I get home. I feel like as long as I don't stink and don't hug anyone when I'm sweaty then I can manage (or just wipe some of the sweat off in the restroom if i can).

And look at the story of asbestos for example, it was used for so long for insulation in homes, and now it has been shown to have a direct link to cancer! So there are many things that have not been intensively studied or even understood, so unless it’s absolutely needed it’s best to limit the use. Even Acetaminophen for example, it’s so commonly to take yet its odd that scientists still do not know the mechanism of action! So they don’t know where it acts in our bodies and many ppl take it so casually!

      @Aletheia Backs The creator of Lumē says to “prep” your clothes too. Lumē is water based where other deodorants/antiperspirants (natural or not) are wax or oil based. They “melt” into your clothes and do not wash out easily & can maintain previously trapped odors that will rear their ugly heads when you sweat… regardless of what deodorant you’re wearing. So to prep your clothes, you can use Nature’s Miracle (an enzyme spray made to clean animal stains & odors) or use Persil as a laundry detergent. With the spray, you can spray the under arms of your clothes when you take them off (I spray my undies, too) and just toss it in the laundry. You don’t have to wash them right away, the spray will not mess up your clothes.

    Speaking personally, when I stopped using antiperspirants I stopped getting hyperhydrosis. It was counter intuitive. I do not believe aluminium is bad and I know you are totally right about bicarbonate of soda.
    I find the wasteful and horrible smelling mass produced stuff in crappy plastic packing really annoying - that's driving my choises. I have heard good things about some acid toners though.

    • @carvedwood1953
      @carvedwood1953 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I completely agree. I kept going higher and higher percentage of aluminum in my deodorant to combat hyperhidrosis. One day I started worrying more about alzheimers because that shit is scary as hell to me. I started using aluminum free and found my sweating actually decreased greatly. After a while I switched to lume natural and found it eliminates odors better than any prescription strength dermatologist stuff. The only reason I want to switch back is to save money lol.

Buy a little spray bottle to pour the toner in and spray it! Also helps with ingrown hairs! But then menopause 😂 I am back to aluminum deodorant because I smell like a teenager hitting puberty again! There's a factory in my town that makes some type of aluminum product, and majority of workers develop some kind of cancer after 15 years of working. i think it's important to remember that natural (made with plant extracts etc) isn't always better, but it's also not always worse. some deodorants that are marketed as natural are baking soda-free and work better for some people. do your research, determine what works best for you, and don't avoid all natural skincare products on the basis that the "natural" skincare community tends to use pseudoscience and essential oils. there are many responsible brands out there that don't fit that stereotype, and small amounts of essential oils aren't detrimental to everyone.

    I think this fails to consider that when you change deodorants, the bacteria that your underarms are hospitable to changes; when you remove aluminum deodorants from the mix (many of which have similar formulations and can be fed on by the same kinds of bacteria), you potentially change the microflora in your underarms.
    I used aluminum deodorants for 15 years and always felt like they made me smell/sweat more and regularly damaged my clothes; the more ‘powerful’ (clinical strength) I used, the worse it got. When I switched to natural deodorants 10 years ago I went through about a pretty sweaty month where it was a difficult adjustment, and then after that (and some experimenting with brands), it was like a switch flipped and I found that I sweat less (significantly so, as in an 80+% reduction in wetness and the longer I went some days it seems like I practically don’t sweat at all), it takes about 24 hours or more now for my underarms to smell from sweat (with aluminum deos I could smell after a few hours if I was hot). Even at times when natural deodorants don’t stop me from sweating, it doesn’t bother me because *it virtually never smells* (never any BO smell, sometimes just a plain Shea butter type smell) so I just need to let my underarms get some air and it’s fine. Natural deodorants were game changing for me, and I don’t know anyone else whose experience hasn’t mirrored mine once they stuck through that ~1month adjustment period.

    Regarding this topic, I bought my first Vanicream anti-perspirant years ago & have always had a good experience with it.

      @Ryker lol, we don't have natural aluminium in our bodies so stop with this bs. Natural deodorants cost more cause it's made by smaller manufacturers that have morals. Check Ben&Anna which is very popular in less/zero-waste circles. Small companies, innovative formulas, packaging, marketing, and CSR (cleaning oceans etc). I prefer these companies than some big mogule like coty or unilever.

    The goal of using deodorant shouldn’t be to stop sweating, it should be to not stink! Your sweat are the toxins that are supposed to leave the body! When you block that, it just sits there, you are not helping the body!
    Aluminum is a metal! Why should you use something that has aluminum, a (metal)!
    That’s why I use a natural deodorant. You can even make it at home with no chemicals and you can actually just use things you eat everyday! Even if the deodorant says natural you should always read the ingredients!
    Most people here in the comments has 2 things in common…. Everyone has bumps and swollen lymph nodes… why because of the Aluminum!

    EVERYTIME I use aluminum deodorant I get Hidradenitis Suppurativa lumps in my armpits. (Either small hard pea-sized lumps or large swollen lumps). Then when I quit the aluminum deodorant and apply antibiotics daily, the lumps go away. Last time I got them again I had saw your video saying aluminum deodorant were fine. So I tried them again at night and the same thing happened. So I’m sticking with aluminum free, because it doesn’t hurt my armpits, so I don’t have to worry. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Also there is a study on this from 1982 called, “The Role of Depilation and Deodorants in Hidradenitis Suppurativa”. There are an equal number of analyses that disagree with Dr. Dray here too, suggesting that aluminum does everything the fearmongers claim, so we can't go based on who-said-what. What I do know is, aluminum does make the anti-perspirant extremely difficult to wash off, and when it combines with the sweat in your skin, it leads to that awful discoloration (and sometimes "crunchy" texture) in the pits of your shirts. That is a 100% irrefutable fact. A lot of people also end up with rashes, swelling, and soreness. So while it may not be detrimental to your health, overall, it does have a lot of irritating side effects. The "natural" deodorant marketers are doing just that - marketing. But how is that any different from the big pharma companies that sell anti-perspirant? Or shampoo where they tell you on the bottle to wash twice every time (even though that horrendously dries out your scalp, so buy conditioner!!!)? It's big, pro-chemical marketing, vs. small, no-chemical marketing. Both are trying to sell stuff to neatly divided groups of consumers. That is all.
