    Also the camera angles too on the backdrop giving a low perspective to the subject.

    Hi, great update on your station..........You asked about the station signage, my only thought was that it might be a little bit tall. Not sure what the real thing is like from the platform to the sign. You mentioned CV settings for your locomotives, I turned all of mine down to about 40% of their original settings............sounded great but after a while the sounds got too much, now I can run everything, thats about 6 or 7 locos without getting fed up because now I have to listen to them. You mentioned your factory, yeah why not make it into the unloading area for a shopping centre, great idea..............Anyway happy christmas and best wishes Dave.

    Love the build. I like that you run the trains with realistic acceleration from a standstill. As for the station nameplates, yes, the type is too big. 25% smaller and a lighter font seems about right to me.

    Really enjoyable video. However, thought the station signage looked spot on to me. I honestly wish I had the patience, and the money, to build something on such a grand scale. But I am thinking of building a diorama involving 4472 Flying Scotsman and 70000 Brittania. All the best and have a happy Christmas and a great new year.

      Thanks for your kind comment. I think some modelers use other peoples layouts as their inspiration, which is great to see what is possible but I think it's best to look at what the real thing looks like and try and replicate that. With the best will in the world, most things aren't perfect out there, so why should a model be perfect...! Cheers, Dave

    Hi Dave thanks for sharing your update, looks really good. With reference to the shopping centre (I could see a multi storey carpark) is it worth perhaps having a lorry unloading area/bay next to a carpark on the ground floor with a taxi rank then have the shopping centre above, it which could then release some space along the back board (more shops lol). Great tips on painting out pick ups enjoyed this video, a Merry Christmas to you and all take care and please remember to stay safe..

    Great work. Painting out the visible pick-up and wires is one of the best easy jobs to do and enhances the loco to a model instead of a toy, along with the detailing and realistic CV setting. Loads of weathering next?

    • @GoodfordModelRailway
      @GoodfordModelRailway  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Weathering is definitely a massive job that’s high on the priority list however if truth be told, I’m quite scared of doing it. Need to try and pick up loads of scrap stock to practice on first!

    Great layout update everything looks great I do like your display cabinet it’s great I’ve got one in the house and if anyone comes around it’s the point where everyone looks to see if there is any new locomotives inside when they ask I say guess lol 😂

    Hi Dave great update mate, enjoyed it. The station is looking very good, I like what you've been doing. I think how you've built the Premier Inn is ingenious. The shopping center idea might well work, why not try rigging up a rough card template to see how it looks. Atb Andy

    Great layout love the more modern layouts just wondered where you sorce you materials from and vehicles etc?

    • @GoodfordModelRailway
      @GoodfordModelRailway  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Stuart, to be honest I source items from wherever I can find it. All UK model shops seem to sell online (some websites are a little antiquated though). Often source discontinued items from the major well known online auction site - I try and avoid this though due to the amount of chancers out there!

    Could I ask. Of all the stations I have been too in my few years of commuting. I have never seen signal lights on a platform. I spotted one on your layout and it threw me for a minute wondering what it was and then I saw the black signal lights. Too me it just didn't look right. Am I mislead by camera angle. And to your comment ref the signs. I think they are a tad too big but like you say that can be rectified. Superb layout by the way

    • @GoodfordModelRailway
      @GoodfordModelRailway  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is reasonably common to have signals on platforms towards the end, if you consider that probably less than half of the platform is on display and in theory it would continue way beyond the limits of the layout, the signal would be quite near the end of the platform. It has been a point of thought for a while and i have considered adding a gantry with the signal overhead, probably be one of those projects i'll do when the basic scenery is in place on the whole layout and i come back to bits and pieces.

  • @NewModelRailway
    @NewModelRailway 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I like it! Nice update. My initial thought was that, yes the station signs font was a little on the large size, but I guess you'd find plenty of variation if you look around the real world, so personal choice really. Quick question , are the ambient station announcements part of the layout or overdubbed on the video?

    • @GoodfordModelRailway
      @GoodfordModelRailway  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your feedback, I’ve added some smaller signs and think they’re slightly better. In answer to your question, everything you can hear is live from the layout, including the birds singing! There are some of the gaugemaster sound modules dotted around and all locos have sound fitted so some of the announcements are built in to the sound decoders on the locos to play randomly when the loco isn’t moving. 👍

    • @NewModelRailway
      @NewModelRailway 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GoodfordModelRailway Cool. Im thinking of using an arduino to control and play sounds triggered by sensors so as you more from one area of the layout to another one sound will fade away whilst another fades in . That's the plan anyway!

    • @GoodfordModelRailway
      @GoodfordModelRailway  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NewModelRailway sounds like a great plan, is it a big layout you’re working on?

    • @NewModelRailway
      @NewModelRailway 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GoodfordModelRailway It fits in the garage so medium ish. Big enough for a town scene, station, countryside and hopefully a viaduct and river.

    How about something like an IKEA. Just one big unit to fill the void instead of more building full of shops

    • @GoodfordModelRailway
      @GoodfordModelRailway  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not a bad idea at all. The reason i thought of a shopping centre is that it would allow the top level and the level below the station to "link" to each other without the need for extremely high retaining walls. I'll definitely consider the IKEA idea, thanks for sharing.

    • @koifish4929
      @koifish4929 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GoodfordModelRailway I can see you point with linking the shops. I just thought because of all the high street shops like la senza they usually found in shopping centers. If not an IKEA maybe a VUE cinema complex or something like that. Thought ir might be cluttered with too many shops. Anyway will look forward to see what you decide. Keep up the fab work.

    Those bachmann scenecraft relay boxes don't look right, they are too small. When I first seen them, I thought they were n guage, I use the will's ones, they are a bit on the expense side but I feel they are more to scale. Your station signs are a bit too high, I also bought the peco one's but didn't like them so made my own, but as for the layout, it's brilliant, not too cluttered. I also like the arches, well done
